I am a low-roller but I do ever so often play max bet, play a $5 slot (upwards) on occasion, place a green chip down at a $5 table. (Of course I only do this when I am willing to lose it.) By no means is a $25 bet high-rolling to any high-roller but to me it's stratospheric-rolling.

Relative to your own play, when do you play out of the ordinary? Any big wins?

I'm a red chip blackjack player, usually $10-15 per hand. Earlier this year I was at a $10 table and increased my bet $5 each time I won until I got up to $30. Once I was at $30 I increased it $10 per win and got up to $100 before I lost. I ended up cashing out $700 or so ahead of my buy in.

A month or so later I was playing $10 per hand and got up $200 quite quickly. I went and grabbed something to eat and figured I'd sit down at a $25 table since all the lower limit tables were full when I got back. I took my $200 profit from earlier and went on a run in about an hour and cashed out at $1500, my biggest win ever. I treated myself to a nice new Titleist driver a few days later.

Over the course of the last few years I have evolved from a solid "low roller" to a more than likely "no roller" meaning I won't really gamble much on my trips to Las Vegas. The reasons behind this change are because I spend more than enough time in my favorite city that gambling is more of an after thought.

I occasionally do enjoy betting a few quarters on the Sigma Derby machine at The D.

Other than that I played some BJ at Hooters a couple of months ago and decided to play the 10 dollar minimum against my better judgement... I lost all 100 dollars of my buy in in short order.

I usually play $5.00 on the pass line with double odds. Then start off with $22.00 inside once point is set.

So for that particular gambling session I buy-in for roughly ten times that amt. which is about $400.00.

This is red chip low rolling at best. For me to start betting green chips the table needs to show a consistent positive trend otherwise your session bankroll will be gone in short order.

I've bought the 4 and 10 for $25.00 several times and it hurt me more than helped since my session bankroll cannot withstand the volatile swings of the table.

I figure green chip betting requires at least $1500.00 for a session buy-in, based on above bets. Too rich for me.

So for me, "high rolling" can only happen if I'm substantially up for that particular session. Not having the proper session bankroll in relation to your planned betting scheme can be disasterous.

Anytime I have a windfall of any kind when I arrive in Vegas, (such as a friend re-paying me the $300 he borrowed on the last trip), I buy in for all of it at a $25 two-deck game.
My objective is always the same - to double it, or lose it all trying.

So far, I'm batting about .150... sort of like my Texas Rangers over the past month or so...

I sat down with my buddy at a green chip BJ table to unwind one trip after digging myself out of a huge hole. going from betting up to 15k to $25-50 is quite relaxing actually. it was also kind of fun because I wasn't going to give them my card to blow my rating, so nobody had any idea who I was. it was kind of nice to be just another anonymous donkey at the tables.

Normally $50 to $100 bets where $125 to $150 is my comfort level. Going $300 to $500 is more than enough and it only happened three times for the past five years I have been active. Two was in the beginning (2009/2010) when I didn't know any better and the third time (week before the holidays 2012) was because things were going well so might as well up my flat betting limit which made for a very nice Christmas afterwards.

I start at $5 bets at craps but once I start pressing, I don't stop until the shooter 7's out. I got on one big roll where the shooter hit place 6 something like 13 times and I had $750 on it before he rolled out.

    6

    90
    120
    150
    300
    450
    600
    750

Made a ton on that initial $6 bet. The last few hits were quite awesome. I was prepared to go to table max and not chicken out :D

    Would have been:
    1500
    2250
    3000 (max)

    So close...

To me high rolling is upping my bet to $25 on BJ or playing max bet on a penny machine if I am up for the day. Other than that...I tend to looooow roll with my BR. Hey, maybe that's why I've never hit a handpay!

the low limit bj doesnt matter,if your playing $6 a hand on the the penny slots thats considered high rolling to the casino. your probably getting nice suites, all your food and other high comps at the top casinos. so that isnt low rolling. :peace:

This past weekend, on my last morning there I wandered into the high limit slots area and ran a couple hundred through a $25 slot machine. Not even a cherry. :grrr:

Or as I sometimes say, "I've bet black chips all night once … that's why I'm betting red ones today!" Okay, that may not be why I'm betting $5, but I have bet $100 minimum all night once; and I learned a valuable lesson: When you're going through a messy divorce, taking "funny" pills, and drinking heavily, you really don't need to go to a casino!

If I am going to do be betting a few steps higher than normal I will wait until the end of the night, around the last hour before we are going to go up to the room.

    I do that because:
    a) I have had some good wins at slots, VP and roulette and this way the money is more likely to make it up to the room at the end of the night.
    b) If I did it too early in the day and it doesn't go well then I might try to chase after my losses and end up blowing through my whole daily budget quickly.

Another thing we do is set up money in the budget for a high rolling session or two. Like for one day we might have a budget of $300 each for playing slots, my wife and I, but then for that day we'll also have an extra $500 each thats going to go for some higher rolling that I'll sit with my wife while she goes through hers and then she'll sit with me while I go through mine. With the two of us there doing that its more likely if we have a good hit at something we'll be able to convince the other to cash it out and put it aside or use it for another day or break it up in to the remaining days or something like that.

I have learned over the years that if I try "high rolling" I don't win a penny...:( Many times after having a winning slot day I would put a $100 in a $5 machine...nothing, not even a cherry. The only table game I play is 3 Card...if I get up a few hundred I will go from 5, 5, 5 bets to 10,10, 10 bets...yeah you guessed it...never win a hand when I do that. Next trip I swear I am not going to go outside my comfort window.

Craps can get a little out of hand at times that is for sure.

If I decide to play the $10-$25 per spin machine it is with money put aside specifically for the high rolling portion of the trip.

I was pretty proud of myself last trip playing the HL slots.
One time I walked away as I felt the machine was too cold instead of playing it until the money ran out.
The other time I quickly got a nice hit and actually left after 2-3 more spins instead of giving it all back.
