I'm not necessarily talking about flashy dressy jewelry. What if you're a man and your daily watch is an Omega Seamaster costing IDK maybe $2,000+?

or a woman who has a nice big diamond wedding/engagement ring that she normally wears daily?

Would you leave those at home?

The point of having nice things is to wear them.

In the rare chance that something happened, you'd see how good your insurance is.

People wear bling all the time in all of Vegas. Who knows what is real.

    Just like anywhere, be aware.

If you leave the nice stuff home you'll regret it when you see others dressed up. Go and feel good about yourself.

the wedding ring is what it is, but at least for my family for a number of relationships it has always been a wedding ring and engagement ring that are smaller and fashioned for every day wear and then other jewelry that is larger/flashier/more delicate for special occasion wear

I understand that heirlooms can be large, some brides just have to have "the rock" and the like and more power to them, but for my family and for me (if it ever happens) she will have to understand that "the rock" is not going to be the wedding ring or engagement ring and honestly the better pieces of jewelry will probably be stones other than diamonds

as for the Omega I would say that is a wearable watch really because that is just not a "brand" that is attractive

I would be more concerned with a $2,000-$3,000 Bell and Ross or something similar

sometimes it is as much about what the watch says about you to the predator as the real total worth or especially the actual quality of the time piece.......flashy often can equal careless or care free or running around with large amounts of cash or other flashy items

a more reserved watch like an Omega can often times equal less likely to be careless and loaded with other items like the newest electronics and lots of cash...criminals that really do look to mug people and target people pay attention to those types of things......just like a car you drive.....take a less valuable car and load it up with rims and tires and stereo equipment and I would bet it attracts as much or more attention than a more expensive car that is more stock especially if the more expensive car is less common overall because there is also the factor of how easy it is to sell parts which is why Ford trucks are so popular to steal even more so than many BMWs or Mercedes and if you put rims and stereos on that Ford truck you can bet it will be at the top of the list to take

an Omega sports master is just not a watch that you lure people in to buy/victimize also VS other similar priced (and less quality) watches

I'm *not* into the bling or fancy watches - in fact I haven't even worn a watch in years.

That being said, I've walked on the Strip and DT with 5k+ in my pocket and never gave it a second thought. I really don't worry that much about my safety in Vegas. Certainly, I keep my eyes open and don't wander down dark streets late at night - common sense things.

In reference to Gino's mention of poor neighborhoods in NYC during Koch era, when I worked in the city, a co-worker who'd been living there since the mid-80s told me he used to keep a $20 bill in his shoe in case he got mugged. I said "So you had money to get home?". He said "No. To give to a mugger so they wouldn't kick your ass for being broke.". And I recall going into the city with friends to see the Zeppelin laser light show at the Hayden Planetarium and we got a real Checker cab with the fold-down seat. Watching the streets pass by was an eye-opening experience back then.

Be more worried about an iPhone

Not to derail this topic but I would be more worried about someone doing a slap and grab of an expensive phone than stealing a watch these days.

    lol yes, Zombies too!

Around Flamingo/Bill's at 1am+, way worse than downtown...

There are a lot of LVPD, & Fremont St. security on Segways, Downtown.

Flamingo/Bills(no Police & no Security) Zombie Hookers (Ashy Crackhead lips), Drug dealers, Bangers, that will do anything for money/take a bite out of your ear, Mike Tyson style.

Let's not forget kick me in the Nuts for $20 guy!.

When my grandfather passed away, he left me his jewelry, which is a vast collection of gold rings, diamond rings, chains, bracelets, loose diamonds etc. He passed away in 1999, I keep the jewelry in a safety deposit box. The only time I retrieve any of it is for special occasions, and trips to Vegas. Usually what I take out of there for a desert trip includes a 1980's Piaget Classique dresswatch - solid gold -, and a 4 ct diamond nugget mens ring that looks like something Elvis or Liberace would wear. I wear this stuff daily while I'm there. Up and down Fremnont day and night, the Strip everywhere. Never been an issue or felt unsafe. Most of the people who commented were/are dealers and bartenders..I'll post pics of it when I do a semi live TR while were there in November...

