O.K>----so you have never been caught sleeping at your desk/job. How about being late for work and not being completely honest why you were late.

10-I dreamed that I was fired, so I didn't bother to get out of bed.

9- I had to take my cat to the dentist.

8- I saw you were not in the office, so I went out looking for you.

7- My son flushed our ferret down the toilet and I needed to tend to the ferret.

6- I stopped for a bagel sandwich, the store was robbed and the police required everyone to say for questioning.

5- My dog dialed 911, and the police wanted to question me about what "really" happened.

4- Someone was following me, and I drove all around town trying to lose them.

3- I super-glued my eye shut thinking it was contact solution.

2- I left my shoes on the porch last night so as not to wake my wife when I got home....and a raccoon stole one of my work shoes off my porch.

And the #1 craziest excuse for being late is............

    1. A prostitute climbed into my car at a traffic light, and I was afraid my wife would see her and think that I was messing around.....so I got out and left the car.

I can't relate to this thread. I worked 35 years at the same place and was late twice. Once a dead battery and the second time they shut down the freeway and diverted all the traffic to an off ramp. Unfortunately, I was already past the off ramp and had to wait until the accident was cleaned up. But, I can't wait to hear all the excuses!

The entire concept of being late is foreign to me and the way I was raised.

And to quote some one else, you damn kids, get off my lawn!!

    When I was working.....

I used to call the secretary that I might be late because of traffic. So she would
make sure to cover for me if someone asked where I was. Traffic is truly
unpredictable. And the proof was that the t.v. news and radio news do report
accidents or slow traffic on freeways and streets.

Cell phones have made a lot of difference in my life. I always carry one in case of
    an emergency.
Being late to work is a very serious problem so by using the cell phone we can
explain why a person is late for work by calling in advance.
There is no need to lie. Just tell the truth which may sound like a lie.lol.

Many years ago a co-worker didn't go to work one day because she attended
the O.J. Simpson trial. I was home ill and was watching t.v. when I saw my
co-worker in the court room watching the live trial.

My co-worker told our secretary that she didn't go to work because she was at the O.J. Simpson trial court. Our secretary didn't believe her.lol. But I was her
    witness.lol.
One of the lawyers invited my co-worker to have lunch with him and she got to
meet all of the other lawyers and the judge and O.J. She had a wonderful time.
    Unbelievable but true. LucyR.

I am lucky enough that my company runs on "FlexTime" which basically means show up when you want and get your stuff done...and get at least 80 hours in every pay period...so there is no such thing as "being late for work"

It sounds better than it is though...some people show up at 5am and leave at 1pm; others show up at 11am and leave at 7pm...so there is only a 2 hour overlap if those people need each other’s assistance...

My position requires interaction with both of these types of people...so I'm a 6 to 5 guy...oh how I wish I was paid hourly again

I was thinking the exact same thing before I even read your post. I've been working for 13 years now and I've been late 1 time in my life. I've also only called in 2 times. I can't stand people that are always late or constantly calling in sick, bunch of pussies.

I had to laugh -- one day at work --
A former Director mentioned possibly putting up
    a "Punch Ticket Clock" system.
I laughed out loud at the staff meeting.
"Everyone but me, will be late everyday...including YOU !" :evillaugh

When we are invited to someone's house and they say X time. I always say, we'll be there at X time, is that OK, or what time do you really want us to show up?
    No fashionably late for me!:poke:

Can we not just accept the quips for what they are, quips? This isn't a referendum on good timely people versus bad untimely people, or proper old standards and improper modern standards. :poke:

Not many people can say this

I only lived a mile away,it took me longer to walk from where I parked than it took me to drive most days. I was late once ,stopped to help an old lady in distress.

I went to the dentist in the morning.....

I was supposed to be at work by 12noon. When I went to my parked car in the parking lot..... another car had parked behind me and didn't leave the car key
he was supposed to leave the key in the car.

I worried about being late to work. So the parking lot guys were able to move the small car out of the way and I was able to get to work on time. WHEW!

    I hate it when.....

I arrive early for my doctor's appt. The receptionist says to me ''OH....you
are 15 minutes early!" I just keep quiet and think they should be glad that
I showed up for the appt.

I worked in the office of a construction company. A guy called in one morning and told me his truck had two flat tires when he woke up . . . and he only had one spare.

my excuses usually involve my son, or me having multiple illnesses at once, like strep, pink eye, and a sinus infection..

the effects of being a single mom and having a child who goes to daycare and picks up every damn thing imaginable.
