16 year old in vegas...what to do?

What does one do to entertain a 16 year old girl in Vegas?
By odd circumstance I'll have my 16 year old niece in Vegas for a week.
I'd have almost no idea how to entertain her at home, let alone in Vegas.
Any suggestions would be great.

send her to one of the clubs to see the kind of debauchery she can expect after turning 18.

I have two suggestions... neither one are any good?

First- Get her a fake ID under the name of Nicole Papageorgio, Yuma, AZ... coach her on responding about being in "software"... remind her to tell anyone who asks that "she does not require vision correction. Additionally give her $300.00 (inflation) and don't ask any questions the next day.

Second - Seek counselling from a professional... they can teach you how to say "NO"!

Excalibur and Circus Circus have plenty to do for a 16 year old.

Where are you staying? Do they have a good pool? It was definitely still pool weather when we were there two weeks ago. ACirque show, the fashion show mall, the Outlet Mall, Ceasar's Mall. NYNY Roller Coaster, Frozen Hot Chocolates at Serendipity. Does she have an Ipad? Load her up with an ITunes card and let her down load Movies or TV shoes for evening.

There are plenty of things to do day and night:

Roller Coasters, Volcano, Treasure Island "Sirens", the Fashion Show Mall, the Luxor and MB for some nice pics, Venetian Canals, Caesars Palace, the Bellagio with the Fountains, The Bellagio art exhibit, the Flamingo bird sanctuary, pools, Hard Rock Hotel to see some rockers wardrobe and Guitars, the Eiffel Tower and Sugar Factory, listening to Bands at Carnival Court, shopping at Planet Hollywood, learning how to avoid Timeshare people, Excalibur shows, Circus Circus trapeze artists, the Shark Reef, Jack Sparrow lookalikes, Red Rock Canyon, etc.etc.
You can show her why most of us fell in love with Vegas in the first place. Give her a reason to come back and explain to her that Vegas is not just about being 21, it's about having fun.......and when she's old enough to drink and gamble, the sky's the limit.

I predict that by day 3 you will resort to giving her your credit card and sending her to the mall just so she's happy and you're happy.

 

As shifter says....credit card + mall = happy teen. Then you have time for the dice tables!

Also - show her what being an Eagles fan is like. Go place a bet on the Birds and then when that loses she can learn the value of money and not to bet on a team from Philadelphia...

I had the most fun in Vegas BEFORE I was 21...
A group of friends and I were all over that town, and the oldest was 18...
Shark Reef, Eiffel Tower, Stratophere Tower, Forum Shops, Volcano Show, Bellagio water show, NYNY Coaster, CircusCircus AdventureDome,
Vegas just isn't about gambling and hookers...its about sensory-overload and larger-than-life experiences...

 

My first time to Vegas was for a week when I was 17 for SEMA... fake ID made things pretty simple though... What a way to be introduced to Vegas with 2 25 year old buddies! LOL

 

I took my three teens to LV, one at a time when they were teens. I am self-employed and wanted to spend some one on one time with them. My youngest accompanied me for a week at my trade show during his February vacation. He went to seminars with me and exibits. Of my three kids he was most interested in business and the most helpful in that regard. He was interested in meeting some of the people that I meet there and have contact with during the year. He likes meeting people and he enjoyed those days. He gets his degree in business in December from UMAINE at Orono. My other two went with me during their april vacation for about 5 days.

You have to know what your teen likes to do. There is plenty for them to do. First of all, was giving them some options and getting them involved in planning what they would do. My kids grew up in a small town of 3,000 so the big city experience was exciting. They had all flown before but that is an adventure, packing, security, changing planes, shuttles, hotels etc. My kids were all good athletes but were all interested in theater. That was kind of the theme in LV. I packed as many shows as I could into our schedule. All enjoyed Viva Las Vegas, American Superstars or Legends in Concert, Scientas, Ron Loucas, Mac King, Rick Thomas, etc. We also did some Production shows, Mamma Mia, Mystiere, EFX etc. Katie, really enjoyed shopping, in particular Caesar's Forum Shops. She found some clothes and had a ball at Roxies at The STRAT where the waiters, waitresses and bus people would stop their jobs, grab a mike and sing and dance. Rick Springfield ran off stage, up an aisle and shook hands with her during his performance. She now has her degree in musical performance, having studied here and in the UK. My oldest son also likes shopping and also really liked the Forum Shops.

The rest of the time we filled in with different restaurants, riding the bus, and lots of tourists things like the moving statues at Caesars, volcano at Mirage, Fountains at Bellagio, Treasure Island, Circus Circus, etc. There are arcades, movies, museums etc. For my kids it was the excitement of the big city. We ran out of time before we ran out of things to do. They have seen plenty on TV and in movies about LV so it was a thrill to visit, and lots for them to talk to their friends about. Remember our first trips? It's pretty exciting for them too. I gave my boys a little time to explore, take the bus and be on their own as well.

So talk to your niece, find out what she likes, her expectations and get her involved. I enjoy the time between trips.......planning the next one! Don't we all?

It will be over thanksgiving week, so a tad too cold for the pools unfortunately.
We'll be at the MGM.
I don't get to see her much so I have no idea what she likes. I've told her to bring a friend along, but she doesn't want too.

Are there any shows that are age appropriate?

I'm sure there will be plenty of shopping...

 

Pinball Hall of Fame also has original arcade video games, not just pinball. Took my 16 yr old there figuring I'd like the pinball, he'd like the video. He ended up loving both.

Shopping, two outlet centers in Vegas, one's downtown, one's just south of the airport.

Hoover Dam, while not terribly exciting, it's a nice trip to share and it's a pretty amazing site, even to a bored 16 yr old.

Shopping, Fashion Mall.

Movies at Orleans (you get two solid hours of gaming if you get her to go to a movie).

Shopping, Miracle Mile shops @ PH.

You can see alot of shows at 16. Many of them are 15 and up. Check visit las vegas website, you can research the shows and know their age restrictions.

Did I mention shopping, she is 16.

 

Most 16 yo girls are independent . The question is how much money do you want to spend, and what is she into.

Stratosphere has the rides,plus a cool place to stop for a burger.
Factory outlet malls, one near downtown and one south of the strip.
Go to the end of the line for the bus and sit upstairs front row and get best view of a strip tour

 

if she doesn't want to bring a friend it sounds like she is interested in seeing you VS just "spending time doing something" or perhaps she is shy and does not have good friends and then should spend some time with you

simply ask her what she wants to do with a list of those things offered up from here and be prepared to get an answer that involves you spending a lot of time with her

there are multiple bowling alleys at many properties, movies at many properties, helicopter rides are not outrageously expensive for an aunt and niece looking to be together, art at Belleigo and conservatory there as well
