What a badass. I've read about his gambling exploits before, but I liked how that article included many examples of his insane tipping habits. What an awesome guy.

Total badass. I can't even wrap my mind around a $300k bet.

What a great article. Thanks for providing the link. Heard about him paying off the CW's mortgage, but never heard the "Mirage story".

Packer is my all time favorite whale. Mainly because win or lose, he never forgot about the "little people". Today's big shots that could buy and sell us many times over are total jerks when it comes to tipping (reportedly Tiger Woods and Bill Gates are in this category).

Kerry Packer was a legendary tipper, for certain. But for me, his ability to deflate the "high and mighty" remains unmatched.

A well known story about Packer was related by Bobby Badlwin to the LVRJ after his death:

Baldwin said that Packer was at one table and the Texan, playing one table over, wanted some bigger action. Packer turned him down. “The other guy said, ‘I’m a big player too. I’m worth a hundred million.’ “Kerry said, ‘If you really want to gamble, I’ll flip you for it (the $US100 million).’ ” The Texan quietly went back to his game.

    R.I.P., big man.

Heard that story, Bazzito. Still puts a smile on my face when I read it.

Great Article, thanks for linking to it. No matter our level in financial life, any gambler and vegas lover can certainly appreciate how he handled himself.

I know a guy who was part of his entourage for a while (family member by marriage). Not only did he pay for the entourage's FRB, but also their spouses'. The loyalty, even love, they had for Mr. Packer was simply amazing.
