The Orleans Resort Fee Increasing

The Orleans Resort fee is raising August 1st from $6 to $9.99. I just got off the phone with reservations. I received and offer for a Slot tournament and was told the resort fee was going up for all reservations booked for stay after the 31st of this month.

Ouch! Not good news. Was planning on a 10-12 night stay there in Sept./Oct. (4 nights comped). Looks like some offers we are getting from other locations are starting to look more attractive.

Can anyone confirm if this is charged on comped rooms? I have an offer for two free nights, but I hesitate to use it if I'm charged for my supposedly "free" nights.

I was comped 2 nights last month and I was charged nothing. You should be fine. I would call first.

 

I have had the resort fee waived when I have stayed on a comp, however I don't know if that is policy or just good fortune.

 

Stayed for 4 nights beginning of June, 2 x comp and 2 x @ sapphire members rate, did not get charged the fee for the comped nights but did get charged for the payed nights, all in all it cost me about $53 total for the 4 nights, so cant complain really.

 

What a drag! I hope we get something for it! No pool in the Winter. Maybe we will get free in room internet now. Ask for all the extra coffee you can get!

 

This is a major line to cross in my view. Just when I was thinking they had kept themselves out of this gimmickery. I have not paid for a room in years at the Orleans and low roll with the best of them and such a fee never applied.....but in principle it was always a separation between the evil empire(s) and the Boyd groups (3.99 was like....a front end tip and even that wasn't charged all the time)....when the prices of the room are fairly inexpensive, a 10 $ fee is a great % of the "good" deal....

It surprises me too as the stock in Boyd is way up and things seemed to be getting better across the board as viewed via various media reports.

 

Properties should just raise their rates. And let the public decide if they still want to stay there.

Resort fees just make the hotels look like they are trying to gouge you when you are not looking.

Now they are mostly charging a fee because they can with the customer getting very little for the fee.

That $30 room really isn't $30 anymore

 

It just AMAZES me that $3.99 causes folks who purport to "LOVE" The Orleans (or other properties) to consider elsewhere... you have no loyalty to the them, so they have no loyalty to you (or maybe it's visa/versa). They'll do what they need to do to make money and it looks like you'll do what you need to do to save $3.99!

 

21wins has hit it on the head, just tell the folks that the room is $40 instead of $30 + $9.99 and everybody will be happy, nobody will think of it as a con then and either pay it or go elsewhere.

If any place can charge a resort fee it can be the Orleans. It's has a very nice pool, free parking, a bowling alley, movie theater, 2 arcades, plenty of entertainment choices, plenty of food choices, spa, beauty salon, fee shuttle bus to the Strip and one of the largest casinos in Vegas. Actual resort stuff to do. Compare that value to the Plaza downtown for $10, for what, a coupon book and a tiny outdated pool? Or $10 at the Quad?

I wasn't charged the fee on comped nights either. Just the 2 extra discounted nights.

I follow your logic ok, but what I think bothers us most is that people would prefer to book a room advertised for say $50 knowing that that was the cost of the room plus tax, not book a room for $35 attracted by the price then realizing that when you paid a resort, then maybe a utilities fee (remember them?), then an arrival fee or a wifi fee that the $35 toom is now $58 plus tax.

Yes we can chart the cost of rooms that are inclusive along with the cost of a room plus resort fee, plus utilitie fee, plus wifi fee included but it is more work and the room advertised fee is misleading. That is what we don't like. Figure out what you need to make a living and run a business and give me a price and then I can compare it to the cost at other places, then consider location, convenience, perks etc. and make my decision. Same with airlines. You do a search and find that they all have a price similar to SWA advertised. But unlike SWA, then you add fee for 2 bags, and some of the other a la carte BS and it is nowhere near the origininal cost.

I teach Driver Ed and my prices have risen dramatically in the last few years. I advertise a price for the state approved course. I am licensed and regulated by the State of NH. People can pay that course or choose another school; some are higher and some are less. I don't submit a lowball figure better than my competitors and then hit my students for a gas surcharge, a toll fee, a teacher recertification fee, a car maintenance fee, an insurance fee, etc.

I don't like a la carte restaurants and I don't like a la carte hotels either. My show moved to the RIO last year and I still prefer to stay downtown and bus to the show. I did think of the Gold Coast during the week since it is closer and prices are good, but with all the add on's the prices look good til you do the math and downtown looks even better (again).

Just had a look at my email confirmation for October. It clearly states room cost plus tax then states...." Does not include a nightly resort fee of
$6.00 plus tax. " There is nothing about currently $6 , or that the amount may change or that it is variable. So I will be arguing that I have a contract with them to pay $6 and hey this Asti can kick off a little if needed :evillaugh

 

while there are people that lament the resort fee or increase in resort fee the bottom line is still the overall price of the room. keep rates low including fees and the guests will still stay. many look at the $4 rise as a raise in hotel rates, just that they are trying to hide the increase in a resort fee.

I am noticing it with sodas, now many sodas are being sold in 20 packs (instead of 12 or 24 packs), other sodas are being sold in smaller (8 or 10 oz) cans. Basically just another way of confusing the consumer and trying to mask the increase in prices.

the orleans already charged a fee so just factor in the fees to get the total cost of your stay when determining where to stay. yeah, we all wish they did away with the resort fee and just raised rates but they want to appear to be low or have the lowest rates that cause the nickel and diming.

 

EXACTLY! Just raise the rates and let the people decide if they wan to stay, dine, gamble, in your casino.

This is very similar to the car rental business which I'm employed at. Book a $10 compact car, great deal right. Look at your total and the $10 car is $25 after all of the fees, especially fees for consolidated facilities. That's a 150 percent increase on that great deal. Just tell us the price and let us decide.

 

As an FYI... I stayed at the Orleans over July 4th on a 3 night slot tourney offer and wasn't charged the resort fee (it was $6/night per the signs). I had assumed I would have to pay it and was thrilled for a $6 room over the holiday weekend. But they didn't charge it when I checked out, and i didn't ask.

At least at this time, the resort fee DOES NOT include internet of any kind in your room. The wireless charge was $4.99/24 hours in the room and was very reasonable compared to other properties... and it was pretty fast. I'd love to have the free wifi, but will and do pay.

What I did take exception to was the resort fee includes 10 min of computer use in the business center. I had a FSP coupon online from the Orleans, I had printed it before I left home, but couldn't find it upon arrival. So I used my free 10 min at the business center to print it off their website. Then they charged me $1.50 per printed page, you've got to be kidding me??

Mine was only one page and it's not that it was much $$ at all, it's the cheapass principle of charging the resort fee and the only benefit is the business center to print a coupon from their own website, and charge $1.50 per page. Now that is robbery! So they are luring people there to print their boarding passes, then sticking them with printing charges. Dumb.

I don't like paying additional fees anymore than the next person, but people have to remember even with resort fees how cheap hotels in Vegas really are. In towns from Minneapolis to NYC to Miami, hotels range well into the $100-$300 a night range, just on the low side of that, you can get 2 nights in Vegas at a lot of the properties in town. Resort fees are here to stay, and until rooms get up to prices they are elsewhere I will keep going. Vegas truly is a cheap, fun place to get away.