I'm also a 6'1" and 265 lb (will be lighter in November) and look like a character out of Goodfellas. I used to carry concealed while in LV (Nevada stopped reciprocity with Florida concealed carry back in 2010 for some dumb reason) and I realized that's more of a hassle, and a not necessary pain in the ass and stopped.

Again, this is not an issue you should worry unnecessarily over.

You either wear expensive jewelry or you don't IMO. I shouldn't matter what part of Vegas you are in. Personally, I don't even pack my more valuable items no matter where I travel. And I have more fears of being held up on a strip walkway than I do downtown.

My engagement ring kind of catches on stuff so I'm guilty of not wearing it all the time. It also doesn't fit right now due to weight gain. I used to wear my old wedding band all the time though. It had channel set diamonds. Then one day, I'm washing my hands at work and I notice 2 of the diamonds were gone from my wedding band. I didn't get it repaired. It was kind of mis-matched with my engagement ring anyway, so I didn't bother. I bought a plain band that matches my engagement ring better to wear as a set. And I bought a nice, wide, plain wedding band for every day. It's actually a men's band. No diamonds on my every day band. I got it blessed so it's all legit.

In the 50's when my parents got married, it was common for brides to get a 3 ring set. A nice diamond wedding set and a plain band for every day wear. That's what my mother had. I think that's a good idea.

The obvious thing on a woman is her engagement ring. And the obvious stuff on a man is his watch. But, most people have other nice pieces of jewellery they wear for different occasions, with different outfits. I think the point of having it is to wear it.

As for wearing stuff in Vegas. Hells yeah! Flaunt it if you got it. That's what Vegas is about. And like some previous posters have said, who knows what's real in Vegas. It's not like the lighting is perfect for spotting real vs fake bling.

I'm sure there are places you would be best not to wear your good stuff but those are situations nobody should be in to start with. If you've got my home value in jewellery out loose in your room and you get a hooker in there, I'm not going to be worried for myself because you got trick rolled. And if you get held up by that really honest looking drug dealer, I'm not going to fear for my own safety. I don't do drugs and I don't deal with hookers. I'm pretty sure I'm safe wearing my good jewellery in Vegas.

I stay downtown so I wear my most expensive watch....my Timex. No sense worrying about being robbed. I used to buy $ 5.96 watches from WalMart but the bands didn't last so I got extravagant and paid $35.

Honestly, when I go to LV I carry no valuables. I carry regular clothes which can be replaced easily if lost or stolen. I don't brin a camera....one less thing to keep track of! Of course, now, I can use take pics with my cell phone if necessary. I bring toiletries, my cheap razor, a bottle and can opener, snacks for on the plane and several dvd's. The most expensive thing I carry is my laptop or dvd player. Both are old and never leave my person. If I was robbed, or room broken into it would be an inconvenience for sure, but wouldn't be expensive.

I did lose my underwear once though. Housekeeping mistook my dirty laundry bag for towels and linens and I lost 3 sets of new underwear.

No rings or chains for me and I've never worn a watch everyday so when in Vegas or on vacation is when I am wearing my semi nice watch. BTW, I'm way more concerned with one armed bandits then thugs.

I will add that when In Vegas I don't use a wallet in my back pocket but a money clip in my front pocket.

Can happen anywhere and there are always outlier problems. Some people will read about a single problem and assume it's happening a lot. You know, hey I read some kid had his phone taken from him. No way am I walking around there with my phone.

Not saying that....just that maybe I-phones are big targets these days. I don't have one. I don't think anyone would want to steal my cell phone :)

    Stop a pickpocket

Put 1 or more rubber bands around your wallet. Makes it hard to slide outof your pocket. Keep an extra Govt issued picture ID and credit card in hotel safe incase rubberband dose'nt work. Copies of front and back of credit cards in the event you need to cancel them.

Well I also don't like sitting on it so a money clip holds CC, DL and room key along with my money.

I leave the good stuff home. No need to worry about it, and not worried about impressing anyone (wife already hooked).

Out late downtown there are characters and streets I don't want to walk by with expensive jewelry on. If you're worrying about it, then why have a worry there.

Most people, even if they know the name, wouldn't know if your omega was worth $100 or $2000.

    Have fun and good luck.
