    * The situation:

    I have an upcoming trip to Vegas planned... Two nights comp. stay at The Orleans, and then another 3 nights paid (via third party discounter) at Main Street Station. Both of these properties are Boyd properties, and the slot club is BConnected.

    Currently with BConnected, I am at "card score 5,376, Ruby level" and I am considering playing long enough to make Silver, which starts at 25,000 points. So figure 20,000 points to go...

    * The basic plan:

    I'm mostly a VP player and play at quarters, with some slots sprinkled in here or there. I don't plan on leaving The Orleans for about two days, and when I go downtown, I plan on concentrating my play at MSS and maybe the other two Boyd properties there (The Cal and Fremont). I'll visit other properties, but, again, I will concentrate my sessions at Boyd.

    I'll probably play 8-10 hours a day-- but mostly at quarter VP, max coins ($1.25/hand). I might play some poker at The Orleans, too, but I don't expect a lot of points for that.

    At The Orleans, I know they have 9/6 Bonus Poker Deluxe and I'll probably play that most of the time there. At MSS, they have full-pay JoB at 9/6 and I'll probably play that most of the time.

    So, figure maybe 40-50 hours of play total at Boyd properties, over 5 days. I'm not a whiz at VP and don't play lightning fast like some, but then again, I'm not going to dawdle... figure an average to slightly-above average hands per hour.

    I'd like to leave Vegas with a Silver BConnected Card on this trip. That's the basic plan.

    * My questions:

    - Is this a realistic goal?

    - If I need 20,000 more points, is this indeed $20,000 coin-in to make this happen?

    - If I rate myself at an average of 500 hands per hour on VP @ $1.25/hand, this equates to $625 coin-in per hour. Assuming I need $20,000 coin-in to make Silver, this means 32 hours of play, and certainly possible within my planned 40-50 hours of play. Is this an accurate set of calculations?

    - I've seen signs at The Cal that some full-pay machines pay only limited points, but have not seen these same signs at the machines I wish to play at The Orleans and MSS. At the Orleans, as I mentioned, I will play 9/6 BDlx slants mostly, and at MSS I love to play mostly at the bar. Can anyone comment on whether or not I will get diminished points?

    - If you were me, what sort of bankroll would you bring for this plan? Yes, I know BDlx is more volatile than JoB... But a good average figure would be nice. I can accept a 10% risk of ruin. No, I don't have visions of hitting several royals over five days (but one or two sure would be nice!), I'm just looking for some sort of average realistic predictions of what will sort of happen. I know $100 is too little, but I wouldn't need $5,000 to make the goal. There's a lot of in-between room... What would YOU bring to make the goal?

    - After getting 20,000 additional points on my card, what sort of comps would I expect to get?

    - I see that I get "slot points" in addition to "card points." Can anyone explain the difference to me? Are "card points" strictly for your level, and "slot points" are for, say, restaurants?

    - Generally, would I get better offers and more advantages to being Silver as opposed to Ruby?

    Thanks for any replies... I know some of you like BConnected a lot, and I'm trying to weigh my options to give them considerably more play.

    Your goal is realistic.

    20,000 points is $20,000 coin in.

    Your calculations are correct.

    You will get full points on those games.

    $1500 would give you about a 95% chance of success playing $20,000 coin in on Bonus Poker Deluxe.

    I would estimate you would receive offers for 2-3 nights with that play over 5 days.

    One other suggestion: On certain days of the week, certain Boyd casinos offer extra points when playing VP. Check the bconnectedonline.com web site for more info on which properties offer point multipliers and on which days.

    Also, if you have an ACG, there is a coupon in there for 5x points on the day of your choice at Suncoast. While I realize Suncoast is not on your list of places to visit, they also have 9/6 Bonus Deluxe and it's a $2, 25 minute, express bus ride from downtown.

    I know Suncoast offers 7x points on Tuesdays for VP. 15x for reel machines. I don't think Orleans has multiplier days.

    As Jimboguy said, it is an easy 25 minute bus ride to Suncoast and Suncoast is a nice place with a good selection of bottled beer!:beer:

    The OP mentioned signs at Cal about some full pay machines not paying 1 point for $1. I have played at all three of their bars and never saw such signs. Main Street, San Francisco & Dave's.

