When I go to Vegas, my trips typically last 5-7 days. I never check a bag. I can fit everything I need in a carry-on + lap top case.

Just wondering.....what do the rest of you do?

I travel from germany and normally stay 2-3 weeks in the states and a couple days in Vegas so i always have a big suitcase and a carry on.

Next trip will be 2 days in new york and 5 days Vegas. I am thinking about having only a carry on for this one week. Still not sure...

I check bags only. Since I only fly Southwest Airlines there is no charge and when I fly I am on vacation so I am in no rush.

I always take a carryon bag – no wheels, but it does have a shoulder strap. I go to Vegas to gamble in the casino, but there's no way I want to do it with my luggage. The bag holds everything I need for several days and certainly contributes to the prevention of over packing. Not having to stand in line to check luggage or wait to claim it are other pluses.

I have a Delta/Amex Platinum Card, so I can check bags for free, but that has nothing to do with it. Fortunately, I also get preferred boarding, so stashing the bag is never an issue.

I always check my bag. To me with the cramped boarding of SWA its easier to check than to lug on and deal with dragging off the plane. I am sure I typically could stuff everything into a carry on, but I have no desire to go that route.

My visits are 2-4 days. Though it's of carry on size, I always check my bag. I'm not lazy, I just like the freedom of movement around the airport absent the bag. My experience in Las Vegas with Southwest is that by the time I stroll from the gate to baggage (not using the tram), the bags arrive shortly after I do.

    I always check my bag.

Even for just a three day trip I could never fit everything I need into just a carry on.

What do you guys why don't check a bag do for like toiletries and stuff that can't be taken past security?

I tend to stay 10-12 dayson average but I only do carry on. I like having everything of mine near me especially traveling solo, it's a protective measure. I also am usually in a rush on vacation to vegas so I like to get out of the airport quickly and smoothly. The same with the ease of movement taking transportation, checking and staying in the hotel. I also hotel hop to gain a number of experiences and because it feels like several mini trips, so that requires packing light for ease of movement. I do laundry since I have some time on my trip or I buy new clothes, which is always delightful, and buy a bigger carry on. I pack so light I could walk up and down vegas for my entire trip with all my luggage with no problems. I bring quite a bit of clothes and shoes actually. I roll my clothes instead of fold them and wear my heavier materials of clothing or shoes to travel such as sneakers, jackets, scarfs, sweaters, jeans. my light material tops, leggings and dresses and lightweight flip flops and heels take up a lot less space.

    Check bags.

I like to dress to impress so a carry-on wouldn't work. The only way I could get away with carry-on only is with a shorter trip.

I mean, I wear different clothes everyday so....

I dunno how people get away with no checked bag on a week long trip.
    Washing machine there?

I stopped checking a bag a long time ago, it's a pain in the ass. I use to bring a small wheeled carryon until this last trip when I brought just a regular backpack. It is soo much nicer not having to wheel a stupid suitcase around, backpacks FTW.

I wish I could do that.

Checked bags are always a pain the ass. It's the single most stressful thing involved with flying besides going through security.

Necessary evil for me tho'. Much like driving through the crap traffic of the DC area.

They sure do look handy... I just think they look stupid on anyone who doesn't have finals next week. That's my thing, perhaps I just need to get over it.

search online and on flyertalk forum. there the biggest frequent fliers and they have lots of tips how to pack everything in carryons. all those frequent fliers say never to check a bag unless you dont have a choice. i dont fly too much only 3-5 times a year but i still like using tips from the pros. :peace:

I also note that I've seen folks wearing backpacks from brands like Tumi around financial districts and they damn sure don't care what a fat guy in Nevada thinks they look like, cause they're likely cashin' a bigger weekly check than I... the times they are changin'

I ALWAYS check my bag. I have no desire to lug my bag through the airport. I do not have a problem waiting to retrieve my bag at the carousel. I do not worry about my bag being lost because I do not put anything in it that I cannot easily replace.

    It is all about priorities.
