Christmastime in vegas...

My next trip to Vegas will be two weeks before Christmas! And, right during the NFR!! So, I have two questions - which casinos will I find the best Christmas decorations? I'm figuring Bellagio and Wynn - but, do any others stand out? The other question - how busy and what's the crowd like during the NFR? I'm thinking a lot of loud and drunk cowboys????

Veneition does a good Christmas thing I am told. Its been what feels like a hundred years but over 20 since I have been out there between thanksgiving and Christmas.

 

Palazzo also has some elaborate decorations that time of year. Plus they usually do the skating rink outside

Christmas in Las Vegas is my favorite time of the year to visit!

 

The atrium at Sam's Town is all decorated to the hilt with animated bears, trees, fake snow, etc. It's pretty cute.

 

If you have a car, the speedway has a drive through light display, Ethel M cactus garden has a walk through display, as does Springs Preserve and Opportunity Village.

 

Good suggestions.......where are all those places mentioned- the Ethel Cactus Garden and the Opportunity Village?

I will go to Wynn, Bellagio, Palazzo, Venetian, and Sam's Town - I'm a sucker for lights and decorations!

But no one has any comments about the crowd level/type from NFR???

 

I have posted this before, but here goes. For my money, rodeo week is the best week of the year in Las Vegas. The crowds during the NFR are some of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Places are busy, especially Orleans, South Point, and Mandalay Bay. You can make easy money at low stakes poker, although some of those cowboys can play. There are big western-related marketplaces at MB and the Convention Center. The one at Mandalay includes appearances by cowboy celebrities, a truck giveaway, and small scale arena events like sheep riding for little kids.

The rodeo itself is fun to attend if you go in for such things. Tickets that other people have exchanged are available at a booth in the hallway at the Convention Center. Remember that this is a fully staged rodeo, not just bull riding. For bull riding close-up seating is crucial, but the other rodeo events are less subtle and use a lot more of the arena, so most seats in the lower section and some upstairs are okay. You can also buy and sell tickets informally outside the entrance to the Thomas & Mack Arena at UNLV.

Everything clears out on the last Sunday of the rodeo. Many shows and some restaurants close until after Christmas, hotel prices plummet, and Vegas is as dead as it ever gets.

 

I saw Sam's Town show last year. That was a great cheesy show!
