if you win at the casino hehehe can they give you a check for your winnings instead of cash?

if they do this,is there a minimum amount you have to win so they give you a check?

if i win just a few thousand dollars can i get a check?

after i leave vegas i am going to spend a couple of days with a buddy of mine in LA. i dont want to carry too much cash i dont need over there because he has a lot of unemployed roommates i dont know and they will be home all day where my bags will be.

    cheers

No reason to waste your time with a check just have them wire the money to your bank account. That's what I always do. I'm sure they have minimums to do that but I've had no problem with as little as 5k. But yes they will give you a check if you really want.

I'm not sure of all of the ins & outs of getting a casino check for your winnings, but my understanding is that they are normally reluctant to do so for the average player.

I imagine that if you had a decent "line of credit" and the amount was fairly large that they'd do so with no problem.

In the past, when I had a substantial amount of cash, I just stopped into a local bank (any one will do) and had them exchange it for a cashier's check. They'll charge you a small fee. I mailed the check home.

i dont have a marker account with the casinos so they dont have my bank information. will they still wire me the money if i give them the bank information when im there? that doesnt really matter tho as long as i can get a check its perfect.

im just trying to prepare for winning!

Yes, you can get a check.

However, at the time of a handpay if you ask for some or all of the winnings in check form they will do that for free, IE: if you won $10,000 you could ask for the whole thing in cash, the whole thing as a check or you could ask for a mix, like $5000 cash and a $5000 check... but if you go later, even if its the same handpay winnings or just a bunch of money you've won over the course of the night, to the casino cage and ask for it as a check they will usually charge you a fee for the check.

But that said, I would just do as Shifter is saying and ask them to wire the money to your account - you can get that information from your bank or in some cases from logging in to your online account, and once the money is in your account its there you won't have to worry about anything like a check hold (if your bank does that for out of state checks) or possibly losing the check and then the wait and hassle of trying to get a replacement.

About a year ago I was playing at Aria, I hit a $4,000 royal flush, I asked for a check and was told no, cash only.

    Hey Now!!!!

Same thing happened to me at Orleans. I asked for a check on a $4k royal, and the guy said he already brought the cash. I told him I asked the slot attendant who first came up for a check, and he shot me a dirty look. He was probably pissed because he had paid me cash for a $2k royal the night before. And I tipped them $20 each. The second night I was at a bartop, so he gave the cash to the bartender to count out to me. I tipped the bartender $100.

Somewhat related question -- If you ask for a check on a handpay do they automatically take taxes out or is it the full amount? In other words, can you still elect to pay taxes later if you're paid by check?

My dad's best friend hit $90k at MGM a few years back. They gave him the option of check or cash or wire transfer. He opted for $20k in cash, and a check for the remainder. He FedExed the check back home because he knew if he had that kind of cash or casino credit he'd blow through it.

Once they get the cash from the cage or give you any cash they won't give you a check (They want you to keep playing). That being said I've always gotten checks from the cage when I leave without a problem.

A lot of it depends on the amount of money and your status with the casino. First you have to put the funds on deposit at the cage. They will put it in the system and give you a receipt. I do that with any significant winnings the whole trip to keep it safe. You can draw markers from the money on deposit. Then at the end of the trip whatever you have left on deposit you can go to the cage and ask for them to wire it to your bank and they'll give you a form where you put your bank info. I'm sure they have a minimum on how much they will wire, but I've done 5k a few times with no issue, but never less than that. The other key is to go to the HL cage. They do this kind of stuff all day long while the regular cage you're likely to run into somebody who doesn't know how to do it so claims it can't be done. It definitely can be done.

Exactly the opposite! Checks leave a paper trail. Cash is what the money laundering statutes are aimed at.

I agree. Checks and wires are traceable so they don't care about that. What they won't do is take a check on deposit and then give you cash for it. They give you the check back before they give you any cash and that is precisely to prevent money laundering.

Two years ago at the MGM Grand my friend was sitting next to me and won $7,000 and they wouldn't issue her a check. They said they will only issue checks if over $10,000. She hit $7k two more times that weekend and they still wouldn't give her a check since each win was less than $10k. She had to keep all of that cash in the room safe and then in her carry-on luggage for the plane ride home. A good problem to have no doubt.

That's getting into a problem area. If you bring cash and put it on deposit I'm not sure if they will issue a check for that money. That's how youcan launder drug money. You deposit it and no record occurs because it's under 10k then you get a check back and deposit it and that's how you make the money legit because it looks like you won it at the casino.

    checks

Over the years I have requested and received a check in all ways described. I have taken a check for the whole amount with taxes out on a slot. Taken partial check and partial cash on a slot win. And win I hit a 10-team NFL teaser I asked for and received a check for the full amount. Perhaps different properties have different policies regarding issuing of checks.
