I am sorry if this question is asked already but for those who have visited vegas already. I will be staying for five days and wanted to know is it worth it to get a monorail pass for the five days to move around the strip? When I mean worth it, I mean is it cheaper than paying for a cab. Thanks

It mainly depends where you are staying. If you are not staying at a hotel with a station, most likely it won't be worth it. It only services hotels on the east side of the strip from MGM to Harrah's. Even then, the stations are poorly located at the back of the properties, making them quite inconvenient. The monorail was a great idea that someone royally screwed up.

I disagree. If you like to move around a lot and are staying on that side of the strip its very convenient.

To me it depends greatly on what "moving around a lot" means. I am visiting 8-10+ casinos a day easily when I am in Vegas. I consider this moving around a lot. However doing this via the monorail is impossible.

I like going from casino to casino just in a row. I'm not one to go from MGM Grand to Harrahs for example without first stopping at PH, Paris, Ballys, ect...

I would never say don't get the pass. If it is just you, it wouldn't be a terrible deal. Total cost is probably ~2 taxi rides. Obviously goes up if you are talking about 2+ people. I generally avoid it just because all I do is wander from casino to casino. I may have a place in mind I want to eat dinner, but I would know this well ahead of time and can slowly make my way there. If you are one that will be sitting at the pool until 11am, then want lunch 5 casinos away, and then dinner all they way back at your hotel followed by a show 8 casinos away, then the monorail may make a lot of sense if it hits the casinos you are going to. I have NEVER had such a day though and never will. :)

Our problem is the opposite of sitting by the pool and then needing to be several casinos away quickly. With us its usually we've wandered from casino to casino for a long time and now we are tired and don't want to walk all they way back! Another thing is that it depends on the time of year and where you are staying. We used to stay at MGM and since it was not only south of everything else, it is also the southernmost monorail stop. This was very handy. This is also very handy during the really hot summer months when a long walk out in the open is not as fun.

I will be staying at the MGM Signature. I would like to visit the malls, the Venetian, Madam Tussaud and would like to see the different hotels.

Well, it will get you as close as Harrah's, which is next door to Venetian.

Here is a map that shows where all of the properties are.

I would just spend the extra on a taxi. I just can't see paying to use the monorail and it only gets you part of the way there.

We prefer to buy a 3-day bus pass and be able to hop on/off as much as we want. Too far to walk to the monorail station in some instances.

If you decide to purchase a monorail pass check out special offer coupons in the coupon books found in the taxi cabs, hotel lobbies and other places. We purchased 3-day passes for $12 each our last trip using these coupons.

Do you mean $12 per day per person, or $4 per day pp?

It is $5 per ride pp without a day pass, and for two people it'll add up.
    There have a 3-day pass for $28 on lvmonorail.com

I'll be there next week and wondered whether to buy in advance, but if it's $12pp for 3 days I'll wait! :licklips:

Just to add a comment, if they ever do decide to build the expansion to connect the monorail to the airport it will become infinitely more popular but with it only costing $15-20 to begin with to cab it for a group, they will need to price it right

Get the pass. Just remember it does not run 24/7. Less chance of a taxi trying to rip you off. Also no tipping so save more $$$

Some walking is involved to get to the monorail stations and your final location but thats the fun of it. Its vegas.

If it's your first trip, do not do the monorail.

The Deuce bus is much more highly used, more convenient, provides more time than the monorail (deuce is 24/7 and monorail closes at 2a/3a depending on the day), stops at several more places than the monorail, has an express option, covers the entire strip and the outlets, allows you to "see" Vegas from the top of the double-decker (which is in itself an experience), and it also allows you to go downtown, off-strip and other places in vegas. $20 covers 3 days on the Deuce.

The monorail is only on one side of the strip, only at a few hotels, only on the strip (not anywhere else in vegas), always at the back of these properties (requiring so much walking that it negates the value since you could have just walked to the other casino in the same time as finding the monorail), low in value and takes away from the "sight-seeing" aspect of Vegas because it's facing the back of the properties.

Besides walking is part of the fun of Vegas. Walking immerses you into the vibe of Vegas. And if you are mid-strip, chances are you will rarely need a taxi unless you are in a rush! Even if you take a taxi, there is still lots of walking inside these humongous resorts. Bring comfortable shoes!

Edit: At MGM Signature, the value of the monorail is valid! It already requires so much walking getting out of there so it's worth it. Beautiful property. The monorail will help with ease of movement from Signature.

It was a 3-day pass for $12.00/pp. You have to purchase the pass at the manned booth near the monorail entrances.

Gotta agree with this statement. I love the monorail but walking through MGM for that thing takes 15mins from Excalibur. Its quicker to walk around the casino. The bus pass is way more convenient.

Get the 3-day bus pass. Use the bus, Tram, and walk. It's up to you. Having the 3-day bus pass allows you to do whatever....use the bus part of the way, the free Tram from Bellagio/Monte Carlo, and walk. If you are at MGM and want to see Wynn, you can take the free Tram from Monte Carlo up to Bellagio, then cross the street and take the bus up to Wynn, Fashion Show Mall, Riviera, etc. Or you can take the bus at MGM and ride it all the way to Downtown. You have many choices with the bus pass.
Why waste your time on the Monorail? Too far to walk to/from. In the meantime, having a bus pass, utilizing the free Trams, and walking along the Strip is much more enjoyable.