    As mentioned in another thread there are signs like this on some of the FP floor machines at MSS, but not at the bar.

    raisingoo, I am pretty sure the next level up from Ruby is Sapphire (blue). We stayed & played at MSS in May and then again in July and we are quarter VP players. We both play on my card. I reached Sapphire level the last time we were there and right away my offers at MSS improved. They are now offering me up to 4 nights free anytime, $75 in free play, and "free meals" (I'll find out about this when we go again in September, you have to go to the booth and get some kind of booklet with food coupons or something.

    It didn't take long for us to build points, but then again there are two of us playing on one card.

    So far I think MSS is treating us GREAT!

    We play 5/8 bonus, sometimes 6/9 DDB....in the back they have old school coin-droppers and some of them have progressives....sometimes we also play 5-play 5/8 quarter bonus there....

    Thanks for all your responses. What a helpful bunch! This is exactly the information I needed.

    Scot: Thanks for confirming my math. And $1,500 bankroll is probably what I will risk on this endeavor. It's good to know that I'm not looney and that someone else thinks I have a realistic plan.

    jimboguy: Hey, I forgot about the Suncoast! Yeah, I've been there once and I did use the WAX bus and the 5x coupon, and liked it... They have Sierra Nevada on tap and 9/6 BDlx right at the bar. Maybe I'll trek there, too. Also, I've never paid for a meal with points at a Boyd property, but it's good to know that I can get a discount for using points-- thanks for the suggestion.

    Joe: The 7x points on Tuesdays at Suncoast really interests me, as one of my stays will be on a Tuesday. I'm hoping that this applies to 9/6 Bdlx machines. Maybe I'll call ahead and ask. Thanks for the suggestion. As for the machines that don't pay regular points-- I did notice at The Cal there are banks of "coin droppers" 9/6 JoB machines upstairs on the mezzazine (between the bathrooms and the elevators) which are clearly marked "$4 coin in = 1 point," which, of course, accumulates only 25% the regular going rate. In the past, I didn't care, as playing these machines would slow down my gaming (have to manually feed coins, each and every hand), and it was a novelty... but with the goal in mind for my upcoming trip, I doubt I'll play these. Plus, your hands get REALLY dirty from handling all of those coins. Also, I've seen this same sign at The Fremont with other old-school "coin droppers" such as Treasure Chest machines. I suppose if they are clearly labeled, I can't blame Boyd at all if I play them and only slowly accumulate points.

    agirl: Yes, you are right, it's not "Silver" I'm going for, it's Sapphire. Thanks for the clarification on the better comps I might get. That would be indeed a step up from the offers I'm getting now.

    rayrat: Check out the website www.vpfree2.com which will tell you where the "good" VP machines are. For The Orleans, if you are interested in 9/6 BDlx at the quarter level, here is the current inventory:

    (5) 25¢ 1 Play Slant near buffet entrance - on the side of the bank next to triple play only
    (12) 25¢ 1 Play Up between Cabaret Lounge Bar and showroom
    (10) 25¢ 1 Play Up between Subway and poker room

    Note that this is 9/6 Bonus Poker DELUXE (BDlx), *NOT* "9/6 Bonus Poker" (which doesn't exist). These are two different games. Briefly, here are some differences:

    8/5 Bonus (considered full pay): 2 pair doubles your money... quad payout (with max coins played) varies, but usual paytable is as follows: 5-K is 125 coins, 2, 3, or 4 is 200 coins, and Aces are 400 coins

    9/6 BDlx (considered full pay): Very similar to 9/6 JoB... except 2 pair is a PUSH (not double your money)... extra payout for ANY quad at all, 400 coins... so at the quarter level, you win $100 for ANY quad (with max coins played)

    BDlx is attractive to me because hitting any quad is great... Also, the strategy is very, very similar to 9/6 JoB... but the problem is, 2 pair comes up more than you realize, and not getting double your wager back (only your wager back) slowly drains your bankroll unless you consistently hit quads.

    Hope this helps.

    Do you happen to know the variance to this game? I've seen it but not played.

