Today I ate at an authentic Mexican restaurant, owned, operated and staffed by native Mexicans. My server was a pretty senorita. Her name tag was Xiomara.

I asked her how that name was pronounced and she said Zee-o-mara. I told her it was the most unusual and exotic name I had ever heard. I have never heard that name before in my life.

How unusual is this name? We flirted a bit and if I was younger, I swear I would have asked for her phone number.

Good Mexican food, served by a pretty Senorita, on a gorgeous final day of summer.

    Life is good.

I live in an area with a fair amount of hispanics and I see a lot of names come thru my desk at work and can't recall seeing that one.

It's not extremely common, but it isn't uncommon. I've known several people with that name.

I always thought that Spanish names beginning with X were pronounced like a "ch" or kind of a "sh" sound...but Spanish speakers usually can't pronounce an English "sh" very well.

I really have no idea where I'm going with this...:rolleyes2:

I said that her NAME was exotic and she was attractive and friendly with a beautiful accent. You should have heard her say "burrito".

    I have a neighbor named.....

I have a young all American gal whose parents decided to name her Xochitl.
    She pronounces her name SO-CHEE.

A Mexican born worker has the ancient name of Abundio which I think is rare.

Whenever I meet Mexican workers with the names that start with an X.... it is
super hard to pronounce or remember it.

Most of the Latina women I have met are named Senorita. It's pretty common I guess, no Xs in it though.

One of my favorite soups of all times is xochitl from a place in Antigua Guatemala. Whenever I smoke a turkey, I replicate it as best I can:peace:

    (and they pronounced it "Cho-Chit-l)
