It's probably a more productive (and more profitable) use of Strip frontage, but I'm going to miss the old facade. NY-NY is one of those properties that I loved at the beginning due to the intricate theming, but have seen become more and more generic over the years.

 

Thanks for the link. That's a good website for the latest and greatest construction update photos. I took some construction pics this weekend that I was going to post, but that site has all my shots covered.

 

Why would you want people outside when the casino is inside? It's not even a draw for people to come inside since there are shops/restaurants etc.

 

There is no draw on that side of the strip at all for people to walk to. The MGM side has all the shops that face the street where most of the people are at.

Look at the Monte Carlo and NYNY side. Why would you walk there if theres nothing to see other than if your destination is to walk into NYNY itself. Shops and restaurants will help bring people to that side with this new development.

Was just in vegas last week and saw the construction. Its nice to see that side of the street get a makeover. Its long overdue.

 

Because the average young visitor to Vegas now spends more on food/drinks/entertainment than they do gambling. It's a trend that has been continuously shifting towards non-gambling in the past few years and there's no sign that there will be a return to gambling being the big draw of Vegas.

This is why $550 million is being spent to build Linq and the giant ferris wheel. They could have spent that money remodeling casinos, but they chose to use the funds to put in a trendy bowling alley, a bunch of retail, and plenty of modern dining and drinking options.

My focus in Vegas has never been on gambling. My friends who come visit me in Vegas have absolutely no desire to gamble either. When they plan their trip, no thought is given to the casino space itself. It's all about dining and clubbing.

Those who are here to gamble are already gambling. Casino upgrades are not going to draw anyone to NYNY who wasn't already planning on going to NYNY. Put in the West Coast's first Shake Shack? Now you have tens of thousands of people a year flocking to the south side of the strip just to try it. And they'll stay to buy some drinks and maybe head into the casino and recklessly drop some money into some slots or place a few sucker bets at the tables.

 

God damn it, now I'm going to have to grab a concrete on my way home. It's Red Velvet today...

Anyway, I think my issue is less that they're adding in all this new stuff, and more that they're not really making any effort to integrate it into the existing property plan. I have zero issue with Diablo's Cantina at Monte Carlo, but I hate how it seemed like it was just tacked on as an afterthought. I have plenty of problems with the existence of Hyde, but I especially hate that it's just a blank wall that breaks up the rest of Bellagio; by contrast, the exterior of Hyde mostly fits in with the rest of the facade. I'm sure it's primarily a cost-saving issue, but it just feels like laziness to me.

 

It has been said that the Las Vegas branch of Shake Shack will offer a few shakes that are exclusive to Las Vegas. So you better hope you don't find a new favorite here because you'll have to fly back just to get it again!

 

I hope Shake Shack fails miserably. Mr Meyer is a New Yorker who once said about Las Vegas: (a city built upon so much transiency"). Good luck, i'll keep eating In n Out and Fatburgers or even Burger King to satisfy my taste buds.

 

if people are outside the casino wont they come inside too? bellagio has the fountains and people watch them all day long and a lot of them prolly come into the casino.

 

How many people make an effort to walk all the way to NYNY just to go into the casino. LOL I have a handful of other casinos I'd rather walk into before I go to NYNY. If they had something interesting to at least visit, then theres a better possibility I would end up going into the casino after.

 

We're getting a cronut Concrete on Tuesday. I may or may not be getting up at 8am to wait on line for this.
