We are looking at a trip in January to use a companion fare ticket we have from Delta, more than likely at MB/HOTEL.

Any weekends better than others? Have been for NYE numerous times so we are looking for a more laid back time with smaller crowds.

How is MLK weekend? I know the weather isn't warm but compared to Minnesota it will be a welcome change.

    Thanks

January can be a bit busier than other months (like February). Find out which weekend is the CES convention and make sure you avoid that one. I believe that is still the biggest convention of the year in Vegas. otherwise, the football playoffs bring in more people than usual, but as long as you avoid CES you are probably good

I would pull up the hotel calendar for the MONTH and that will help direct you. Also, based on my experience with companion fares, some weekends will be rougher than others to use that certificate. Hit the online sites mentioned and a calendar to get the best answers.

January rates are very high when CES and AVN are in town. They used to be held at the same time but now they are a week a part from each other. Just check out when they show up and plan around it. When these two events pop up even the Quad would run you 4X to 6X from what you would normally pay.

I think this used to be the case when AVN was on the Strip, but since they moved it to Hard Rock, it really has little impact on the number of persons on the Strip or downtown. I went to AVN and ANE the past two Januarys and there was no noticeable increase in crowds, except at Hard Rock, which was a mad house (the cab line was half an hour long on a weekday afternoon!). I had never gone to that event until two years ago and one of the exhibitors across from my client's booth told us that the crowds were a small fraction of what they used to be. So the OP is probably clear of those crowds if staying at MB

As an aside, does the Rumor hotel sell rooms to the public? Two years ago, we went to a party there hosted by one of the other ANE exhibitors and someone mentioned to me that the entire hotel was leased out. Wasn't sure if it is more of an event space with rooms or a hotel open to the general public

How was the weather during New Year's Eve when you were there? I have always been in Las Vegas in over 100 degree heat so it will be different for me!

I will be in Las Vegas MLK weekend. There is the Antique Firearms show at the Riviera that starts on Friday and ends on Sunday, but I don't know how popular that is. Is this weekend considered a "holiday weekend" where many buffets charge higher holiday prices? I have a few MyVegas rewards that I am planning to use this weekend but I'm not sure if it would be considered a blackout weekend.

if your talking about avn week then its leased out to a movie studio and some actors that throws parties there but there b s parties ,not like orgies or stuff like that just booze and hang with the starlights that they pay to be there otherwise its a normal hotel after avn is over or before

you can get a room thru there website .its kinda a bullshit ploy to get people to pay extra just to hang with the stars that they book.
ps there not part of avn officaily they just piggy backing off it happing.

if you need a room might well just book at the hardrock even though theve basicaly double the weekend rate since the convention moved there 3 years ago or stay at one of the motels across the strett for basicaly nothing

Here's a GREAT deal at MB

    https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?host=promo&pid=MBH&show=rates&code=P3RC100E&kbid=1162904&sub=YDYFG!W!P3RC100E!US

    or

    THEhotel

    https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?host=promo&pid=276&show=rates&code=P3RC100E&kbid=1162904&sub=YDYFG!W!P3RC100E!US

$100 resort credit! Looks like some reasonable dates. Immediately after New Years ($68-96 a night) and on 10th-12th only $80 a night.

I would make sure THEhotel isn't under heavy construction.. I know it's about to be transformed into the Delano.

Ha! This thread made me realize my next trip coincides directly with the AVN weekend.
