Hi Guys

Just wondering what can I expect from Harrahs Ive read a few reviews on trip advisor but there that vast you cant really know what to expect also can anyone give me any tips like hidden gems or does the 20 dollar room upgrade work ETC.

 

Harrahs is a pretty decent hotel in the mid-strip area.

It certainly isn't fancy but it's step up from the Quad (IP) and Bally's North tower.

I've stayed there many times in the past few years (and will do so again in November).

Location, I would argue, is its primary selling point.

It doesn't have wi-fi (even the Quad has that) so everything is wired (if that's a concern)

The restaurant options aren't fantastic, serviceable at best although I do like the KGB burger joint and i did enjoy a good meal a The Range steakhouse but that was before it became Ruth Chris'. That said, you are within easy walking distance of Caesars, Flamingo, Ballys/Paris, Venetian, Mirage and TI so you won't be spoiled for options.

$20 trick...never bothered to try it.

I book what I want and pay accordingly. I only use the room for sleeping and recovering from hangovers. I really don't care if it has a view or not.

The only thing I ask when checking in is that the room be away from Carnival Court

 

I have to respectfully disagree with the previous poster. We stayed there once approx two years ago and only because we wanted to be in close proximity to our traveling companions that were staying at Mirage. We would never stay there again. We didn't like our room, really didn't like the dining options and disliked the casino. Ballys is our home away from home usually. We just like everything about it. Except for our upcoming trip, where we are staying at Mirage. But, lol, my mother and two kids are staying at Harrahs, again, because of the proximity to where we are. I am sure though, that we will be spending a lot of our time at Ballys. In fact i have really been pondering whether to move all of our reservations to Ballys, to the real annoyance of my husband. My mother keeps saying she doesn't care, it's only a room, and my two kids could care less. But, obviously, to each their own. It is all going to depend on each individuals preferences.

 

Flavors, The Buffet at Harrahs received 14 demerits on a September 5th health inspection. Violations include pest control issues, improper food temperature, cross contamination of food, and faulty hot and cold holding equipment. This buffet now has a B rating by the Southern Nevada Health Dept.

thanks for all the info bit of mixed reviews cant see my self going to the buffet after last report, cant see myself staying in the room that oftern though not when you have all the sights and sounds of vegas to see.

 

Harrah's is my go to hotel. Mostly because they see fit to give me free rooms. It is a solid 3 star/average/middle of the road property when it comes to the rooms. I have always found them clean and comfortable. As previously posted, the food options are fairly limited but there is no shortage of places nearby. The casino itself is pretty meh but again, lots of other places really close. I find a lot of the complainers on TripAdvisor were expecting a luxury hotel so were disappointed. Expect a Holiday Inn and you'll be fine.

 

Just to be clear. Does Harrah's have WiFi or wired internet?

 

well thats what im expecting with what ive paid for the trip, like you said its near all the other casinos bars etc

 

As far as I know, it's all WIRED.

I heard a rumour that the "suites" (whatever they are) MIGHT have wi-fi...but all of the standard rooms are WIRED.

On one occasion, I actually had to power on the in-room router because it hadn't been left on by default...I'm chalking that one up to a whoopsie somewhere.

What I have found is that the supplied cable isn't always the longest so you may have to drag the table closer to the router.

I always carry my own network cable just in case.

 

Most would consider Harrah's in the bottom quartile of strip hotels. Yes, it is a step up from the worst hotel on the strip. But read between the lines: Even those who like it "only use it for sleeping" or like its location "close to other (better/nicer) places" and admit the casino and restaurants are subpar.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't stay there. Just be aware you are not going to a "nice" place, but if you are in the "I won't spend much time in the room" camp it will be fine.

 

Like everything else in Vegas, it is subjective. We stayed at Harrahs in 2011 and 2012, I actually put the rooms/casino above Ballys and Flamingo. Only real drawback is their pool. If you want to go back and forth to the Venetian and avoid the foot traffic on the strip...go out the back door where the cabs are. Walk down the hill and cross at the crosswalk into Venetians parking garage, take the elevators up from there. We went over a few times and found that helpful. Trip Advisor reviews can be all over the place...your best bet for any hotel when reading their TA page is to look at the number of people who rated it...how many stars. Take the best and the worst and throw them out. If 2/3 of the people rate it in the top 3 then it isn't that bad. The people who rate it a 5 have never been anywhere before and the people who rate it a 1 are comparing it to Bellagio. Then on top of that you have the people who rant because of no coffee, no fridge, no microwave, no free internet, no free breakfast, smoke, expensive food....any Vegas hotel will get those.

 

That entirely depends on the criteria being used.

It's in my top quartile for my personal* reasons which may have nothing to do with anyone else's reasons.

If I could pay the same and stay at the MGM....I'd still pick Harrahs because it's where I want to be and location is more important to me than price.

If I could pay the same and stay at Venetian, Mirage, TI...I'd pick one of the others over Harrahs.

 

It is all about expectations. If you do not have Bellagio or Wynn expectations, you will be fine at Harrah's.

 

Stayed the October 2012 and 7/11 to 7/17/13. It is what it is.

We had large groups and overall no problems nor complaints. It's your basic room to crash and relax in.

This past trip the girls loved Toby Keith's Thursday night ladies' night $20 all you can drink. KGB was a pretty good hamburger and the fiance won some money when she occassionally gambled. That's all we did there. Everything else was at other locations but for the price (comped rooms every night except for Fri&Sat at $50/night with no resort fees due to when we booked) and location it was worth it.

 

I've stayed at Harrahs on and off for over 30 years, since the days it was the Holiday Casino. Fits my needs just fine as I don't go to Vegas to spend a lot of time in the room. Clean and comfortable beds and bathroom usually has a double sink if my buddy is staying in the same room with me. Not the largest rooms by far, but believe it or not about the same size as Bellagio's standard rooms.

Food choices are limited, but in addition to what's been mentioned, there's an Oyster Bar that's very good and their 24 hr (maybe on limited hours now) cafe is just so so as far as I'm concerned. Upstairs is Toby Keith's which have decent sandwiches as well. There also used to be a Chinese joint there next to the cafe. Really sad to hear about Flavors recent demerits as I liked that buffet for good food and not an arm and a leg price. Hope they get their act together soon.

Staying there again in about a month.

Oh and about the $20 trick. Used to work years back, but now the suits at CET has all of the reservation clerks "upselling" room upgrades rather than giving them away. That said, it never hurts to try. Worst that can happen is they look at you like you have two heads.:evillaugh

 

I just stayed at Harrahs for 2 nights in a petite suite. The room was nice except for 3 things the bed was old and hard. They only had the very bouncy pillows and the thermostat was a motion one like in most CET rooms.

I like the location and most of the food outlets are good. It is a nice property except like many others needs to be freshened up.

 

I would have said if you don't have Bally's expectations.

 

Great location, clean rooms, monorail station.
sports book is small. Have stayed there many times really like harrah's. But like said by many people do not stay on the carnival court side.

 

And now they have Big Elvis playing in the piano bar Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons!

 

He's been there since Spring of last year.
