Coming to vegas in 2 weeks with my hubby and son, my son wants to play the roulette wheel what is the lowest stake he will be able to palce. he doesnt want to look a total fool !!!!! any advise please we are stopping in the Mirage
There should be a sign on the table that lists the table minimum. Find a table with a $5 or $10 minimum and that's your bet. Place it on the red, black or a number and say "Money plays". That's the fastest roulette bet I know.
At most of the casinos on The Strip the minimum bet is going to be $10. The $5 tables do exist, but they can be rare at times, especially at night and on the weekends. As Sonya said, there will be a sign on the table saying what the minimum is. Note that the minimum is the minimum amount that can be bet. If your son sits at a $10 table he can buy chips for as little as $1 denomination, however his bets must still meet the table minimum: if he wants to bet on BLACK and has $1 roulette chips he must bet at least 10 chips (@$1 each) to meet the table minimum. If he buys $5 chips he would have to bet 2 chips (@$5 each) to meet the table minimum. And the table minimums are inside OR outside, but not combined. So as an example if he has $1 chips he can bet 10 chips inside as the minimum if the table minimum is $10, or he can bet 10 chips on BLACK to meet the minimum... but he can't bet $5 on black and then $5 on #20 - even though that is $10 being bet it has to be $10 inside to meet the table minimum or $10 outside to meet the minimum (note that he could put $10 on #20 and $10 on black... that would meet the $10 minimum requirement on the inside and $10 to meet the outside). If he really is unsure most of the casinos offer roulette lessons where he can go and learn how to play and how to bet, how to buy in and how to cash out, etc. Just check with the hotel when you get there, they are probably held sometime in the morning. As an alternative there is also electronic blackjack. At Mirage they have video roulette where he can play for as little as 25 cents a chip and the wheel and betting terminal is an electronic screen. They also have a game called Organic Roulette which is near the back of the casino and that has 50 cent chips minimum. On Organic Roulette bets are placed on an electronic terminal but there is a real wheel (spun electronically) in the middle of the terminals. Some people love these things because they play fast, some people hate them because they play fast - you get a spin about every 30 seconds.
If it's his first time, try one of the automated tables for a while. Mirage has one with $5 min I think. It's an actual wheel, but you place your bet on a computer screen. It can get him acclimated to the feel and pace and he can spread it out even $.50 on a single number as long as you play the min of $5 on the spin. I started this way and if you spread your bets around you can make $100-200 last for a couple hours.
