Hi…just trawling for some ideas on what to do on my first night after a long flight from UK. Staying at the MSS, will be arriving at hotel at around 4pm on Friday 8th November. Looking to have a relatively chilled start to vacation but want to try and stay awake to at least 10pm in order to combat jet lag. Not trying to plan too much but was thinking along the following lines:

    • Something light to eat (burger, pizza or similar) – any suggestions as to where would be good?
    • Some video poker and drinks at a spot with good people watching potential – any ideas?
I like to party but not sure I can deal with the FSE crowds when exhausted from the flight.

My first time Downtown btw…2 nights at MSS, then 4 nights Aria, followed by 6 days hiking in DV/Zion and Bryce, then final 4 nights at MGM.

Also solo for the whole trip!

    Cheers,

For me, the answer is simple. Stay at MSS, eat at the 777, and play VP at the bar. Other than staying there, I did the other two, along with BJ last Wednesday and Thursday during my solo trip. Have a great time!

Well, you could join me for a Birthday Toast at the Boar's Head Bar as I celebrate 51 years of mediocrity.

For food the 777 has a pretty good Happy Hour menu.

    Now get off my lawn.

Only at MSS on 7th & 8th before switch to Harrahs!

Then again, there is so much to chose from: http://www.fremontstreetbars.com/

That'd be great. I'll be at the Boar's Head at 5pm.

That sounds like a perfect plan! On our last trip we had to schedule a show on the first night that my GF wanted to see. I knew better, but it was the only night we could fit it in, I basically slept threw the entire show. I was so tired I thought I was going to have to crawl to the cab. No more events on travel day for me!

DITTO! However, after such a long flight, I would also recommend stretching your legs and taking a stroll down FSS to experience the crazy downtown weekend vibe.

I've had a few times in Vegas where with the working day before, unable to sleep before the flight, flying out, etc that we were up for over 50 hours... I just find that once in Las Vegas its pretty revitalizing just being there

Another vote 777 and Boars bar. Although I have to agree that if it were me I'd take a relaxed walk down Freemont to stretch my legs after a long flight. If you don't want to be around the crazyness then do it when you first arrive before eating.

Don't have the Taco salad at 777, lol, it gave me agida.

    Agida?...ahhh heartburn, thanks Google!

Thanks for the advice. Will definitely check out Boars Head on the Friday.

Bungadin...I'll look out for you and buy you that Birthday beer. I see from your avatar that you're a Rush fan. Bit of a metal head myself!

    Cheers,

    T

While it is a good bar, the MSS Boar's Head Bar would be very low on my list for downtown bars for good people watching, it that is really a priority.

its fantastic for the first "I'm in vegas" drink. or 6.

Good microbrew, chat to the bartenders if its quiet or just turn around and take in the whole view of gambling vice as you are raised above the machines and can see everything.

Ok, maybe I'm biased but my Vegas trip doesn't start until I've got a pint of black chip in my hand at the boar bar...

I would think the rectangular bar at the Four Queens might be better for people watching, although I seldom go there. In fact, I meet people almost every time I sit at the bar in the 777. Maybe it's because there aren't any bar top machines, which goes a long way toward fostering "other activities." No, I'm not mentioning the Long Bar in the D – it's far too noisy to carry on a conversation or even drink a beer IMHO.

One of the best evenings we have had people watching was at the Plaza. We sat on the back side of the bar that is next to the stairs going to the showroom. There were a couple of "gentleman" hitting on a hook..... lady of the evening trying to work out a deal. There were some very attractive girls on the other side with a well dressed man with lots of bling. Then there was the older gentleman in a coat and tie sitting by himself drinking cofffee. All these people seemed to be watching each other closely, maybe it was our beer heightened imagination that made it seem that way, but we were putting together some pretty good stories about what was going on. The good thing about sitting on the backside of the bar is you are looking out at the casino floor and can see pretty much everything without it being obnoxiously loud.

After watching this for a while security finally showed up to escort the escort out with the now three guys in tow like little puppy dogs. The attractive girls and the guy with bling were gone just leaving the coat and tie guy drinking coffee, which I knew was related to the transpired events.

So I went over and spoke with this gentleman to see how close we were to what was really going on. We weren't too far off. He worked security at the Plaza, kinda got that right. The attractive girls with the guy wearing the bling were actually show girls and bling guy was part of the show not hookers with their pimp, missed that one. The escort was an escort, nailed that one. Coat and tie guy said he had seen enough of her shenanigans that he wanted her off the property and had her escorted out.

Overall this was a very entertaining night of cheap fun while enjoying a beer in Vegas.

Does anybody know when the Golden Nugget new outside bar area opens? That would seem to be a great place to have a few drinks and check out the going’s-on in the FSE.

Don't know when the new outdoor GN bar opens but they do have a smaller one a few yards to the east that seats about 10.

Binions Whisky Licker might be what you're looking for. Pretty good view of FSE and right across from the new GN bar.

    Looking forward to that beer.
