    Boulder Station Trip Report

Running quickly through games I covered in the trip reports of Texas and Palace Station, here at Boulder Station I found twelve double-deck blackjack games with rules DA/DAS/H17 and limits $5-$1000 and two six-deck shoe games with rules DA/DAS/RSA/H17 and limits $3-$1000. Worth noting is there were two-tables each of Super Fun 21 Single Deck and Two Super Fun 21 Double Deck but neither was open. Also not open was their two Baccarat tables and a Seven Card Thrill table. What was open was their famous $3 min 10x odds craps, and their 0.50 denomination roulette which I’m still loving due to having always known table games to have $1.00 betting increments.10 number at fifty-cents each makes $5 low limit roulette a bit more exciting to me.

The final area worth commenting on from my Boulder Station trip is Pai Gow. Here I found both games Station Casinos are famous for in their three networked progressive Pai Gow Poker tables, and single game of Emperor’s Pai Gow (the table that offers a side bet on being dealt a Pai Gow), but also found a unique game I hadn’t previously played in Las Vegas “Commission Free Pai Gow Poker”. How this game works is if you play the bonus no commission is taken, so long as your main Pai Gow bet is not more than 4x the bonus bet.

Pai gow bonus bets have a steep house edge.

At JW Marriott and both Cannery casinos, true commission free pai gow has no commission with the house edge being that dealer queen high pai gows results in a push.

I believe you are still better off playing paigow that has a commission.

I know why casinos are putting in the no commission game, just don't think it is to help players.

    You are right.At $15/hand , 60hands/hour, and 10 winning hands/hour, the savings are 10x$15x0.05=$7.50/hour
as for bouns bets: $4/hand ,60 hands/hour,at 15% house advantage, you donate to house=$4x60x15%=$36/hour.
But a lot of people place bouns bet each hand anyway.

Numeno - Doug ran the math for the Boulder Station version, but for the Queen high version the odds are slightly improved in the players favor and are offered to attract players to the mostly locals played casinos.

I'm typically skeptical about any side bets or gimmicks as well and won't play until I learn the odds. I saw an STP (Super Time Pay) video poker game but didn't play because I thought the odds would likely be in favor of the house, but after further research based on posts here, I learned it is the better game.

I don't believe that the "EZ Pai Gow" game at Boulder Station has any bonus requirement for not getting charged commission on a winning hand. It's the "all hands push if the dealer gets a Queen-high PaiGow hand" that waives the commission. They're giving up the commission in exchange for not paying you on a normally winning hand if the dealer gets a Queen-high PaiGow. I typically play a $5 bet, $2 bonus and $1 on the progressive. Other players were not playing any of the sidebets. There was no commission taken out of anyone's hands while I was playing there.

I'm not a big fan of the EZ PaiGow game at Boulder, partly because of the lower Progressive amount on that table, and I don't like using the meter for betting the Progressive bet. I only play that PaiGow version because I like playing with one of the dealers (Roger) who usually has that table during the day shift at Boulder.

I was told previously that that particular game was invented by a couple dealers from Sunset Station and that one table for "EZ PaiGow" is in each of the Station properties.

Ah yes, I was wrong. I knew it was a worse bet in ideal situations, but that requires the player to bank.

Regular Paigow - 2.73% House Edge
EZ Paigow - 2.47% House Edge

You can bring down the edge on regular paigow by banking, but very few people do this.

So I guess great game if you can find it. :)
