Over 100 degree weather for days on end...would you take that over a winter in Vegas?

I remember a winter that was so cold, I did not want to leave the hotel at night. But the days were completely tolerable with a small coat on. I even went into the hot tub outside during the winter. And what a highlight that was. During another winter, the weather was truly favorable all day long.

On the flip side, I felt like I could not breathe while walking in the August heat. I also wanted to stay indoors...throughout the day in order to breathe. While I enjoy heat, I struggle in determining whether winter or summer is worse. I have not been back for summer yet. Summer rates are so beautiful.

I'll take a winter in Vegas anytime over the summer... of course it's relative, as the winters here in Lake Tahoe are far worse AND I'm just not built for 110+. I was there a couple weeks ago in the middle of the 115 days and just hated it.

Most of our trips have been during the Summer.
Went once during Nov and this year in Feb.

It was the coldest week in Feb and it was f***ing cold.

I will gladly take the summer heat and in fact have a trip planned for Aug.
Looking forward to the great weather.

I'll take winter any day of the week as opposed to 100+ degrees. I can barely handle 90 here in the city.

Trust me these last several days in the city with the humidity have been way worse than what I felt a couple weeks ago in Vegas in 100+ degree weather. People joke around about the entire "...but it's a dry heat" line but there is a lot of truth to it too. From your countdown clock it looks like you'll be able to compare the difference yourself soon.

I'm not a huge Vegas pool person since you can't really swim in most of those pools so I'd take winter over summer any day. We went in January and other than a bit of rain I loved the weather there. Nice cool and crisp air and ideal for walking around which I enjoy doing in Vegas.

Winter all the way. I'd take 30 days of 0 degree weather over 10 days of 100+ anytime of the year. The heat sucks ass.

Oh, it's been absolutely brutal here, and I'm sure Vegas will be better since it won't be like walking through a damp sponge. That being said, I've been to Vegas in just about every season, and I'd definitely take January over July. This upcoming trip isn't even my choice; it's for a bachelor party, and there are a whole bunch of side expeditions planned (the groom and best man have each been to Vegas exactly once, and nobody else has been more than twice, but for some reason they didn't include me in the planning process). I'm perfectly happy to visit Vegas in the summer, but I don't want to leave the air-conditioned casino in that case.

I have been to Las Vegas in both the summer and winter, and to me there are pros and cons for going in either the summer or the winter.

I would do either. If I could go to Las Vegas right now I would go... if I couldn't go until winter then I'd wait and go in winter. Either way, in the end I would be in Las Vegas :) :) :)

I went this passed November and again two weeks ago. To be quite honest the 17° heat is way more brutal than the 46° at night during the winter.
Personally I would pic Col every time! I'm just not a heat person lol.

    Ive been during both...

    gotta say i love both...

Summer the Hotel we usually stay closes the pool at 10pm ... cabanas are first come first serve so after a dip ... we just hang out until 10pm and then go out... its awesome

winter its the best time to walk the strip ... grab a sweater and go ... stop by a 7/11 and buy a hot chocolate ...

I've only ever been to Vegas in the summer. Once 24 years ago, and each summer the past 3 years. For me, the heat is part of what I associate about Vegas and it wouldn't be the same for me I don't think. I live in southern BC, Canada and we get pretty hot and humid days here in the summer. Yes, the temperature is higher but the lack of humidity makes the heat bearable in Vegas for me. That said, I do what I can to make my exposure to the heat during the day in small doses.

I'd take the cold over the heat. I come from Minnesota, so how bad can a Vegas winter be :)

People joke about the entire "dry heat" thing and there is some truth to that, but living there for two winters, there is also dry cold. Really, I'm not kidding. 35 degrees and 8% humidity feels a lot colder than 35 degrees and 50-60% humidity.

If I had to pick I guess it would be winter. After 3 months of summer, it wears on you. Summer of 2009 I worked for the Census Bureau, not for the money, just thought it would be a good way to learn the city better. And it was.

