I received a three night comp at the Golden Gate. I don't remember this hotel/casino...but last year was my first trip to Vegas, so I was flying in and out of those downtown casinos!!! lol Can anyone give me the pros and cons of staying there? THANKS!
The rooms have been renovated but are still tiny. Here are some pix of the my room when I double booked it back in 2011. These are after the renovations. If you do book it, make sure to ask for a room away from Fremont St or the noise can be unbelievable. I don't have any negatives about the place in general, just what I mentioned. The casino is friendly.
I love the place It's the oldest casino downtown. Walking the hallways, I swear I keep hearing "Redrum, Redrum!". It's has tiny rooms, unless you upgrade to the suite. As reported, the have been renovated, but the bathrooms are still tiny and old. It's one of my first choices when I go alone. If going with the wife, we stay at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. The DuPar's diner is fabulous, the casino is loud, even louder in the evening when the dancer/dealers start. I have an app on my phone, "sound soother" which I use whenever I travel. In comes in handy @ the GG. I was just there, had an interior room on the Fremont side, had no problem sleeping (but thats me). If you go and are there in the evening, be sure to say hi to Valeria (bartender and sometime dancer at outside bar). She's a sweetheart. In pic, signs at far left and middle are gone for new video board, very sad development.
Oh, my....the bathroom does look in need of a MAJOR overhaul. I don't especially mind tiny, but..... Thanks for the info! Not sure what to do....
But, WAIT - is that a KEURIG I see? haha That helps a lot! I will show the photos to my sister-in-law. I think I would be fine there....not so sure about her, though. What makes me a little nervous is that whenever a book a room I am told they are not able to promise me two beds. I truly would rather not sleep with my sister in law and I am pretty sure she would prefer not to sleep with me. Why can't anyone promise me a room with two beds? This has happened at the Fremont, NYNY and, now, the Golden Gate??
I didn't actually stay in the room and naive me, I saw all the stuff on the counter and started gathering it up to take back to MSS. Then I saw the sign for pricing. I can't tell you if there was a charge for the coffee, but there was for all the snacks and water.
i am taking advantage of this offer as well and I originally booked a king bed, then my brother-in-law is coming so I called to see about getting two queens and they were very unsure but said, that I could have two beds (Full size) but not queens. If I remember right I was on the phone for about 10 minutes while she made sure they could do it. I'll post back after the trip to update what happens. I presume whatever they give us assuming two beds we will be happy.
I'm almost positive they charge $1.50 for the coffee, so definitely bring your own. Just a note on the bathrooms...Joe's picture is accurate. They are not in the best of shape and they are small. Not much, if any, counter space for cosmetics etc. I've stayed a few times but last time, the shower was so grungy that my son refused to step into it. (We had a room with just a shower - no tub). Some rooms are better than others. If you want two beds, your room will be directly overlooking Fremont Street and that can be very loud at night. All the 2 bed rooms are on Fremont, one bed rooms are on the other side of the hall or at the back (at least that's what they told me in April). In all honesty, I would not recommend staying there if you have other choices. The rooms are fine if you're a single or a couple who is rarely in the room. The historical value of staying there makes it fun but I just think 2 women would be happier with a washroom that has more space and less mold. There isn't really good space to do your hair in the morning without getting in each others way. The only mirror is in the tiny bathroom so you'll have no other choice but to take turns. That said, if it's free to you and your adventurous, (and willing to wear flip flops while showering), it may work out for you. I'd stay again if it's the only offer I had but I'd be sure to ask for a different room if I got a shower like last time. If you do decide to stay elsewhere, keep in mind that you can always book the room and have a look, so you'll know what to expect for the next time.
I can confirm what you've already heard. I am comped there whenever I want --- and it is definitely NOT a place to take a woman....unless you are hoping she leaves you in the near future. I stayed in a regular room in May, and the shower was so bad I would not use it. Keep in mind I'm a 32 y/o single male -- so my standards are pretty low to begin with!!! Did stay in one of the new suites in May as well --- it was super clean and nice, but still super small. You get what you pay for at the GG!!!
larger rooms, larger bathrooms they do have larger, non-suite rooms on the end near (and one room would be RIGHT next to the elevator) that have much larger bathrooms, including counter space that women would enjoy. They look like they were built in the 70's complete with avocado green formica (at least the one I stayed in). However, I don't know if they come with two beds.
If you got a 3 night comp just swinging through GG, then you can get comps at the other DT casinos too (except Golden Nugget). I would just book a room at the casino of your choice and then look for them to comp it at the end of the stay.
I do have a comp at the Fremont, so we are combining these two for 6 free nights. I have never tried to comp after a stay, but I am planning on charging meals to my room, etc and hoping they will comp at least part of it. This is all new to me! I am a little bit leary of this hotel, so I am hoping I may receive another offer before December or just buck up and pay for the extra days at the Fremont. We are coming in very late on Saturday, so paying $51 at the Fremont for the use of the room for about 6 hours or less seems crazy. We know we are going to want to head out and explore no matter what time we get DT. GC will comp that Saturday night, Fremont will not.
I had a comped suite at Golden Gate, room #33, Sept 18th through 21st. It had a walk in tile shower, the room was nice, clean, and new. Contact a host and see if they will upgrade you to a suite. You will definitely like it. The casino is alot of fun and the staff was awesome! its worth a shot!
