What's the deal with places offering casino rate until you establish your play?

Back in the day they could get information on your play from other properties even if they didn't own them.

VIP isn't taking risks on even a comp room now???

It's generally a decent discount... frankly, I don't blame them after reading so many posts here of people staying at one place and playing at another and other "creative" schemes to get free stuff. Players are out to get whatever they can and properties are trying to defend or protect the bottom line.

Ya but let's be real here. What is a room costing them, provided someone stiffs them? It's not like they are at 100 percent occupancy.

Well if they gave everyone a free room like you are asking with no known past play, then they would be at 100% occupancy and those that they know will play can't get a room. Yes, you are only 1 person, but if they did it for the thousands of others, they don't even have a room to offer you at casino rate.

They just don't like taking risks anymore. The benefit of luring you away from other hotels just isn't worth it to them anymore it seems. I'm sure there are levels of play where this doesn't apply.

I know a number of people who would be happy to get a free room at Venetian and walk to Harrahs or Ballys to gamble.

Hell, sign me up. I heard their rooms are awesome. :wink2:

It is a business. Giving away rooms with a promise is well....

As to getting information from their competition. There are many reasons this is not done so much anymore. We have gone privacy nuts in this country to start with. And, do you really want your best players to go somewhere else?

In case you have missed it, lots of people have been known to go to Vegas and not gamble. It is hurting their business model.

Come on. Simple business logic is at play here.

sounds more like you overestimate your play and what you deserve. there's plenty of people who call up and get a free room/suite with no play history.

It's hard to blame them, especially in an environment where occupancy rates and ADRs are improving, if only marginally.

I'd just get the host to commit to a "number". If you know you'll play that much, you're good. If you know you won't...then I guess you've answered the question.
