So on my upcoming trip in September I picked up tickets to see Bill Maher who is doing a show at The Palms. This is my first time going to that casino so we are probably gonna make a night of it. I'm looking for some suggestions. Any good places to grab a bite to eat... maybe a happy hour? Or a cool bar to hang out out? We aren't looking to go to a club or hang out with the frat boy / jersey shore crowd..... does the palms still have that kind of atmosphere?

We are doing the slotplaycoupon deal at the Palms. It is $50 in free play for $25 if you haven't done it before.

The Palms buffet is an excellent value with player's card and the food is quite tasty.

thanks for some of the tips...
I think I might do the slot coupon.
I've always wanted to do ghostbar but the more I read about it, the place seems too much like a club atmosphere.

Anyone have any suggestions or comments on the bartop VP?

Stopped in one day last Sept to look through some chips to keep at the cage (When you still could) and my buddy wanted to check out the bank of full-pay VP machines. After about an hour he was up a little and I was down about $60..I like playing bartop much better anyway so hit the center bar.Same result down $60.
Then buddy comes back even or maybe down a bit from full-pay..heads to bathroom before we head back to the Rio.I threw one more $20 in and pop 4 dueces for $250 so all in all a good afternoon also picking up a few scarcer chips for the collection.
Funny but that is usually my luck at the palms..can't do anything all day and when it's time to leave or go to bed for the dreaded early morning flight home, the 4oak's start hitting..that time I recouped a few hundred in losses on the trip and managed a few hours sleep.

The Palms has an "interesting" lounge on the 52nd floor called the "View".
Set-up to be a game bar with pool tables and the like. We were there in July and the "View" covered a few paragraphs in my trip report. If you care to read it, the report is on this board under "Trip Reports, titled "MC & Palms TR Working the list". it found on page 2 of the trip report thread. Don,t let my report be the last word on the "View", the situtation could be different now. This lounge has the potenial to be just what your looking for based on your post.

Not quite .... it's $50 fsp for $25 if you are a new member of the Palms slot club.

If you are already a member, it's $40 fsp for $25.

So, either way, if you were planning on playing anyway it's a great deal!

We purchased those deals at the Palms earlier this year for 10% off. I just got another e-mail today with the Palms deal. Remember you can only use it once every 30 days.

So, I have never stayed or played at The Palms. Went in there for maybe 30 minutes about 6 years ago and left as it seemed to be filled to the brim with Massengills. Last trip couple months back I decided to give it another try but went during the day. Played some of their full pay vp and then some more vp at one of the bars. Played a little vp in the high limit room which was empty except for me and one roller. Played for a couple hours tops and left. It really wasnt my scene but it was during the day so I dont know how it is at night.

Today got an offer for 3 nights in a suite and $500 free play plus food credit. Are comps pretty easy there? I only played vp and no table games or slots and they give me what is a pretty generous offer. Is that typical? Are they hurting for business?

Palms is very free with comps Huddler; I started receiving them after attending a meet there a few years ago and always have comp offers, often with extra perks like a cabana, freeplay, etc. My last comped suite had a stripper pole in the room and a bar in the bedroom lol......seriously (still don't know who put them up to that) but the mattress was nasty so I switched rooms.

Mine didn't but now that you mention it, on the same trip I saw this old guy in the casino who was wearing a floral robe. Perhaps they were sending him to my room and the Alzheimer's kicked in and he got lost.