    I can't figure out how you all get treated so well at MSS...
    I play a lot of craps there, and they basically piss on me for comps (have to BEG to get a buffet a day)
    I also play $ treasure chest there, and the best mailer I've gotten is 3 nights, no food or fsp...
    However, I luckily hit a $ royal there, but I'm quite sure I've lost triple that there, playing dice.
    Fwiw: sams town treated me much better
    Also, I'm a higher level sapphire (60k tier points)

    I've been playing there for years, my total slot points is just 2000(never used any), I do play alot of BJ($10 tables) and I've twice received recently 2 free nights plus food and free play.
    So hang in there, it may happen.

    By the way, I've never reached the second level either.

    Results from my trip (and some surprises)

    Well, I'm the OP (original poster) and I returned from my trip, and here is what happened. Note that I'm primarily a low-roller and stick to mostly quarter VP.

    * Saturday and Sunday - The Orleans

    Had 2 comped nights, plus $10 food credit. Played mostly 9/6 BDlx VP, with some slots sprinkled in, and also a little BJ and one disastrous craps session.

    I liked The Orleans, but it was odd for me to stay nearly 48 hours at any one properly (I usually like to wonder). Hit maybe 7 or 8 quads during this time, but no RSF/SF. No big slot hits. Down maybe $200 leaving The Orleans, but racked up another 5,000 points to put me at 10,000.

    * Monday - first day downtown

    Ate at the breakfast buffet at MSS (good), paid with points. Decided to visit all 13 casinos downtown for a brief visit. Did so. Then played at MSS Boar's Head Bar, for their 9/6 JoB and scratch-off promotion for several hours. Only accrued maybe 2,000 points to put me at 12,000.

    * Tuesday - SunCoast and more downtown

    Took the WAX bus to the SunCoast, early morning. Inquired immediately about 7x points and told that, yes, bartop VP would be included. Played quite a while at the bar (9/6 Bdlx), probably 4 hours. Was served a total of 7 beers during this time. When I hit 1,812 points, I stopped playing (too many frequent bathroom breaks as it was), figuring that this would be 12,684 points (1,812 x 7 = 12,684) and I would be very, very close to Sapphire, on only my third day... but...

    Went to the BConnected booth and guess what? The 12,684 points accrued by my math are just SLOT POINTS, and *NOT* CARD SCORE points. Arrgghh! I didn't know that! Basically, this gives me $12.68 in comps (food 40% off), but doesn't get me closer to Sapphire.

    Played a Star Wars slot and came out $59.05 ahead.

    Used one of those machines to check promotions and got a free lunch buffet. Used it.

    Left the property $60 poorer.

    Went back downtown and played lots more at MSS, The Cal, and The Fremont. Had dinner at The Cal (prime rib special, very good) comped, based on points. Aside from a little BJ at Golden Gate, all my play today was at Boyd properties. Ended the day only $30 poorer, and my point balance was something like 18,000.

    * Wednesday

    Figuring I had 7,000 points to go, I decided I could do it...

    MSS bar... down $90.

    Ate comped lunch at The Cal.

    Went to Fremont to play 9/6 BDlx.. quickly took $100 from me.

    Decided to bump it up to $1 VP at this point.

    Fremont +$45.00.

    California down $100. Ouch.

    Decided to go to The Strip for a few hours. WAX to Hooters... Played $10 bonus play at Hooters (up $8.75)... Walked from Hooters all the way to Bally's (needed exercise). Got beer at Bally's gift shop (used points) and drank it on the way to Ellis Island. Played 9/6 JoB at Ellis Island, noticed I had $5 freeplay... Used that and came out $3.75 ahead. Went to Tuscany and won on my BJ matchplay. Walked all the way to Venetian and got on the Deuce to The Riviera. Before going to the Riviera, I had a couple beers (used coupon to get them free) at The Clarion, and then lost $10 on a BJ matchplay at The Riv. Took bus back downtown.

    Luck would be pretty good to me at this point... playing $1 VP and some slots:

    California +$20.75
    MSS +$12.00
    California +$201 (Wheel of Fortune, spun for +$200)
    MSS +$271 (I got a *DEALT* straight flush!)

    At some point, I had a second comped meal at The Cal that day, too.

    I called it a night at something like 22,000 points.

    * Thursday (partial day)

    Woke up at 6am. Have to go to the airport in only 6 hours.

    Can I do 3,000 more points in 6 hours?

