I believe I have been DDB wrong for a long time,

Now understand, I play LV Strip crappy tables.

So...... no 10/7 9/7 ... Yea 9/6 stuff and worse....

I know on the two pair, with A', keep the aces.

    So here I go....... :rolleyes2:

If you have a unsuited Ak, AQ, Aj

Do you only hold the A...?

    Next......

If you have a SUITED A+high

    Do you hold Both?

    --------------

How about AHHT? As in BP?

    -------------------------------

Remember, I am playing CET pay tables, and mostly at the bar

Unsuited AK, AQ, AJ, hold the ace only and pray for 3 more of them. :)

Suited AK, AQ, AJ, hold the ace and face.

AHHT is the correct hold as well usually for 8/5 DDB. Some exceptions are when the HH is QJ suited, and sometimes KJ suited (no flush penalties). If you end up playing 9/6 or 10/6, then AK, AQ, AJ suited would also be better since the flush is worth more.

    OK, I get it!

Only hold the unsuited A and pray for the rest..

This really hurts, holding the A only.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

It reminds me of playing Joker poker VP.

Playing Kings or better Joker poker is fun....

But I did end up playing a few versions of

    Aces or better :rolleyes2:

    -----------------------------------

That single loss of the Kings, made it a big
    looser game.

    ----------------------------------------------

So now DDB, unsuited Aces, makes me feel like I am playing
    Joker poker Aces only again.
    -------------------------------------------------

    OUCH :bang:

    ----------------------------------------------------------

But thanks, for I need the true info.

Funny this thread came up because the last few days everytime I practice on WoV, it seems like the rules change every single session for DB and DDB. Sometimes it tells me to hold straight draws on a gutshot (even on low cards) and other times it tells me to hold the high card on a low gutshot.

If you really don't like the idea of doing this, keep in mind this is somewhat of a minor error. For 8/5 DDB, it costs you a cent to a cent and a half per occurrence when max betting quarters. For 9/6 or 10/6, it is a little worse, it's closer to a cent and a half to two cents per occurrence because the flush pays more. Personally I would still recommend playing as optimal as possible, but some mistakes are worse than others. Also, when you pull 4 Aces from just holding one, it's always a nice rush. Here's an example from this year:

In the past couple months I have won by holding only one Ace a 50 cent Royal and 4 Aces with the kicker three times. I never hesitate to hold that lone bullet. Its why I play DDB and TDB.

I'm a DDB convert as well and have been practicing to master the optimal play alsol. I have no problem holding the lone ace and got the hang of that pretty quickly. The part that really baffles me is when I have Ace plus two non-suited face cards and it tells me to discard the Ace and keep the two face cards. That just hurts my head! I'm also still getting the hang of when to go for a gutshot straight draw. I get scolded for not making that hold a lot by my trainer app.

Pulling a straight miracle drawing three, with two or more ways to do it, and two high cards to boot, has enough oomph sometimes to overcome the ace in DDB. When the flush pays 6, then you should hold the Ace over KJ and KQoff most of the time though. If it pays 5, then KQ/KJoff may be better with the right amount of flush/straight penalty cards. QJoff is almost always better than an Ace because there are 3 ways to make the straight. This is a tough decision point to get correct 100% of the time, but at least each one of these errors is worth little. Strategy wise, JoB or Bonus is significantly easier, imo.

Thanks for expounding on that. I can usually draw up the rationale in my head just by knowing the right play but this one was giving my brain trouble. I kinda was suspecting what you stated much more clearly. I'm much better at learning the reasoning behind the right calls than I am at memorizing them. I know JoB might be easier, but that's what makes DDB so fun.

OK, I have been doing the Ace unsuited for a long time. But at least I got the Ace Suited part right.

I am quoting the above, for it gives me encouragement to hold the single unsuited Ace. This is going to take time to adjust to, since I am mostly a Bonus Poker or Duces Wild Player.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

On my last trip to Vegas, I played only Duces Wild or DDB on a five night stay at the 25c max bet level.

I have read about people going on a full Vegas trip, and not getting a single
"Anything" Quad" their entire trip....... Well, it happened to me the last trip.

Not a single Quad, notta, nothing, zip, zero! :grrr:

And to make it worse, in Duces Wild, not a single Royal with a Duce (125 credit payout). Really... REALLY .. :grrr:

VP was a total money loser. And I was totally down, down, down on the money, entire trip.

Then I made my money back to a break even + a just a little ahead.:peace:

Where I made my money back... :ssst:

Last night before flight home.. 3 card poker, on the Straight Flush with a bet on the Pair Plus.

Then on the next last afternoon day waiting to go to the airport, and at a side stop at Paris, $628 on a Hot Hot Super Shot by the door next to the strip.

Then after that at Paris, same area, another $383+ win on a slot = above my $1200 trip buy in budget. :nworthy:

This is the third trip to Vegas, and for the first time, not a loser.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Now understand, on a 5 night stay, I only gamble 4 nights. So that is only $300 per night.

But I got wiped out on VP. :vomit:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

So next time I am going to mix up my VP between DDB and just OL plain and safe Bonus Poker (can't do JOPB, too boring)...... some 3 Card, and some slots to balance it all out. :woot:

Thanks to all that have replied.

OK, I finally get it, but it took a while..

I am a big fan of Duceses Wild.

The big in this games is:

If you have a single Duce and nothing else, then hold the single Duce.

    SOOOOOOOOOOOOO:

It is like in DDB....... If you only have the ACE, and there is a off suite
face card, like in Duces, the face card means nothing, garbage.

OK, I think I can adjust to only holding a Ace and letting all other face cards go.

But it is still an adjustment.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Now just to round it out, on DB, I still hold the A + off suite face cards, right?

A couple days ago I kept A- J suited and received 3 more aces on the draw for 1600 credits(4 aces with a kicker)...that's what I'm talking about!

On Super Double Double Bonus? Nice one! Always good when the 1 in 16,215 pull come in.

Also that game at 6/5 pays better than 8/5 DDB (which is typical crap Strip payouts). I don't know if I have stumbled across the game on the Vegas strip though. But it's one of the better nickel games in my area (St. Louis) and Hollywood St. Louis offers 8/5 Super DDB for quarters.

    Exactly...:nworthy:

Plus if you watch the cards, you'll be surprised at how many times that unsuited J you throw away, lets an Ace pop up in it's place. Bottom line is it's the correct hold based on the numbers/probability.
