    We are thinking about spending one night downtown. We have reservations at the Cosmopolitan for five nights, but always enjoy a day or evening downtown so thought we might stay there one night. What is your favorite downtown casino/hotel? We are not Luxury hotel only people and realize downtown is a whole different atmosphere than the strip. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. I like to stay up later than husband and gamble in the hotel we are staying at, so want to feel "safe" returning to our room alone.

    Hello,

    I suggest Main Street Station. This is a friendly property and is easy to go to your room from the casino floor.
    Good luck.:beer::beer:

    Sold out

    MSS sold out October 19. So are some of the hotel/casinos in areas like Hendersonville. Wonder what is going on that weekend. Second suggestion.

    Well the undisputed class of DT is the Golden Nugget. Their new Rush Tower is supposed to be very nice. I've stayed in the Gold Tower and the rooms are very nice except a undersized bathroom. Both Gold and Rush towers are located very close to the casino floor.

    Hello again,

    The Four Queens is good, too. Price is about $120 for 10/19.
    Good luck.:beer::beer:

    Golden Nugget is very nice and while the Rush Tower is more luxurious, I think any of the rooms there are nice - probably best of downtown

    I don't think you'd want to stay anywhere else coming from the Cosmo, other than the Golden Nugget. It is the best hotel dt has to offer by far as far as rooms, restaurants, amenities etc. I stay there every trip to Vegas, but I never gamble there except the $5 roulette they have early in the a.m. The comps suck, machines are tight, vp paytables suck, and most of their blackjack rules suck also. I gamble everywhere else dt. Considering the Golden Nugget location, you could gamble at the 4 Queens, Fremont, Binons, Golden Gate, Las Vegas Club and still have a very short and very safe walk back to your hotel room. Hope this helps.

    I agree. We play VP and don't lik playing at GN but a very nice place to stay. The downside is if you want to play at your own hotel at the end of the evening you could lose a bunch at GN.

    Yeah, I'm resigned to the fact that I really will never get any good offers from them, other than what they send every 24 Karat Club member, my play there just doesn't warrant it. Nor will it ever. The gambling there is as bad or worse than anything on the Strip. Booking direct, budgeting properly, and the Landrys Card are about all I can do to lessen our costs staying there - which still blows even the lower tier Strip properties outta the water.. I've had good luck with upgrades there, love the restaurants and bars, the pools, and the rooms so it kind of evens out for us.

    I am anxiously waiting to see if The Grand gives the Nugget a run for its money. It may be open to reservations by October 19th.

    If you're only playing slots, or if you're playing $25+ blackjack, or playing 3-card poker, then the Nugget is what you want. Otherwise, you'll be gambling at other casinos.

    The Golden Gate is fun, but the 'regular' rooms really are too small for a couple. (I hear the suites are quite nice).

    I like the Fremont a lot, but I'm never sharing a room there, and the bathrooms are quite small...but for easy casino access from the room, nothing beats 'em.

    For room-size, casino access & playable low-limit games? I'd have to suggest Plaza or 'theD'... but I've also read right here at VMB that the cabana suites at the El Cortez are very nice...but they are not connected to the casino at all.

    So - bottom line?
    I would call the Fremont & ask for two adjoining king rooms. Yes, seriously!
    Combined, your costs will be about the same (or less) as the Nugget for one room. If you're feeling frisky, the rooms are adjoining, so have it! (then move to other bed for actual sleeping!)
    If it's just going to be an 'eat-gamble-shower-sleep-gamble' visit, you'll be able to return to the empty room, shower and hit the sack without disturbing the husband.

    Let us know how it goes.

    Booked

    Booked Gold Deluxe at GN. It sounds like we will enjoy the pool area too. Wasn't cheap though. $200 with tax. It is a Saturday though. If the new one opens we will look into it. Thanks for all the input and especially about GN casino. I do always seem to lose there! So what is your favorite casino on Fremont street?

    I stay at the Golden Nugget, Rush Tower. The room is better than the standard room at Mirage.

    The bartop VP machines are tight, I agree. The other forms of gambling, especially BJ, have been good to me.

    The beauty of DT is the ease of moving from place to place. That, plus where else can you see a hot young thing in heels, thigh high fishnets and a garter belt just walking down the street?
