Im not sure if its the right section or not but thats pretty big news

The result is that free Wi-Fi will be available in every lower level public space, indoor and out, from pools to lobbies to night clubs, at all of MGM’s nine Las Vegas properties: Bellagio, MGM Grand, Aria, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, Luxor and Excalibur. You can sit with your toes in the sand at Mandalay’s “beach” or on the outdoor patio at Olives sipping cocktails and overlooking the Bellagio’s fountain show, all while clicking away. It even includes satellites attached to these such as theHotel at Mandalay Bay and the Crystals shopping center attached to Aria

Makes the resort fee a little more superfluous.

I would still like to have it in my hotel room, this seems that its just the "lower public areas" so put my resort fee to good use and allow me to connect to WIFI in my room instead of having "wired internet". ;)

I have been involved in configuring wi-fi networks for large music festivals before (150,000 + people) and I can tell you that this will be a gigantic investment cost! However, it will probably mainly be a tax write off (although a good one!).

Do we know when it will be in place?

    From the article:

"More than half the properties have been finished and are online while the rest will be rolled out in the next few days."

LOL! I swear I read it three times looking for a date! I did my usual trick of skim reading and looking for a number though.

    wireless router

If you really need wireless, Bring your own wireless router! set up your security before.

I personally prefer the wired internet for my laptop, but also have a phone and tablet that we travel with so I'm always prepared. (thank gosh they don't weigh carry on cases)

As a traveler coming from the UK stopping at NYNY in November, this is awesome news. I love using apps like foursquare and snapchat etc to gloat to those at home where I am and now I can at mgm properties. Being from UK we don't have the iron of using a cellular service. Unless I want an epic phone bill!

I also find it strange how most of the comments here are not that positive. Your getting something you weren't getting before! Resort fees were here before free WiFi.

first off the reason they do this is to get you out of the room and spend money.

venetian has free interneet in there food court for years but charges in the room.

this is comon practice for most hotels across the country.hilton in san francisco the lobby is packed becuase of the free internet but if you want to use it in your room u must pay.

Of course there is. It's part of your resort fee and if your room is comped its comped along with your resort fee.

Heading to the Mirage in early November. Is there WiFi in the rooms or is it a wired connection? Would rather not have to bring a router on the trip.

You have a choice of both. Wired or internet. I was at the Mirage last month and the speed and coveage was fine, but not nearly as fast as when I was at the Bellagio which was broadband fast (>5mbps). In the hotels, you have free internet in the room for multiple devices. Outside (such as pool, grounds, casino), you still have wifi, but under a different SSID. You will be asked if you are an hotel guest or just a visitor. If a guest, you need to enter you room number and offered choice of basic (256 Kbps i think) or premium ($extra for 1024kbps I think). Public wifi is free, but the slowest speed (128kbps I think)

I just got back from MGM and the spa suite we had was in the south tower on the western 27th floor, and next to the big suite at the end of the hall. The free internet at a so-called 512 kbps was poor, and I was only getting 72 kbps and not happy. Maybe the room location had something to do with it?:confused2:

They had an option for 'faster internet' at 1.2 Mbps for 14.95 per 24 hours, all while charging $28 per day in resort fees for free internet and whatnot. There was an ethernet connection in the room but I don't normally travel with a cable and I wished I had. There was one for sale in the room and it was $32 for a package including a bunch of assorted connectors.

We went down to the concierge so my DH could relay my thoughts (he is not technical, just vocal and so much better at that stuff) and while I was only able to get in one two-hour session without dropping the connection, or timing out on page loads, it was on the 3rd and penultimate day.

Normally this would be unbearable to me but it was Vegas and my prepaid 3G phone worked just fine for email and web which was great because they let me checkout via email, so no waiting in line. United also sent me QR code boarding passes, so there was no waiting at the "print your boarding passes" line at MGM.

The sweet ending? Resort fee missing ($84) from folio/bill. The only 'win' we had, but we did have fun while we were there!

Getting the QR code is good.

But, even without that, not sure why anybody still prints boarding passes at hotels, etc.

If you need to check bags at the airport, you can print them there.
If you do not check bags, Vegas airport has multi airline checkin terminals all over the place.

I can not remember printing an advance boarding pass in years.
