Weekday or Weekends?

Me? I haven't done a weekend in Vegas in many years.

I prefer Sunday-Thursday (or Friday).

 

For the vibe its weekends, for being comfortable and wander around, exploring the city i prefer weekdays.

 

My upcoming solo trip will be the first one without a weekend in several years. Most trips are for a least 7 nights to help justify airfare; plus Ms. Gecko, who has a real job, still cares about such things as vacation time. To be totally honest, I couldn't decide if I even wanted to go at all in September or if I wanted to stay for 10 nights or longer. Therefore, five nights seems like a good compromise. But if I had to pick just five nights, I'd rather do weekdays.

 

I prefer weekdays because it's less crazy. But my ridiculous employer prefers that I go to work weekdays.

 

I have never done a weekday trip before, but I'm actually doing my first next month. I'm a little worried because the action is pretty slow during the day even on the off-weekends I usually go, so during the week I'm worried it'll be completely empty and I'll be playing by myself every day. we'll see.

 

Prefer Mon-Thu but any day works for me.

 

Like a previous poster, I too like the vibe of larger crowds on weekends. Fremont Street is just not the same if it's slow. And, they bring in the bigger bands I want to see on weekends.

I don't get it. what's so great about mid-week? what can you do mid-week that you can't do on weekends? or on the flipside, what is there on weekends that you don't like?

 

I like both. I know, pick a side. But hear me out.

I don't like the crowds on the weekends. I'm usually up early walking the strip around sunrise and in my room by 9pm. So, most times weekdays are better for me.

With that said, I plan my trips in the fall for one reason. Football. My fall trips usually run around 10 days, just to get two full weekends of football into the trip.

If I was to go to Vegas for 3 or 4 days outside of football season, it would be weekdays all the way.

 

I've been a mid-week guy now for over 15 years.
A few trips have included a Saturday night, and I spent that night playing 3-card and hitting the sack early, so as to get a very early start on Sunday morning.

There is still plenty of people-interaction to be found mid-week, so it's not like the casinos are empty or something.
But to the point - here are my top-ten reasons for preferring mid-week:
1. Lower table limits virtually everywhere.
2. Far easier to find a seat at a decent blackjack table.
3. Shorter lines at food establishments.
4. Fewer incidents with drunk people starting fights or causing other trouble.
5. A generally "older" crowd, meaning over 30.
6. Room comps on offers always include Sun-Thu; they often do not include Fri-Sat.
7. Cocktail service at the tables is a bit better.
8. Airfare tends to be a bit lower when flying out Sun-Wed, and when returning Wed-Fri.
9. Fewer people on the streets hitting you up for money, or to make sales pitches.
10. More days off from work!

 

i go during both but i like weekdays better because i get better comps and less crowds but still a lot of people all having a good time. it is more relaxed and everything i can do on weekends i can do on weekdays just better

 

I like to do a Tuesday or Wednesday arrival and leave on Saturday night. You get the weekday advantages but you also get that Friday night which is sort of the weekend and things start hopping.

Flying Tuesday/Saturday gives you cheaper airfare too.

 

Over the last 15 years I've always done Sun-Thu/Fri trips. Never a weekend and never ever EVER around a major holiday or major conventions. I try to plan my trips for the unbusiest times.

In an effort to have longer trips, I often have to incorporate expensive weekends (no/low comps and all).

I have found a $7 Saturday at Quad before and a $22 Saturday at LVH, but most times a good deal on a weekend is $40 (usually off-strip). The average rate on a weekend is $80-150 even at less expensive hotels. I do a load of research to find inexpensive weekend nights.

I do not know if I want to take the big leap and start taking shorter trips (I am coming all the way from the east coast after all and want to make the time worthwhile). But I could easily work a little magic and pay $100 total for 5 days in Vegas Sun-Thurs.

I find myself these days ignoring the few comps that I do have in favor of paying so that I do not end up "owing" these properties more than I am willing to spend. I only use comps when I am prepared to play enough to secure them and most times I just do not want those kind of restrictions. I need to be able to casino hop with my money.

That's all to say that I really do enjoy weeekends. That's a time that the Strip comes alive. The weekday is so peaceful and I love it too. I love the feeling of having my playground to myself. But the energy is purely electric on weekends particularly mid-Strip. However, the trade-off of being in Vegas on weekends is that I usually have to stay off-strip, which defeats the purpose.

When I stay off-strip, I find myself inside my hotel more often, leaving the Strip a lot earlier than the night time (when it truly comes alive) in order to be safely inside my hotel, and I find myself taking more taxis when I am off-strip than when I am on-Strip (which completely eliminates walking the Strip and soaking up the amazing vibe...as an activity all its own).

So, then the question for me becomes, do I really get to enjoy the weekends in Vegas as much as I can? The truth is, no. Strangely, because I am off-Strip on most weekends, besides the occasional trip to the Strip at night, the weekends feel like weekdays. I may get longer trips but it's primarily just "extended" weekdays.

This may not be the same case for people who stay off-strip on weekends because they may feel more relaxed staying out late on the Strip even when they are off-strip for a variety of reasons. I have a lot more things to consider and being able to just roll out of my bed on the Strip and enter nightlife and exit at will is a commodity for me on the weekend.

I nevertheless enjoy nightlife all night long on weekdays though. Could I say I have no preference? I am not sure I have a right to have an opinion on this. I have not truly experienced enough "weekends".

But I am reconsidering long trips for expenses reasons and because I go for the weekend to experience the vibe but 9 times out of 10 I am not around for this vibe. lol

 

It's not that dead. I guess it depends on what you play. Slot players probably do not notice lol.

 

I'm a fan of the excitement and energy that comes along with big crowds, so I always include a weekend in my trip. The one long trip I took for the wedding/honeymoon (11 days), I made sure to schedule it to include two weekends. There are, of course, downsides to the big crowds that I don't enjoy, such as having trouble finding a chair by the pool. But I'd still rather have to take my time finding a couple loungers and then be surrounded by people drinking, talking, and having a good time than be alone out there. Perhaps it's because I'm still "young" (a relative term, of course).

Same goes for the casino. I'm a casual low-roller who enjoys many types of games, so I don't NEED to find a particular seat at a particular table or machine. I'd rather be surrounded by the sights and sounds and energy of a full casino where everyone's winning and losing and having a blast on their vacation than be walking through and empty room playing against myself or quietly listening to my machine take my money. That's not relaxing to me, it's depressing.

And being in Vegas on the weekend also makes me feel even more care-free about keeping a buzz going all day while I play and wander since I'm still usually on the conservative level compared to a lot of people you see walking around. When it's a dead late morning/early afternoon on a weekday in the casino and you're buzzed and sipping on a drink at the bar playing VP, it makes me feel like a degenerate, and I don't wanna feel guilty about ANYTHING when I'm on vacation in Vegas.

All that said, I always rent a car for my trips and typically use the weekdays to drive out to the surrounding attractions and/or recover from the festivities.

 

We have been weekday people for years...that being said, we are in our upper 50s now and prefer not to have the brat pack in the neighboring room partying (IMO more likely on the weekends). We like to not have long lines at the eateries, checkin, cabs. Our only trips downtown have always been weekday mornings (talk about dead). We are from a small town and are unaccustomed to the big city lines and crowds. We are perfectly happy avoiding the weekends. The only thing we feel we are missing is that the weekends is when the big name headliners tend to be in town. I should also add that we are not patient people. Weekends require patience.
