We are going out for our second annual March Madness trip, and I am having a hard time selecting a hotel for the group. We stayed at Flamingo last year, and the group wants a change of scenery. I am trying to talk everyone into the Mirage, but its fairly pricey for that weekend.

Between Monte Carlo and TI, what hotel has the better rooms for a basic, entry level room (2 beds). I have been in both casinos numerous times, so I am familiar with what each hotel has to offer from an amenities standpoint. We will be watching the games offsite, so the sportsbooks don't really come into play. I just need input on room quality between the two hotels (assuming price is identical). Of these two hotels, which has the better room quality? Other Thoughts? Thanks!

The standard TI room is far superior (last stay May 2013). The beds there are awesome, you have a nice bathroom and all the rooms were completely remodeled a few years ago. I got a room for my mom as well (wanted to stay at Wynn but rooms were $1,400 each that weekend for 3 nights) and she was pleased with the room.

I stayed at MC Nov 2011 on a comp offer and the room and furniture were worn (carpets, furniture banged up).

TI clerk waived my resort fee (previous stays were comped/ no fee). MC wouldn't waive resort fee on my comped room. I'd pick TI for the room assuming the prices were anywhere near similar. Check the TI website as they have some offers with an optional resort fee (or ask to waive at check in).

    I'd rate TI 3 1/2 - 4 star and MC 2 1/2 - 3 star.

If you are going for March Madness, the sportsbook is key. I've never been to the one at MC, but Ti is quite nice from what I remember. Not as nice as Mirage, but still pretty good. Mandalay Bay is still my favorite, which is why I like to stay at Luxor.

I know OP wants a comparison but I can't do that. I stayed at MC over Christmas 2012 and have to agree with Viva Las Vegas' review. The rooms were not great and the bathroom was a little dirty.I also like the TI location better.

Im pleasantly surprised with the responses so far, I agree the TI is a notch or so above the Monte Carlo IMHO. There's a group of folks on the board who seem to enjoy the Monte Carlo; I've never gotten the attraction. The TI also rarely sees much love on here, but I used to stay there quite regularly, before Phil Ruffin bought the place and have been in several times since and up to the rooms a couple times to pick-up clients for business, though I've not slept there in several years. I like what Phil has done and continues to do... it's not plush, but he purposely was moving in a direction of attracting folks who valued their cash. I saw him on TV right after he purchased the joint and he stated something to the effect that " the country has changed and people aren't wildly spending paper-equity from their homes anymore. He wanted to position the place to cater to a clientele who wasn't looking for high-dollar meals and swank stuff they couldn't afford with cash.
