Knowing that taste is a fickle mistress, what buffet on or near the strip do you think is best for value/quality?

Well....on or near the strip....depends on whether you want "high end / quality" that can be a good deal for some and others prefer "regular type buffy" that they consider a "real bargain". My opinion....quality - Caesars new buffet....but is costly compared to others. We do the Buffet of Buffets and this it is cost effective for us allowing everyone to get what they like. There is an extra charge to include Caesar's buffet in this 24 hour special. Have heard that Bellagio & Wynn are not as good as they once were.....

You should receive many opinions on this one. :)

As much as I like MLife properties, the best bang for the buck for food is a late dinner at Planet Hollywood Spice buffet (purchase the buffet of buffets pass) then have breakfast and lunch at the same place. Have an early dinner for the $15 addon for bacchanal buffet.
We tried the Paris for breakfast and Rio for lunch, next time we'll just stick to Planet Hollywood.

you can find coupons or discount passes for most of the buffets if you look online or in the free magazines when you get to vegas,,also tks4tonite sells bogo or 1/2 price passes to some buffets including paris and planet hollywood which are two of the best cet buffets and also rio buffet which is the biggest in vegas. i think flavors at harrahs is a good low price buffet, most of the food isnt fancy but they have a nice spread and you will enjoy your meal.

So, you think PH is better than the Rio for dinner. I don't mean the seafood one. Also, I would have like it better if the poster had specified Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. The CET best breakfast buffet is Paris and dinner would be Rio, Harrah's and PH not necessarily in the order for dinner.

Orleans for the pure value play.

You can basically assume that the majority of the places that are similarly priced get their supplies from the same source. it would make sense that they have a limited number of suppliers for things like this.

So now its just a matter of how they cook it. Of course that is something that would be up to the cooks at the given place but we would have no way of knowing.

So basically they are all the same, its just a matter of the room, what time you get there and how comfortable you are.

Keep in mind that the higher end ones charge enough to not use the same suppliers so they can have better offerings so you really do get what you pay for with them.

This makes almost no sense. Half the restaurants in your town probably use the same suppliers. Sysco supplies to almost half a million places from fast food restaurants to top tier restaurants to schools and prisons. So the supplier in and of itself doesn't mean uniformity.

As far as "knowing" how they cook things that's the easiest part - you taste it! I assure you if you gave me and a professional chef the same bag of ingredients he'd make wildly better tasting dishes.

What's more likely to contribute to uniformity is that for the most part they have to make the same dishes and make them in mass quantities and palatable to a large audience which leads to simplicity and more focus on process rather than distinctive taste and creative dishes.

Top prize for on or near the Strip is the Palms. With a players card, lunch is something like $7.99 and dinner around $13.99.
For me, they are the runaway winner in value/quality. No one else is close.

Good post... thanks for the reminder... I have enjoyed their buffet in the past and am bound and determined to check The Palms out later this month.

Wow! I had no idea. I've never visited The Palms. You've given me reason to check it out next trip! Thanks.

    Breakfast: Gold Coast.
    Lunch: Palms and Rio.
3 PM (Dinner at lunch prices): Bellagio.
Dinner: Wynn (Not cheap, but I believe it's a value for what you get).

Off Strip: M Resort offers a great buffet at all times and Red Rock is a good Breakfast/Lunch value.

Went to the Palms Buffet in June, small and cheap. Its okay but wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. And make sure everyone in your party has a card or they charge you the regular price.

Don't know if I would call the Wynn a value play but it is good. Would consider the Rio a value play outside of my first choice the Orleans.

If you do decide on the buffet at The Palm, there is a Travelzoo offer: $29 -- Palms: Buffet Dinner for 2 w/Beer & Wine. The vouchers can be used through January 2014. They are also a Restaurant.com participant.

Never been to the palms buffet, but the PH buffet is terrific and a decent price with coupons around to be had.

As far as buffets go, often smaller is better, such as the spreads at GVR and Palms. It's easier to maintain quality when there is less to manage.
And, I disagree about the Palms being cheap. Sure, it's not at the level of Wynn or Bellagio, but solid offerings abound.
Even at lunch there is a Lebanese section, four types of Thai curries, besides everything else. It's also a fun buffet to eat at.

Should have meant cheap in price. But still not special enough for me to drive out to it.
