Not that I would let him play anything, I'm thinking about taking our 15 yr old son with us up to the casino in OK next month. We're just going up for a few hours, but since we want to go with my parents there is nobody to stay at home wiht him for the day. My son is already a tad over 6 ft and about 240lbs so he definitely could pass for 18.

I know that in Vegas minors cannot even stand in the vacinity of the machines - how are they at these other casinos? Will they tell him to move if he is standing near one of us playing or on the slot floor?

I could just sit him down at the buffet and say "see ya in 5 hours" but he wouldn't like sitting there by himself. I'd never do that anyway. lol

I was at a table at Aria last month and the dealer stopped the whole game because a players son was watching from 15ft away on the walkway.
They made him LEAVE the casino floor, he looked 21+ as well.

I think smaller casinos would be even more stringent.
however, I certainly played at casinos before I was 21.
    Take a shot...

    Others would know better.

no, after a couple of hours somebody will say something. Give him a cell phone and $50 and take to adventuredome or something. or do stuff with him during the day and gamble at night. 90% of my winnings come from 3-6am

Not much to do at Windstar in OK but play slots. We're only going from like 10am to 4-5pm. Maybe I should just have him stay with a friend for the day.

At age 15 our son would spend the day at home by himself. We had phone numbers posted on the fridge for nearby friends and trusted neighbors in case of emergency.

At the local casinos in AZ they card you at the door if you look under 40, I always get carded before I even get into the casino... not sure what Windstar is like but it seems like the smaller casinos check IDs more than in Vegas...

    think about it.

if he looks young and of course 18 is young. standing next to you watching makes him look like he does not belong.

It would be smarter for him to just plop down and start playing. That would attract much less attention as it would seem like he is assuming he belongs.

If i were security chances are i would card the guy standing but not the one playing.

of course if he is busted you will feel stupid sitting right there letting a 15 year old gamble but thats why they call it gambling!!

I don't like the idea of taking a kid to Vegas but, our teenage son really wanted to go to Vegas with us for a short trip so he could see The Blue Man Group.

Being a teen he loves to spend time playing online Xbox or PC games with his friends or texting or chatting on his cell phone, thus that's exactly what he wanted to do in Vegas. He saw the show, had some nice meals but pretty much wanted to stay in the room and do "his thing", while we did ours. He even took a book with him to read. We were a text message away and met up with him often for meal times or some group fun.

Hanging out on the outskirts of the casino would NOT have been any fun for him.

Edit: I just reread the OP and missed the OK casino, I was thinking Vegas... I'd probably go for the stay home (or stay with a friend) as well. At 15 that shouldn't be a problem for most kids.

LOL I like your response...not sure if I would take the chance, he would probably get upset if we got into "trouble". My son, if left alone all day in the house would probably end up trying to cook himself something and burn the house down. Think friend might be a beter idea.

Smaller casinos are much much more stringent about these age rules. He will be carded everywhere and can only walk through while with you. They are very Gestapo about this in other states. Vegas is by far the most lax of anywhere so if he has trouble there you have no chance in another state.

Trust me when I say that I am the authority figure on all things Winstar, especially in regards to this question. To confirm, you're talking about the casino about an hour north of Fort Worth just across the Texas/Oklahoma border in Thackerville?

If so, your son will have absolutely zero issues, especially if he is as tall and "18 looking" as you say he is. I'm 23 and have been going to this casino almost weekly since I was 16 and have NEVER been asked even once for my ID. I look young too. I'm about 5-8, 150lbs, and still look like a high schooler. So your son should have zero issues.

For anecdotal evidence to support my claim, when I was 17, a pit boss jokingly asked me "are you even old enough to play" while I was playing blackjack with a friend and I panicked and conceded that I was only 17 (18 minimum at Winstar). He literally leaned towards me and said "I didn't hear that." And he let me keep playing. Later in that session, the dealer told me that this casino was basically built on underage money and that they don't care.

In that time span, I've also had numerous friends that were under 18 stand and watch me play from behind my chair and they never even got asked for their ID.

Trust me when I say this particular Indian reservation does not care at all. However, I would take the advice of the posters above and try to "fit in" as best as possible. I hope this helps.

I taught my son to cook when he was 10. I refuse to make lunch for him now though always make supper so that he can be self sufficient when he is older. It is probably time you teach him to be on his own, at 15 he shouldn't have a babysitter. My son would think i was crazy if i were to make that suggestion and he is 14, 6ft something and 230.

Ok this was not my intention of starting a thread about how I should teach my kid how to be self sufficient...just asking your experiences at the smaller casinos with kids. And for those of you who answered my question, thank you I appreciate it.

And yes, he's the largest nose tackle our freshman football group has at the moment (out of 130 boys) and one damn good one too!

Let him stay at home or go to his friend's place. When I was 20, I was escorted out of the casino floor after standing next to my grandmother while she was playing slots. The security folks at Harrahs in AC made a big deal out of it that it ticks me off till this day.

Exactly what I was thinking, that just baffles me! Wait... isn't this the kid who wasn't allowed to buy GTAV?

Times have changed. All 3 of my kids gambled in Vegas casinos when they were underage and nobody complained about it or carded them but that was decades ago. And none of them became problem gamblers. :peace:

Last summer my 18 year old grandson accompanied me from a restaurant in a Vegas casino over to the players club booth. Right away a security guard came up and said he would have to leave and explained the consequences if he didn't immediately leave. I understand that a parent can now face some stiff penalties for allowing a minor child to loiter or gamble in a NV casino.

I think you could get away at the slot machines, not the tables. I remember when I was walking and stopped to watch the craps table. The pit boss id my friends and me. I didn't even buy in or play.
