It should be really interesting to see the top 25 teams coming out in a few hours.

As big of a Buckeye fan as I am, they don't deserve to jump into the #3 slot that will be vacated by Clemson's loss last night (#3 should go to the Noles after they handily beat the Tigers). As a matter of fact, I'm surprised the Buckeye's have hung onto #4 they way they've played their last 3 games.

Edited to add: Man, I really need to double check my spelling before I post so early in the morning.

 

Totally agree about Florida St, replacing Clemson which should be out of the top 10. I also hope after the loss to Ole Miss that Texas A&M is out of the top 25.

I wouldn't completely know your Buckeyes. They did get it done two and three weeks ago against ranked teams.

 

But the buckeyes havn't been doing too well against the spread !

 

They never seem to, tom, especially when they get into league play. JMO, but it seems they get over ranked at the beginning of the season, playing nobodys and usually blowing them out. Then when the "tough" games start the books give them too big of a spread based on their blowouts.

Look out for Penn St. next Sat. I'll be at Mirage book watching that one.

Once again, I'm totally surprised they held on to #4 in the current rankings. Guess being undefeated (as well as the nations longest winning streak) means something. This weeks upsets didn't hurt either.

I would not be to hard on your team. Winning today is really hard. For Ohio state to be undefeated for 2 years so far is a significant accomplishment. That's really hard to do. A win is a win and some times they are ugly.

 

I agree that OSU doesn't "feel" like a #4 team. But then, who does? Mizzou has had a few big wins lately...but against very injury-depleted teams. And Baylor, while looking very impressive, hasn't played anyone. And does anyone (outside of South Florida) believe Miami is a top 5 team?

I'd say Mizzou probably deserves the spot for beating two pretty good teams on consecutive weeks. But I don't think any of these teams are in the same league as 'Bama, Oregon or FSU.

It'll be fun to see how it all shakes out.

 

My only answer, Jim, is the Buckeyes always seem to have a bullseye on their backs and everybody they play wants to upset them. Many hate Ohio State and the rest hate Urban Meyer....LOL

You're right though. I only saw bits 'n pieces of the MN-NW game yesterday. NW didn't look anything like the team that played the Buckeyes.

 

Northwestern was playing a 3rd string QB.

 

Not true, at all. At the beginning of the season, Northwestern had two "first string" QB's ... Kain Colter (a running QB) and Trevor Siemian (a passing QB), and they would play equally, making it difficult for the opposition. All of the other 3rd and 4th string QB's on the team are all freshmen & sophomores.

Kain Colter emerged as the main QB after the first 3 games, but Trevor Siemian became the leader when the passing game was needed more to offset the other teams defenses. However, Kain Colter was injured against Wisconsin, and Trevor Siemian took over full time. He was the only QB for Northwestern with any stats on Saturday.

 

It's no secret that Ohio State will need a little help to get into the NC game. But there is still a long way to go. A win is a win, especially in conference play. The list of BCS champions that were solid but unspectacular in the regular season is not a short one. 1998 Tennessee, 2000 Oklahoma, 2002 Ohio State, 2003 LSU, 2006 Florida, 2007 LSU, and 2010 Auburn are all NCs that had regular season struggles against far inferior teams.

Florida State was very impressive last night.

Northwestern sure looks like they can't bounce back from that loss a couple weeks ago. That was the biggest or second biggest game in the history of their program, they pitched a (nearly) perfect game and it just wasn't enough. Hopefully they will salvage what was a once-promising season.

Here's to a good rest of the season, except for Michigan.

I would put Simian as #2 far behind Colter but he is not a #3 qb. Mark being out of the game hurts too. NW took a beating in the previous two games against the two best Big Ten teams. Hope they are still down in two weeks against my Huskers!

 

Two first string Quarterbacks ? What no center or not left tackle. Sounds like they just didn't have a decent QB and that's why the backup gets on the field. Northwestern was overachieving and reality finally showed up.

 

Obviously, you did not see the first 3 games, and how well that "dual QB" system worked. However, Kain Colter did come out on top, based on his mobility and running success, and Trevor Siemian eventually became #2, and used mostly in passing situations. Siemian "gets on the field" on Saturday, because Kain Colter was injured from the previous game ... and you seem to be commenting on something you are not even aware of.

Incorrect. Kolter and Siemian are both very good, but they have different skill sets. When Siemian is at QB, Kolter plays WR.

Northwestern was very beat up Saturday with Kolter out and their best RB out as well (Venric Mark). Couple that with playing the two best teams in the Big 10 the previous two weeks and an 11 a.m. kickoff and you have a recipe for an upset.

They are a good team. I hope they rebound.

 

Ding ding ding ding! Teams that are ranked low at the beginning of the year are at a disadvantage before anybody has even played a game.

 

Obviously you haven't noticed all the games they have lost in row. Two "starting quarterbacks" doesn't work, never has and never will. Don't reference Tim Tebow either he came in for goal line packages as a freshman and was not classified as a starter. Two "starting quarterbacks" would require two on the field at the same time. I'm aware that your salty because your team is tanking.