    It took me about 4 hours. Playing at MSS at $1 VP, I did so. Lucky enough to get quads four or so times. Also hit +$87.50 on a Wizard of Oz slot.

    BConnected awarded me the Sapphire card around 11am.

    Victory breakfast/lunch was at 11am when the 777 Brewpub opened. Delicious as always. The check came to $25 or so (appetizer, burger, and 2 beers), but I had enough points to cover it.

    I tallied up all my gaming and actually came out $61.68 ahead (!), plus the value of my numerous free meals over 4.5 days and also 2 free nights at The Orleans.

    ---

    Thanks for reading. Remember that "7x points" doesn't necessarily mean CARD SCORE points, but only slot points.

    If I had to estimate the time it actually took to accrue the additional 20,000 points (remember, I had 5,000 points before the trip already) with my mostly quarter-but-some-$1 action, I'd say it was indeed about 10 hours a day over 4.5 days, so figure 45 hours of play.

    Thanks for the follow-up, raisingoo. I do enjoy the Bdlx at Suncoast now that this board has turned me on to it. I'm sorry to hear about the 7x points there not leading toward your card score, but at least the slot points helped you with getting some free food. And, now that you are Sapphire, you will receive an "exclusive gift" in your BConnected account for reaching Sapphire status.

    Congrats on making the next tier and turning a tidy little profit in doing so! :nworthy:

    Congrats on doing well on the endeavor!

    But generally speaking multipliers (bonuses) don't apply to status points. One obvious exception now is CET properties.

    Sorry if my mention of the 7x points was misleading. I actually didn't pay that much attention to the promo when we lived there, but knew it was on Tuesdays.

    Glad to hear you got Sapphire card. :thumbsup:

    jimboguy: Any idea on what my "exclusive gift" for becoming Sapphire might be?

    Some other general observations about my trip, where I played the most...

    * The Orleans

    My room was very nice, better than expected. Upon checkin, I didn't make any special requests, but the clerk asked, "would you like a high floor? Or a quiet room? Or..." and I said "Umm, both." I was given room 1302 with a perfect view of The Strip.

    Larger room than expected, larger bathroom than expected. No noise at all. Minor complaint that it was all the way down the longest hall from the elevator, but, hey, I needed the exercise. I found an old candy wrapper and a small stain in the room, and on the second day, the batteries in the smoke alarm quit and it started beeping, but other than that, overall it was a good room. It was indeed quiet.

    I didn't do much there other than game and eat (and some sleep). Staff were always friendly. I did visit the pool, but only to redeem my "free beer at the poolside bar" coupon.

    I'm primarily a beer drinker and had no problem getting my regular choices of bottled beer comped-- Heineken, Guinness, Newcastle, no problem. Twice however I did order Tanqueray and tonics and while the first was good, the second was horrible. I think the bartender screwed up and a gin and seltzer water instead of tonic water. No big deal, I didn't complain. Can't win 'em all.

    I did place a sports bet (which won: N.O. Saints vs. Houston Texans) and asked for drink tickets, which I got two (2) of. Strangely enough, the fine print said 1 drink ticket would be good for a domestic beer, but it would take THREE drink tickets for an imported beer! So I was "forced" to drink a couple Miller Lites... oh well. Minor complaint, at best.

    I wasn't charged a resort fee on my comped room, either (I asked at checkin) even though the checkin packet said that the property always charges this, which was a bonus.

    The website vpfree2.com says there is no full-pay JoB at this property (boo), which made me play 9/6 BDlx. Of the three places indicated where these machines were, I could only find two. One of them-- the slant tops-- had some glare on them from the overhead lights. But, again, small complaint.

    The buffet was pretty good there. In my half-drunken haze, I forgot I paid $11.99 (minus $10 for the "food credit" which meant I only owed $2 and change, for remainder and the tax) for a "champagne buffet," but forgot to order champagne. Oh well, my fault.

    Another meal I had which seemed like a good idea was their 12am-6am keno graveyard special. For a $25 investment in a keno ticket, you would get another $10 food credit. I used this to get oxtail soup ($9.99 plus tax, I ended up owing 70 cents, plus tip). Unfortunately, my keno ticket was only a $2 winner (i.e. $23 loser).

