    Hey,

i am currently contemplating doing when I have the time for a short vegas (3-5 nights) trip. Probably it will be mid-December.

Since I do not have any gambling history with any of the major US programs (I am an European who moved to the US a couple of month ago), i checked out the different companies and feel like MGM / MLife is the right fit for me.

    Now the question:
Will there be "new customer offers" right after I sign up? And if yes, are they worth checking out?

Just asking, if I should register now or just a couple of days before I plan to book (or even wait till I am in Vegas)?

    Best regards,
    swuulumm

Short answer: any offer you get without any previous play is basically worthless.

Yes, they will have generic offers just for signing up for MLife, but it's just going to be a small percentage off the full price of the room. You can often find a better deal on Expedia or Travelocity.

Though from my experience, it's better to skip the Expedia offers and just buy direct through the hotel. I used to book Expedia and never got direct offers from the hotel, even after joining Mlife or Total Rewards. Once I started booking directly though the hotels, I got much better offers

This is also true because with Expedia you have to pay upfront. There's no chance for the Casino to comp any part of your stay afterwards based on your play if you've already paid for the room.

Other angle where I have had success and they just announced a 48 hour sale through Thursday is Southwest Airlines. 3 times I have used their vacation section to get flight and hotel cheaper than doing each part individually.

Did a quick look, using my definition of mid December and if coming out of Detroit to Las Vegas the 12th to the 18th of December is $306 roundtrip taking non stop there and 1 stop back at the cheapest rates.

:thumbsup:if you are truly gambling then book directly its the only way the can comp off your rooms at the end of the stay if your play warrents it

You should sign up when you are in Las Vegas.

Signing up now isn't going to get you anything in the way of comps or offers and when you get to Las Vegas you still have to go through pretty much the whole signup process (they'll still need to swipe you ID, set up PIN, print out cards, etc) so you won't save any time when you get there.

However, most of the casinos have some kind of promotion for signing up... might be some free slot, some little gift (coffee mug, shirt, key chain, etc) or some kind of bigger promotion (earn so many points in a certain period and get a bigger gift). But you only get these sign up promotions if you do it there in person, if you sign up online and then go to pick up your card you are no longer considered a new signup.
