A good friend and I went down to Tunica last week and for the first time in a few years, I found myself playing a ton of blackjack. BJ used to be my main game of choice, but I stopped playing, mainly because I got sick of drunk and/or ignorant players bitching at the tables. Slowly, the focus of my play shifted more toward craps and baccarat.

But since BJ is my buddy's favorite game, we spent most of the trip playing it. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the game, especially since the level we were playing at we did not have to worry much about other drunk jerks making it less fun.

So now I am thinking I might replace half my bac play on the next couple Vegas trips with BJ play. The plan right now is to stay at Cosmo next month and Aria in November. If anyone has any experiences or thoughts on BJ play in the high limit areas of those places, please share. I stood next to a buddy playing high limit BJ at Cosmo a couple years ago and I played for maybe half an hour one time in the carta privata at Aria, but don't recall much about the experience. Any thoughts are appreciated....

BJ in the Carta Privada at Aria is a very nice place to play. probably my favorite place in all of Vegas. of course that could be because the one and only time I played there I took 5k from them in about 30 minutes playing black chips.

one time I went into the old Cosmo HL room and didn't play BJ but saw the tables and it was deader than dead. I guess that's good if you like to play alone. but IIRC they had incredibly high mins like $500 on all tables even though nobody was there.

The time I hung out with a friend paying in the Cosmo HL, there was only one other BJ player there. It was a Sunday night and craps was busy, so I was a bit surprised that there were only two BJ players.

Your experience at Aria was similar to mine. I hit up the room for less than half an hour and won $2k playing black chips. That was a couple years ago and I don't think I have stepped foot in there since

    Cosmo has 2 places

High limit near the main floor
    talon room

    1. 6 deck shoe, stay on s 17, machine shuffle (but not that autoshuffler)
    2. drink service is quick as its usually not that packed

My luck seem to be decent here. They rate via a computer terminal and the floor updates it often.

Due to the "crowd" at cosmo, limits at 100 or 200 table you still get the "unwanted" every now and then. Max bet 10k.

The talon room limits are higher, but its a ghost town in there. comfortable but seems more of an old school room than a "cosmo high energy place"

Aria room is a little more dark, but more chic. I get tired playing in the dark for hours (but that's just me)

Ive never seen the high limit room at aria have bad players, but my luck is bad there so I never spent much time in there.

I prefer the last table of blackjack. closest to the craps table and your back is facing a roulette on the main floor. but even at 100 or 200 limits, there are people that will drop in for a few hands an leave.

Aria, I like their drinks better. They have werid stuff, fresh carrot juice, water melon juice.

6 deck, NOT ALL tables are stay of S17, have to read the felt.

When playing at Aria, don't rule out playing out on the regular casino floor. I played there in Dec of last year at a $25 min DD game at the same table where there were 2 ladies at the table firing away at 2 up to 10 yellow checks per hand. The key there I think is that it was during the mid morning hours. We had a lot of pass thru by security, which was probably due to so much money being on our table ... but other than that we had no issues with any drunks passing thru or wanting to play at our table.

Thanks. I have played bac in the talon room and you're right, the vibe is unusual. I did not realize they had BJ tables up there. I thought it was all bac

Strangely, the Aria main floor was the last place I played a lot of BJ in Vegas. Great rules and I ;like the Aria main floor generally, but that night there was a drunk jerk sitting at first base that would not shut up. It was that session that drove me away from BJ until now. Not the first time I had encountered a drunk player, but he would just not shut up about how he could make a living at BJ if I and the other players just knew the right plays to make every hand and how the pit boss needed to raise the limits for him (even though he was betting only one or two green chips per hand). Something tells me the mid morning hours has a lot less of that :peace:

I no longer play at Cosmo as it seems like they keep upping their limits while tightening their rules.
Aria has s17 DD, sometimes even on the floor, and Carta Privada has the best combo of drink service and friendly staff of virtually all the HL rooms.
And I'm glad to see all the money I lost in there didn't stay at Aria.

UK, I was last there in September, July before that. IIRC had $50 DD that went to $100 that was 6/5. Lots of 6/5 games period. 8 deck shoes with CSMs, only one 6d with s17 and that was $300 during the week, just way too much of a CET vibe in a hipster context. Good food though.

While I appreciate the low house edge in baccarat I find BJ much more cerebral and thus infinitely more fun to play.

On the main floor ALL the 2-deck games are 6:5 H17, usually $25/$50 minimum. There are lots of 8-deck shoes H17, and those will be $25 minimum at night. I'm pretty sure there are CSMs as well; you might get those for $15 min.