    I'd probably stay there again if I was offered another two free nights. I'm not sure if I will be offered this again based on only $5,000 coin-in over 2 nights, but we'll see. I was honestly surprised to get that comp to begin with, as I only ran $300 through VP on my last visit there... also, the 2 free nights weren't restricted to weekday nights, and one of them was a Saturday. This surprised me.

    * The Fremont

    Again, no quarter full-pay JoB VP machines in the casino here, so I was forced to play 9/6 BDlx. I lost the most amount of money here. For some reason, I dislike this casino a little. It seemed a little too crowded, with the machines too close together. I played the least here, too.

    Drink service seemed slow. Machines seemed a little dirty.

    I wanted to play $3 BJ at one point, but the table was packed. And then I noticed it was 6:5. Nope, not gonna do it.

    One of the reasons why I came out ahead was scouting (for the most part) for full-pay games. If I played "crapjack" or VP with bad pay tables, I probably would be hundreds of dollars in the hole.

    Can't say much more good about this casino, other than it's right on the Fremont Street Experience.

    * The California

    I tried their main coffee shop restaurant and liked it so much I went back again. Good deal, good value.

    Can't get Guinness comped on the casino floor, but they will do Newcastle or Heineken. Drink service OK. The only thing I didn't like is the full-pay 9/6 JoB coin machines in the casino accrue points less quickly than usual.

    * The SunCoast

    I liked the fact that they had Sierra Nevada beer on tap at the bar (always a plus). I sat at the bar and drank this and played 9/6 JoB. It was a very open, airy property, which I liked. Though I ordered my drinks from the bartenders, I did enjoy watching the cocktail waitresses in their uniforms here (very nice).

    The buffet was also very good, and nice that it was comped.

    The 7x slot points promotion on Tuesday made up for my $2 x 2 bus rides in comp (food) dollars.

    Other than bartop VP, the buffet, and a random slot, I didn't do too much else at this property.

    * Main Street Station

    By far, my favorite. Full-pay JoB right at the bar, with a scratch card promotion. I must have received a good 10 or 12 scratch cards. Too bad all were $2 except for a single $5.

    The bartenders were quick to notice if your drink was low and immediately offered you a new one.

    The microbrews were all tasty.

    My room there was mostly positive. I was allowed to check in very early (I think it was 11:00am on a Monday). Though my choice was a king non-smoking, I was told no kings were available this early, so I accepted a 2 queen room, I think it was 1715... on the top floor.

    My view was of the Plaza and The California on the left, and the railway and the outlet mall on the right. Room was clean, but bathroom was very small. A/C unit ran nonstop during my entire stay, but other than that, room was very quiet despite being next to the elevator (didn't even hear that). The room wasn't anywhere near as large as The Orleans, but a single guy only needs so much room... Only big complaint is that the shower head was way, way too low, and I had to duck to get under it.

    I had two meals here and both were good.

    * Summary: I don't always play at Boyd properties, but this time around, it was a good time overall, and a very cheap/inexpensive vacation. I'll certainly be back in the future.

    When I first achieved Sapphire in March 2013, my "exclusive gift" was three free nights at any of the downtown Boyd properties. I had my choice of MSS, Fremont, or Cal. I chose Cal because MSS was sold out the weekend I chose to use the nights. I imagine you'll receive a similar offer, but it may be for Orleans and/or Suncoast in lieu of or in addition to a downtown Boyd property since you played at a variety of Boyd properties. You might just want to check your BConnectedonline.com account later this week or next week - I'd be interested to hear what you got.

    I like that they have Sierra Nevada on tap at Suncoast as well. Although consuming too many of them may have interfered with my Bonus Poker Deluxe decision making processes the last time I was there. :drunk:
    I was surprised to discover how beautiful the cocktail waitresses were at Suncoast.

    A $5 scratch card at MSS is a rarity. Biggest scratch card I ever got there was $3, and the rest have been $2. Still, I think it's a great promo and on a good day I will earn enough of the $2 cards to cash in and use for the day's tips. Like you said, the bartenders at MSS are quite attentive.

    Thanks again for the report. I'm looking forward to JoB at Boar's Head Bar and Bonus Poker Deluxe at Suncoast (along with lots of football watching) in a little less than three weeks.
