I'll be in Vegas for a week in early November. Staying Downtown most of the time. Renting a car for a couple of days to visit a bunch of off-site casinos and thinking about riding up to Mount Charleston. Just 40 miles and might be a good diversion from the casinos. Not looking at spending any real time up there. Just a drive and then hit Red Rock casino for a little lunch. Has anybody driven to Mount Charleston, and how was it?

Mt. Charleston is a nice diversion from gambling. Worth the drive? Some would say no, but if you like the southwest mountain/desert scenery I'd say it's worth the trip. No much to do. Some very nice homes up there and one stop I'd suggest would be the lodge/restaurant up there for a Baileys and coffee.

Being as it will be Nov. I'd also suggest a jacket or sweater. Regardless of what the temps are on the desert floor of Vegas, they can drop by 10 degrees or more on Mt Charleston.

Took a drive up there at the end of May one year and it was snowing! It was really to strange to see several inches of snow on the ground and temps in the 30s when it was near 100 on the strip. Stopped in the little restaurant/lodge they have and had a drink. I think it is worth the drive.

Optimal time to visit Mt. Charleston is in the summer. The drive is so-so, but certainly a diversion from the neon of Vegas.
I go there quite often, but not for the drive. I take advantage of the excellent hiking options.

I've done it twice. Once in August and the temperature difference was very welcome. The other time was in early winter and the snow was nice. When I went in the summer I did the easiest of hikes. It was very relaxing.

I was there in mid June. I was pleasantly surprised by the scenery and would go back. If you are just going to drive around (no hiking) set aside 2 to 3 hours.

I've also done a day trip up there twice. I like the diversion and seeing the snow for a bit. There is a great little lodge up there to grab a bite and take in the whole ski lodge ambiance. Was going to do the whole hiking thing last time even brought shoes for it but the weather didn't cooperate. One of these times I'm going to spend a day or two up there.
