MSS Hotel Questions - First Time Staying

I'll be staying at MSS for the first time soon. I've stayed at the Cal a few times and love the two properties. I have some questions about MSS rooms that I'd love some input on. Please answer those that you have info on and skip the ones you don't. Thanks

1) What kind of room should we ask for to minimize noise? I've read about train/freeway noise possibly being an issue.

2) I know free wifi isn't available but I've read it might be possible to pick up free wifi from FSE? Which room should we request for that? A south facing room I'm guessing?

3) If you've stayed at the Cal you know the safes there (at least the ones I've had in my rooms) are quite small. I was wondering if the safes at MSS are larger. I was hoping to bring a laptop/iPad and would like to store it in the safe when they aren't in use. Also, are they digital or do they also have keys like at the Cal?

4) I read on the MSS website that the wifi is good for only one device. Does that mean only one device can be connected at all or can I use a laptop, then disconnect it from the wifi and connect my smartphone or iPad?

5) Do all rooms come with refrigerators or will I possibly have to make a request for one?

6) I know the check in time for MSS is 3:00PM. Since I will be arriving early on a Friday morning do you think there will be any problem checking in as early as 9 or 10am? I'd assume not since it will be after a Thursday night but I'd hate to go there and not be able to check in when we could have been doing other things.

7) We have a 2-Queen non-smoking room booked as the 1-Kings were sold out. What are our odds of being able to get a 1-King non-smoking room?

8) How bad is the sun in the morning at MSS? I've heard complaints about the shutters not blocking out the sun very well.

Re: The safes ~ they are small safes in the closets, would not hold a laptop. They use keys.

Re: Refrigrators ~ There have been refrigerators in every room we have stayed in. I've heard all rooms have fridges, but call MSS to make sure.

Re: Early check-in ~ We always arrive very early also, usually 8-8:30 am. on a Wednesday. Somethimes we get a room right away, sometimes not. All we do in that case is leave our luggage at the Bell Desk; in fact, this gets us into the casino quicker!

The lack of light blocking drapes is my biggest issue with MSS rooms.

 

The only rooms I have had faced either the Plaza or the freeway. I always request the Plaza-facing room. There is train noise, but basically once the engine passes you can barely hear the rest of the train. The freeway noise is pretty loud, as you would expect.

I can't speak to the free wi-fi. I just pay for the in room service ($9.95/day).

All rooms have refrigerators, but be aware that whatever you put in there may freeze. They are almost always VERY cold.

As for the shutters, they certainly won't black out the room, for sure. If you flip the shutters up when you close them it seems to block out a little more than if you flip them down.

Have you tried or do you know if you can connect more than one device to the in-room wifi, even if they aren't simultaneously connected?

 

I stayed at MSS for the first time in August since I had two comp'd rooms and I was pleasantly surprised. I asked for a room opposite the train tracks and they did that (thanks to many posts on here that suggested that). I didn't hear a single train.

The rooms are just fine -- but I do agree, I wish there were black-out shades on the windows -- the shutters just don't cut it. But I think this is standard at the Cal and Fremont also (not sure).

Have a great time! The rooms are clean and you shouldn't stay in the room that much anyways.
