I’ll be visiting the Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast and MSS in October and have some points to use.
Boyd’s website says that at “Boyd-owned” restaurants you can pay with points and get 40% off the meal (with a player's card). I know the buffets and casino cafe are "Boyd-owned”, but does anyone know which other restaurants at Boyd’s properties (above) are “Boyd-owned” ?

For example at Orleans: Prime Rib Loft, Cana Street, Big Al’s Oyster Bar, Coasta Cantina, Koji, Brendans Irish Pub... Do any of these qualify for the 40% off if pay with points?

I’m guessing TGI Fridays and the Food Fair restaurants are not “Boyd Owned”. But I think I can still pay with points at these non-Boyd owned restaurants?--- but will not get a 40 % discount on food?

I know I can ask when I get there, but I'm just scoping out my options pre-trip.

    Thanks for any info:peace:

We ate at the Prime Rib Loft in June and they did use the points, I don't know about the other places tho.

They are valid as you mentioned at "Boyd owned" places only. That eliminates places like Fridays.

The liquor store at Orleans and Suncoast are Boyd owned and you can get a 10% discount showing your card, but unless things changed you can't pay with points.

At the Cal, all the restaurants on the first floor are Boyd owned

At MSS the 777 & of course the buffet

At Fremont, all of them except Tony Roma's

At Suncost, all of them except Friday's and the ice cream store.

If you end up paying for drinks, you can also pay with points and get the 40% discount at the bar.

I am assuming in order to use this discount, you have to pay for the entire thing with points (or can it be split--cash and points)?

Side note: How do you check your points? Which number on the website is the dollar amount?

Alcohol was involved. so don't take this as gospel, but I think when I treated my family I was able to pay with points the amount that wasn't covered with the comp.

As far as dollar amount, once logged into B Connected, it is the "slot points" total. 10,000 points = $10 if you cash them out.

"Card score" determines your card Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.

I don't play enough to matter, but I understand there is also a table games total. I've never had that show up on my account, but it would work the same as slot points.

Nope, not the same as slot points.
Table game points don't "build-up". If you don't ASK for a comp directly after playing a session, then the "comps" portion disappears, but the "play" portion (what they look at for offers, etc) stays on your account.

I have always found this "40% off with points" statement to be misleading. Here's what it means --

If you cash in your slot points, you get $1 for every 1,000 points. If you have 10,000 points, you can get $10 cash for them.

If you use your points for food, the formula changes to 600 points = $1. So that same 10,000 points is worth $16 off your restaurant bill. This is the case at any restaurant that accepts points at the Boyd or Coast properties.

If you don't have enough points to cover the bill, you can pay part of it with points and pay cash for the balance.

I'm confused what you find misleading? If I cash out 100,000 points, I receive $100. If I have a $100 food bill and pay with points, it costs me 60,000 points. I saved 40,000 points, which equals $40.

Great then: Prime Rib Loft, Triple 7 Pub MSS and the SC Prime Steakhouse @Suncoast at 40% off - pay with points seems like a super deal.

However, I'll avoid the MSS buffet as I did happen to get a nasty case of food poisoning last year from either that buffet or the Flame restaurant. (I'm thinking it was one of the MSS buffet items though).

    Thanks for the info.

On what suecasey said (and based on the player club at Gold Coast), for food you can just swipe your card for 40% more value on your points towards your food bill OR you can cash out your points and pay 40% off. You will get more with the latter.

I've paid with points at Big Al's Oyster Bar @ Orleans - I highly recommend the clam chowder - just excellent!

It depends where you earn your table points to know if you can use them for comps. I play mainly at Sam's Town in Shreveport, LA. On my BConnected account, my slot points and table points are listed separately. Until recently, I could only use the table points in Shreveport. Previously, they couldn't even "see" my table points if they looked at my account in Vegas. That recently changed and I am now able to use my table points anywhere, but for food comps only (at Big Al's, for instance :)).

Yes, using your points instead of cash back is a 40% gain in point value. But to say you get a 40% discount on the price of food when using your points is misleading!

I'm not sure what you are saying is accurate. If you cash out your points it will be done at a rate that is much less than buying the food with them. If you cash out your points and pay with cash you will not receive a 40% discount on your food.

As what Sue Casey said, the wording DOES confuse people (just look at the number of posts on this topic and debate).

MOST casinos do this same thing.... offer more dollar value using your points for comps vs cashback/freeplay. But only Boyd chooses to use this wording "40% discount", which causes the confusion.

It's not really the food that is discounted (just check your bill if you doubt it, you will not see a 40% reduced price on your check), its just that the rate of points used in paying for food is greater than the rate for cash back/freeplay.

I have not tried the 40% discount but this is what the players club said.

Is the 'cash out' a comp slip or actual cash?

A voucher they write at the player's club, which then has to be taken to the casino cage for the cash.

This horse is already dead, so this is my last whack. If you redeem for cash, the redemption return is 10,000 points = $10. I believe the minimum is 10,000 to redeem.

Sorry, it is misleading. Do they make the statement 40% discount using your points at the stores? No. It is the redemption value that has been there for quite a while. 600 pts. for food, 1000 for cash back. Using points is a general
comment. So one can assume I am using my points for food and they are giving me a 40% discount on the food now. I have used it for years and then recently because of the advertising I asked them about it.
