Has anyone played in one of these Fri-Sun tournaments. I got an invite for 3 free nights, free entry, and free play. Says registration Fri night and prizes start at $20,000 (free play) plus WSOP main event entry and lists a couple more payouts. Could not find details on structure or is there is a cap on entrants. It is 9-13 to 9-15.

I have played in one a couple years ago

    Guessing the structure is similar.
There were several hundred of us in a large room for the first round; you got 1000 or 1500 chips & blinds were 10 min. Top 2 from each table go onto the next round--seems you got more chips/slower blinds that round.
I thought with so few chips & such short blinds I would have to be aggressive & rely solely on luck. Not so much, as many seemed clueless as to how to play poker at our table & were involved in too many hands/called too large of bets. Patience surprisingly worked fine as I let others take each other out. I have played much tourney poker in Vegas & at our home casino over the years. I advanced as did a professional bridge player. Nothing significant in 2nd round.
They do require you to say whether you will take machine vouchers or free play chips when you register--take the chips!

I did it last year. It was basically 100 sit-and-go tables for the first round and only the winner advanced to the second round. I forget the exact number of starting chips but by the third level the big blinds were 1/10 of your stack, and the game is designed to last for only an hour. So even though you might have an advantage since at least half the table doesn't play poker, it's mitigated by the fact that your only move is all-in or fold.

I believe the second round was played as a multi-table tournament format to get to the final ten.

It's not worth travelling across the country to play, but if you're going to be in town anyway, hey, it's a free shot at $20,000.

Might be a good value if you are in town... But prepared for a push-or-fold-festival.

I'll be playing in this tournament, and I'll report back once I'm done. Free entry, and a potential to have my WSOP buyin covered, why not? Plus, excuse to go to vegas!
