We always bet on the Lions to win the Super Bowl because we enjoy making the sportsbook guys laugh. We're heading to Las Vegas this weekend and a former co-worker wants me to put a bet on the Lions to make the playoffs. I've never seen this bet. Is this possible? If so, where would I go? His back-up bet if it isn't is the Lions to win their division, but if this bet can be made, I might consider throwing a ten on it too.

A bet on them to win the NFC North is probably just as good. If they win the North, they're in the playoffs.

Just as an aside, I do not see how Oakland making the playoffs is +1000 and the Jets is only +650. There must be some serious NY action on that line. AFC east is a better division on the whole than the West and the Jets are just going to be awful. I'm not saying the Raiders will make the playoffs, but I am surprised by that line discrepancy

But this isn't taking wildcards into account, right? These are the Lions we're talking about... :)

Betting NY, Pitt, or Dallas and you're always paying a price. Notre Dame, too, BTW. It's just the book trying to get even money both ways, as you know.

The lions have a good chance at making the playoffs. With the addition of Bush at RB that gives them an explosive back and a power back in Leshour. As long as stafford can get the ball spread around and not focus on megatron every pass play they have a good chance and with the injury to the packers OL I got a feeling rodgers might be on his back more than he likes and the loss of jennings it could be a 10 win season for GB. The lions have a shot and I cannot see the vikings or bears being much of a threat. The lions making the playoffs is a decent bet. I would consider putting a few dollars on it.

Good post. Yes, John Q Public loves to bet heavy on those teams. Which is why I plan to take the Temple Owls in the opener against ND at the end of this month.
