Yeah, trying to make losing still sound interesting is definitely a challenge.

But I also get more out of the reports myself when I feel like the writer is being honest; Natedog comes to mind. So I tried to force myself to be up-front about the details even when they hurt to remember.

(all of them only along the stretch from Harrah’s to Paris, in fact)

(first time in a long time that I wasn’t directly propositioned while playing the $1 slots after midnight)

(Lots of very tall kids were hanging out near the forum shops all weekend, probably because there was an AAU tournament in town)

Gigantic limos in the bus parking zone just outside the Caesars Coliseum on Sunday night at about the time that the Rod Stewart concert was due to let out: 7

Buses noticed in the bus parking zone just outside the Coliseum during the entire trip: 1

Drunks encountered: at least 50

Drunks encountered who looked like they probably had jobs: 10

Drinks encountered who looked like they were probably college kids: 38

Truly gigantic boobs: 2
(yes, the same woman had both of them)

“Hail, Caesar” heard in casino: 3

(OK, yeah, nine of them were from our party of gambling losers)

Hand-pay jackpots noticed, other than my own: 2

 

Great report! Sorry about your losses, but it sounds like otherwise, a good time was had. I've had similar losing trips.

Thanks, LVMB. Won’t start job hunting in earnest for a while because we have a vacation cruise to Alaska arranged for late-August. It is being 90% funded as a promo from CET.

I sure hope this won't be your only report as it was excellent! I've had two of my best ever Vegas naps at Cirque shows (O and Ka Ka). I often tell my staff when they describe a problem they are having that is user error "ah yes I've seen that before, that's a PEBKAC error". Problem exists between keyboard and chair

Thanks, breanna61. Having done one now, I can certainly see how to do it better if there is a next time. For example, although the chronological stream of consciousness structure was helpful in terms of remembering details, I can see that it contributed to flabby writing and repetitive content in my case.

Also, I have an even greater appreciation now for everyone who writes one of these things and, in particular, those who do them live while they are in Vegas. How do they ever get any sleep at all?

Great report, sorry about the the losing days in the great city. I have had several trips like yours but as a ham and egger my budget is not as large as yours. I will be there next week and hope to take back what you have given.
Your writing style is great and as mutch as it hurts you your trip has been enjoyable to read. I always expect big wins, but after 30+ trips, they are few I can count.

 

I hear you. I had a big winning trip early this year that probably skewed my expectations to unrealistic levels. Logically, I know that, most often, I will come home a loser.

 

As others have said, that was a great read. Sorry about the losing trip, you are among friends there for sure. I feel like the last handful of trips for us have been the same way on a smaller scale. That won't keep us from going back and giving it another yank though!

 

Great read, thanks for sharing! My last two trips were losers, but I stopped playing once I lost half my bankroll both times? Not sure exactly why I did, just wasn't feeling it?

 

I wish I had the capacity to stop like you did. But at least I slowed down a bit once I had a hand pay to make up for some of the early losses. In hindsight, I see now that my bet sizing was probably not well-matched to my intended bankroll. Even after so many trips to Vegas, I never can seem to get the estimate of money to risk per playing session quite right.

Appreciate the compliment. The time factor is the reason that I had never done one previously. Writing the report was a great distraction that helped me keep busy for a few days in my current situation. (So I guess that not having a job is good for something.)

Not sure how much time I'll have for writing once I start working again. If things don't go well, maybe I'll be back in a few months with a "porn-slappers guide to Las Vegas."

 

five months later, another Vegas trip!

For those who followed this thread previously, we will be back in Vegas on Thursday for the first time since July. We're staying four nights at Mirage, with a second room booked at Caesars for a family member.

I ended up enjoying my first report-writing experience, so I plan to take some notes during this trip with hopes of posting a new trip report soon afterward.

The intended gambling budget will be similar to the July trip, though I am sincerely hoping that I don't blow through it in such a hurry again. Will be interesting to see whether a five-month layoff from gambling produces a more sensible approach to money management -- or leads to a frenzied binge of pent-up degenerate spending.

 

Great job on the report, hope you write another one! I think the time off will help adjust your play more toward your budget. Good luck!
