Bellagio Casino Music

So we're thinking of changing things up and trying the Bellagio on our next trip after being at Encore for probably the last 4 yrs.

It may sound trivial but we love the music in the casino at Encore and Wynn and it plays a part in my/our gaming vibe so it's a bit of a concern.

Anybody know what type of music they are normally playing at Bellagio? Knowing most casino's change it up depending what time of day it is; We gamble pretty hard in the AM and then to the pool from about 11-3 then back out gambling from about 6-11.

I was there a week ago an it was top 40.

 

Dean, I also love the music at Wynncore. It's definitely part of the vibe there for me.

I stayed at Bellagio for my first time in early June. I'll list two songs that were burned into my musical memory there.

Serioulsy? Hmmm....not bad songs but also not exactly what I'd call sexy Las Vegas gambling vibe.

That's a little disapointing....

 

Bellagio used to play Smooth Jazz......Boney James, Brian Culbertson, Sade, Hiroshima, etc. as well as other casinos like Bally's, Monte Carlo. That was the best music for a casino in Vegas. It made people happy even if they didn't know who they were listening to. It was soothing. In many cases the songs were sung by artists, like Tony Braxton, Anita Baker, U2, Sting, etc but done instrumentally by musicians such as Boney, Peter White, Keiko Matsui. I go back to Vegas in a little over 2 weeks, i'll try and keep track of what Strip properties are playing now.

 

Now that's more of what I expected. I think I'd call Wynn's selection kind of a modern jazz too but it's also mixed w/ some cool stuff that most people never have heard before like all the Boss-N-"input group/solo artists name" tunes. Those are some of the best I think and I've talked to a lot of people that say they heard them first at Wynncore.

I could have sworn when we stopped by Bellagio last year they were playing more of what you described w/ some Frank, Tony Bennet and Dino mixed in too (I mean, who doesn't like Dino?)

 

I think background music needs to stay in the background and if we don't remember the music, it did the job. Unless there is something screaming out at me, I don't see how the music would have any impact on my gambling

 

I remember that and I agree it was perfect casino music. From what I can remember recently it was more like johnvic described. I distinctly remember hearing "Invisible Touch" because I found myself inadvertently singing along to it.

Good topic Dean. I know what you mean about the background music helping to set the vibe and the mood. Its very important in my opinion, even if people aren't really aware of it.

 

I recall Top 40s 80s/90s standards in the mornings / early afternoons switching to more recent Top 40s / AC in the evening during my final trip at Bellagio (early 2012). I do recall the better jazz mix / Sinatra & other standards up through a few years ago, but they are looking to get a younger crowd to hit Hyde and other clubs.

The music mix at the Wynn/Encore is one of my favorite reasons for playing there. I am a fan of jazz and other non-mainstream music, and the lively music and vibe at Wynn/Encore has me gambling and drinking in a very happy state, regardless of my final results.

The MILFe philosophy over the past ten years is to standardize all aspects of their properties and to replace the original unique themes (see Mirage, MGM, Monte Carlo, Luxor). It's good to try something different, but when all is said and done, you'll realize there's no place like home.

 

VivaLV.... I'm afraid you may have hit the nail on the head. Ill wait to hear from those who are there in the next few weeks but I still have my Encore reservation thru my host there.

 

I have been disappointed in the music at the Bellagio. It is top 40 music these days. I gamble early in the mornings and they used to play Frank Sinatra and all the wonderful standards from 4:00 am to 8:00 am, then suddenly it switched to smooth jazz then top 40. Now it is top 40 all the time with the old favorites (well for me anyway) mixed in occasionally. Just not keen on the music selection BUT at least it is not blaring loud.

 

Thanks gang, I really appreciate all the input. The Top 40 constantly changes so I'm guessing what they play is a culmination of Top 40 over the years if they're playing stuff like 'the girl is mine"? At least they mix some classic Vegas ("old favorites") tunes in so it could be a lot worse.

I think Wynn has created an upbeat, sexy, almost european jazz sound and also throws in some classic Rat Pack era tunes....he (or his peeps) just kind of have the midas touch when it comes to creating atmosphere whether it's music, decor or service. Or...maybe he just gets it.

 

There's a lot of samba-esque versions of pop songs at Wynncore which, to me, creates that sexy happy, and happy sexy, vibe.

I remember the first time I really appreciated being in Vegas. I had gone for a few conventions but it was mostly work and then some great dinners but we were all beat from work. One night we went for a drink at the bar by the fountains, I think it was the Fontana back then. We were having a drink and I got to see the fountains with Strangers in the Night playing and Fanfare for the Common Man. I just thought, this is perfect.

 

You know.... only some will remember this (non music buffs don't much notice casino and pool music at all I don't think) but when Steve Wynn first built the Mirage and for some years after, all the music in the resort (pool and casino) was Brazilian jazz stuff that you hardly ever heard anywhere in those days except south FL. Zero top 40 at all.

Good music just sets the mood for me....let me bore you w/ a little story; Last year I was playing $1 VP in the AM at Encore, enjoying my coffee and The Days of Wine and Roses by Frank came on and it so reminded me of my Mom who passed a few years ago, I just kind if sang along while playing. It was not only one of her favorite songs but as a kid, she was forever singing as she did stuff around the house or really during any activity she did. Probably where I got my love of good music. Right after the song ended, I hit 4 Aces on DDB (no, no kicker) and I just kind of smiled and said "I love you Mom"

But all sentiment aside, that is why the casino who is in business to make money gives you good music....to make you feel happy, feel at home and wanting to play. My Mom loved to gamble too, they went to Reno every year for a long time. So what the hell....Steve is happy and I'm happy. Yea he gets some of my money but in the end, we'll both go out like we came in....broke and nekid

OK...back to music in the casino if we haven't beat this one to death

 

I love music as long as it's good to my ears. That being said we left Bellagio a couple of hours ago and it was pretty meh. A totally random mix of everything but it was quiet enough to be background music.

I will say that the drink service is really lacking from a year ago. 1 drink an hour doesn't cut it Bellagio, just sayin'.

 

During the busy evening hours, say 8pm to 2am, you often can't hear the music at Bellagio all! There are often some pretty bizarre "oldies" playing from 2-8am--I'm not talking Sinatra, which I would welcome. Top 40 seems to take over again during the day. If you are a blackjack player, club prive has its own soundtrack which is generally edgier and better, but dependent on "who is there."

This is one area that I think Wynn gets very right, setting a cool vibe with energetic but not overpowering music. His music is also consistent throughout the resort. As you walk through Bellagio, you hear very different music from different venues (Lily, Petrossian, Club Prive, Hyde) which conflicts with the main soundtrack and becomes very unpleasant at times.

A Bellagio poker dealer told me there is a whale that chooses the music that is played at Bellagio when he is there...
