I will be living in Las Vegas for the next month and have checked out all the locals casinos. I was surprised it is so hard to find 9/6 JoB video poker. I am specifically looking for a 9/6 hundred play machine, but I have yet to find it.

Where do others go play?

 

I'm not a local, but we always rent a car. My favorite locals casinos are the Fiestas (Henderson and Rancho).

When we lived in Vegas I put together a small database of VP paytables for various casinos on their bartops.

Many local casinos do not even have JOB on their machines, let alone 9/6.

I can't help you on the hundred play, but MSS, Cal & Four Queens all have 9/6 JOB at the bartops and many locals play there.

According to my list, which is now 3 years old, Fiesta does not have JOB on bartops. I only play at the bar, so things might be different on the floor.

 

The South Point has 50-play 9/6 JOB machines for nickels. As you walk by the main cashier, on your way to the buffet, these upright machines will be on your immediate left.

The Palms also has 50-play with 9/6 JOB, for 1 and 2 cents. They are located in the far west area by the food court ... slant-tops.

 

To me that's a loaded question. With any of the slots or even VP its hit or miss. Some may have better POTENTIAL payoffs.. BUT that AINT a guarantee........ THAT being said would play at he lower level VP at the smaller houses. The POTENTIAL might be better there than the bigger houses.

 

The 4 Queens does not have 9/6 JOB at the Bartops anymore. But they have it at various denominations on the floor.

 

Single line 9/6 can be found at the Gold Coast and the Ellis Is.

 

As mentioned previously, consult vpfree2. You can tell it to search by game if you like. 9/6 is the default.

You do know that 9/6 Jacks or Better is not the best video poker game available, right? For example, the same casino (possibly the same four machines) also offers 50-play NSUD in nickels.

The best paying games (such as FPDW) are not available in more than single play so far as I know.

 

Not quite true. The difference with video poker and slots is that the long-term return on video poker can be easily determined from the pay table. You can't easily determine the long-term payout on slots. Once you memorize the high or full-pay video poker schedules it becomes tough to want to play anything lower.

But it's true that's it "hit or miss" and you can still tank on a full-pay video poker machine as you can on slots. However, the long-term payback on a full-pay video poker machine will beat out the slots if you play with expert/perfect strategy and your bankroll can handle the ups and downs.

If by "lower level" video poker you mean lower denomination, casinos generally have lower long-term theoretical return for the lower denominations than higher denominations, but full-pay VP can still be found on nickels and dimes at the Fiesta(s) and other Station properties.

 

So along these lines, had a discussion with the FIL last week. I said that VP 'payback rates' were 100% determined by the pay schedules. The odds of drawing a certain hand don't ever change so the only variable is the pay schedule. He said it was more complicated than that; that it was akin to slot machines being programmed for certain long term paybacks. If VP machines are 'programmed' for long term paybacks than the hands aren't really random the way I assumed they were. He played a ton of VP in his time (me, not so much) so I was willing to listen. I still think he's wrong and what you have written here is basically what I was trying to communicate to him. However, the previous poster (that you quoted) seems to be saying something similar to what my FIL said.

Yes and no, really.
You won't realize a "decent" distribution of hands until you play a LOOOOOOT (like 1 million hands)
Hence, 50/100-play get you there QUICKER.
Let's say you play 800,000 hands on regular JoB...with 99% certainty you will have seen 20 royals.

 

Perhaps surprisingly, I estimate the probability to only be about 9% that you would get a royal flush exactly 20 times, and just over half (51%) that it happens 20 or more times.

 

And you would only be 99%+ certain to see 10 Royals by that point.

 

Unless you are "Joe" (from Wisc.) ... then your results would be close to nil.
