I'm not a downtown expert but the Main Street Station buffet is great.

El Cortez has a great burger special $5 - 1/2 lb burger, bag of chips and 12oz draft beer. Burger is good,
Binions Snack Bar - the one with counter and sit down tables that replaced the café. Good daily specials, lots of food for the value.

Tony Roma's (I think at Binion's) has an $8.99 prime rib dinner - my husband had it over the weekend and said it was really good.

Get your ass to the Market Square in the Cal before 9:00am - the graveyard specials last until then.

Steak and eggs $6.99 or something...

    Two's Company (2 eggs, 2 bacon/ham/sausage, 2 pancakes) $3.99

Cal Club at the California, downstairs by the craps tables.

They have a Steak stir-fry that's very good and filling for $7.99. They use fresh carrots, celery, onions, bell peppers, and sirloin cuts of meat.

It's a small place, open to the casino, they have a few tables and you can also request take-out.

Nothing fancy. Just good stuff. Just like Downtown!:beer:

Yes, the prime rib at Four Queens (Magnolias) is exceptional. It's $1 more than Tony Roma's at the Fremont, but it's worth it. You'll need your players club card to get it for $9.99, which saves you $2 off the normal $11.99 price.

Hint: If you like horseradish with your prime rib ask for it when you order. They don't bring it by default.

If you stay at Four Queens as a hotel guest, which I highly recommend, you'll get a fun book with lots of great coupons. 2for1 at Magnolias, 2for1 Binion's burger, and 2for1 breakfast coupons are included. Use the 2for1 coupon for two prime rib dinners and you'll have to pay full price ($11.99). but that's still just $6 each for prime rib dinners. You can also get a 2for1 at Magnolia's by joining the players club and showing one of the coupons they are giving away at the free slot machine at the entrance near the 3rd Street stage.

The cafe at the Cal has some good specials.

The 777 Brew Pub at Main Street Station has a great atmosphere and their burgers are pretty good for the price, but ask for the fries to be cooked extra crispy. Otherwise they are pretty limp. You'd think they would know better. Sheesh!

The Grill restaurant at the D is very good but overpriced for the area. They get about $12 for a specialty burger. I think you'll do a lot better at the Carson Street Cafe at Golden Nugget.

Golden Gate restaurant has fair prices and good food, but not really what I consider to be a cheap place to eat.

Lunch at Le Thai. For 10 dollars (I think) you get an entree and a soda. The food is high quality and well prepared.

JMHO, I liked the prime rib dinner at the Cal way better than the one at the EC. the Cal prime rib includes soup or an all you can eat salad bar. It also includes a cherries jubilee dessert. I tried the prime rib at the EC and I wasn't impressed and would rather go to the Cal instead.

Not sure if it's still open but the restaurant at the gold spike had a cheap prime rib dinner.

I'd skip the Gold Spike. It was never the better of the bunch and twice I got really tough meat there.
I second the Cal and you can skip the line if you are willing to eat at the counter. Just go to the front and ask if there are seats at the counter. We did that with 6 people and got ahead of a huge line.

I agree with the prime rib at the spike not being that great. just that the OP asked for frugal eats, I remember the spike prime rib being cheap (under $6). Not sure what is going on at the spike lately though.

I also agree with eating at the counter at the Cal Market street cafe and avoiding the lines.

I was actually quite impressed by the deep dish pizza at chicago brewing co in 4 queens. I would say is is more than enough for dinner and a snack later for most normal people. I wanna say it was just under $10. Plus a cool little bonus is that if you bring the receipt to the players club booth before 10pm they will match your tab from the restaurant in freeplay.

Lanai Express in the Fremont Hotel has some really low-priced meals.

They have fast food- Asian style noodles and beef, pork, and chicken dishes.

Many in the $4.00 to $8.00 range.

Place is open to the casino with diner type tables and you can order the food to go.
