Legal to costume on the strip?

Hello guys, I'll actually be passing through Vegas myself on the way to Los Angeles, and one of the things I plan to do just for the fun of it is I'm bringing my Batman Begins suit along with me. All of the armor was handmade, and the cowl itself is FX grade silicone. I figure I have a long layover I might as well make the best of it.
Anyways I wonder if anyone could tell me if it's legal to costume on the strip, or if a permit is required? The one thing I can say for sure is that I won't be doing this for tips, I'll be doing it entirely for fun and free. If anyone tries to give me a tip I'll deny it. So not sure if that makes any difference on the law of being out there wearing a character outfit since I just want to do this for fun.

 

People dress up in weird shit all the time so I don't see why there would be a problem with you walking around as Batman.

 

Is it too snarky to suggest you wait for Halloween? I can't imagine wanting to stand out on Las Vegas Boulevard when it's 100 degrees out in a silicone costume. Wow.....just wow

Of course it's legal, and if you want to beg for tips that's legal too. Just curious, what's so great about dressing as batman? I dress as jean luc picard...that's much cooler.

 

@luvstp- I would but this is probably going to be the last time I travel though Vegas, haven't been in about 20 years. Only the cowl is silicone the rest is another material. But I've worn worse in hotter temps. I wore a fully armored outfit in the middle of July for a convention no sweat.
@merlin- To be honest I had no interest in doing Batman costuming until I won this cowl on a Facebook contest a little while back. I've been doing costuming for about 18 years or so now, started out doing it with the SCA in UT and it branched out from there.

So... traveling from somewhere to Los Angeles...
You have a layover in Las Vegas...
Don't want to just stay at the airport...
Don't want to tourist about the Las Vegas strip...
Don't want to just go hit up one of the casinos and gamble for a little bit and have a couple of drinks...
Don't want to go hit up a bar or restaurant or something like that...

Of course none of that, you want to go hang out on The Strip, dress up like Batman, which is something you could just do at home and of course you aren't going to be soliciting tips...

And of course you are a brand new user to the board...

For trolling that is pretty lame, though I will say it is a bit original and not just the old "kids in Vegas" fallback that most use.

 

@Auggie- I'm not travelling by plane, but via Greyhound, I have a fear of flying. If I can I'll be doing the tourist bit on the strip as well as gambling. Doing the costume but it's going to be for the fun of it but it's not all that I'll do while I'm there. And the main reason of this topic was only to find out if it was legal or not.

 

You should be totally fine with it ... just don't end up on Vegas Strip with the cops

 

I think there are better ways to find out if something is legal or not.

That being said. Your dream day in Vegas isn't on my bucket list. But, I don't think we should judge. Lord knows we've heard some doozies right here on this board. If that's what you want to do and you're OK with hauling that gear, then that's what you should do. I might suggest that Fremont Street Experience is closer to the bus depot. That might be easier and a time saver for you. Live and let live. Have a good time.

Legally, the costume bit is O.K. on The Strip. There's been rumblings the cops may someday enforce copyright issues - but that's only on the horizon.

When it comes to money, you cannot legally request payment in any form for services rendered without a permit. That includes asking for tips. However, the legal way to get around that is to tell people, if they ask, something to the effect of, "If you want, you can donate $2 for a picture with me." Technically, people can pose with a costume character and the character has no legal recourse if the people don't pay. I'm not saying that's right - and I'd expect some pretty strong reactions if characters get stiffed.