Anyway, 5 days a week, 8 hrs per day, walking around took its toll and I couldn't wait for the winter cool down.

I am all about summer and the heat. I went in December before and while we still have fun, I didn't like actually being cold out at night and I missed the pool time.

I tell anyone, that tells me I'm crazy to be retiring to Vegas, the summer IS their winter. I know on Long Island we spend 5 months (Dec-Apr) going from your house, to your car, to your building without spending time in the cold. Especially during Jan & Feb. The same for June, July, Aug in Vegas. Only in the mornings in Vegas you can still get stuff done, do outdoor fun, and still have a pleasant evening. In the winter it's just that much colder in the morning and evenings and you do NOTHING outside except to shovel snow, sled or skate on the ponds.

110 degrees with AC is alot better than 10 degrees with heat.

Never stayed in the winter. Most of our trips have been MDW or the beginning of October. Only reason this upcoming trip is happening is due to my b-day/my bachelor/her bachelorette party and it worked out well for the group going.

Will probably be the only time I spend a week in the summer in a desert.

I wonder how much it really matters for most folks here. Isn't the typical VMB getaway something like airport/ground transportation/casino/ground transporation/airport? Seems to me each part is either heated or air-conditioned as needed.

I'm not being surly or wearing the cranky thong, but a person has to be in pretty dire straits to be concerned with possibly expiring if crossing over from MGM to NY-NY during the dog days of summer and no one is ever gonna disappear in a blizzard. Now going backcountry in Red Rock or the Spring Mountains could be another matter come July or January. But I'd say for 98 percent if not more, Vegas is an urban and indoor activity.

What the heat does is make for some novel discussions, anecdotal tidbits, like how long an egg might take to cook in an enclosed vehicle as if anyone is gonna sit in the rental for four hours, windows up, air off, somewhere out by Bonnie Springs. Or if you burn your feet traipsing across the asphalt that's not some anomaly of nature, it's just stupidity.

It's all relative. Where I live heat and cold are both extremes. So is rain. When I lived in Oregon or the mountains or the desert, my opinions of extreme or averse were different. If I lived in Mobile, I'd have another opinion.

For me, since my Vegas experiences mostly run toward golf, I'd much rather be out in July at 110 than December when it is 48 and a 30 mph-er is blowing in from the north. If it's more of a gambling junket, I care not either way.

Actually I hardly go to vegas during the summer anymore, especially July and August. I hate that "blast furnace" feeling you get when you leave a casino, whether in the day or night. I like to walk around so do not enjoy the heat.

Last time I stayed at MB a number of years ago at the end of august (american express promotion so was free). I visited the pool and the casino above the pool. I tried to walk from MB to CP at 10 pm but by the time I reached the bellagio I was soaked and exhausted (heat stroke) even with bottled water and stopping at casinos in between to cool off and had to take a cab back to the hotel. After that I decided not to go to vegas during the summer months, esp since I don't stay at the strip hotels (no pools at downtown hotels I stay at).

I do go in the winter, for the CES and AVN expo. Don't mind bundling up outside and don't mind the cold (esp since Honolulu doesn't get that cold). I do go outside to walk around and don't mind the cold but I don't do much outside during winter.

I think for many it all depends if they like the cold or hot climate, some people rather stay cold while others are uncomfortable and prefer the heat. While a number of Hawaii people moved to vegas I would probably not do the move, I like to be able to golf all year round and be able to wear shorts and t shirts and slippers all the time. Plus the temp changes IMHO are brutal to me.

We live in the hot/humid summer and bitter cold/snowy/icy Midwest. Dislike both extremes. So we take our twice yearly trips to Las Vegas in April and October, when the temps there are moderate. Occasionally, the temps are a little warmer than normal ~ BUT, the casino temps are always fine. That's where we spend most of our time anyway.

Hey Joe ~ didn't you recently complain big time about your WI winters and think about going back to LV? LOL
