We are debating on making another trip before the Oct 1st deadline when it looks like Mlife points reset. We are only 4k tier points away from gold so trying to decide if it would be worth doing it before Oct 1st for discounts on 2014 trips. If we do it, we would have gold from Oct 1 2013-Sep 30 2014 correct?

    Thanks

getting to Gold isn't going to increase your offers any. your offers are based on your play. in fact, an extra trip this year that's lower than normal could actually decrease your offers. the only thing you're going to get by hitting gold is the tier benefits, which is an extra 10% point/EC bonus, potential room upgrade (basically a better view only), priority check-in line, 10% retail discount and a coffee shop line pass. you would have to decide if those benefits are worth it to you.

Yep I knew what I would get if I got up to gold and wouldn't necessarily low play em. Was just confirming that the points do reset Oct1st which it looks like is the case. Thanks Shifter.

Agreed on this, and though there are some tier discounts, they're not really all that great. Personally, I think that the buffet line pass is a decent benefit at Pearl, but after that, the Gold benefits are pretty marginal (although things like the taxi line pass at Platinum are worthwhile). My opinion is that if you can make it out there, great, but it's not worth an additional trip just to maintain Gold.

But to answer your question, as far as I know if you make it to Gold before the end of September 2013, you'll be gold through the end of September 2014.

I was in the exact same situation last year and again this year...I am in AZ so it was/is easy for me to just drive the couple hours to Vegas and stay one night, get the credits I needed to get Gold and drive home. But seeing as you are in Nebraska its more of a hastle.

To be honest, the best part of being Gold is the card...it just looks cool and I feel baller handing it to the dealer. The benifits that come with Gold are really not very good...the room upgrade is usually just a higher room...and on rare occasions a room with a view.

My suggestion is DO NOT make an extra trip SOLELY to get Gold...If you are planning on going soon but it is going to be after the Sept 30 credit reset then I would say there is no harm in moving it up slightly...but dont make an additional trip

they dont care about gold at mgm maybe if your noir they will notice your card but gold is one of the lowest levels and no one will pay attention to it. at mgm noir is the highest level and platinum is the second highest level. gold at mgm is like plat at cet it doesnt get noticed.

For the record, the platinum taxi line cut is probably the best thing about being platinum, in my opinion. I've used it many times when the line is long. Walk right to the front with your group and get the next taxi.

I believe demon is just saying it makes him feel more baller by handing over a gold card, not that the pit will treat you special, which is true to some extent. I know that some college kids or Vegas virgins will look at a gold (and sometimes even pearl) card with some mystique and wonder. :p

ok i see what your saying but i dont think vegas virgins or college kids will look at any card with wonder not even noir because they dont know anything in the first place. i think the only people who notice your card are people who know about the diffrent cards and those people know gold is one of the lowest cards. it doesnt even get taxi or valet cutting benefit you have to wait in line with everyone else if your gold. if you have platinum or noir and you cut a taxi line people like those college kids and vegas virgins might notice that and wonder.

You'd be surprised. It can be pretty difficult for someone on a budget and only goes to vegas 1-2 times a year to even get pearl or higher (even with tier credits from resort spending!). Most of my friends stay at the lower properties (or will stay at a CET property because it's cheaper and scatter their $100-200 bankroll around wherever they happen to be). They will have a players card and they will know what the levels are, but they don't spend enough to get to them so it looks impressive to them to see higher cards. They don't know (or are unwilling to put that much money down) that staying at a higher tier property for a few nights and a couple steakhouse dinners will push you past pearl.

True, but Gold does let you walk past the Bellagio buffet line on Sunday mornings when it stretches halfway across the casino!

I should probably know this, but if you earned Platinum in January of this year does that mean you'll be platinum until Oct 2013 or until Oct 2014? The language about it in the FAQ is a bit confusing (to me at least).

From what I understand, whatever level you hit during the year, you keep for the rest of the year and the following year; basically, however many points you have at the end of the day on September 30th determines your level for the next year. So yes, if you hit Platinum in January 2013, you should keep that until October 2014.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if you needed to keep the 200k TCs active over a rolling 12 month period or something. I guess it makes any TCs I earn between now and October 2013 useless since I wouldn't get to NOIR anyway. Which is good because I'm losing my appetite for VP which is what earned me most of those TCs in the first place. This last trip without much VP coin-in I earned less than half of what I earned in January.

Man you sound so ignorant right now...and not just because of your poor grammar.

Gold is the third tier...of four...NOIR doesn't count since it is invite only. So it's not "one of the lowest cards"...it's almost the top card.

If you run the numbers, it takes quite a bit of action to get to Platinum...hence the great benefits like the VIP taxi/limo line service and free cruise. Gold is not achieved with chump change either...although much less than Platinum

Rewards programs are becoming increasingly more popular...so it is stupid to think that "vegas virgins and college kids" will know nothing about the programs or the benefits of each level. I was a “college kid” when I started going to Vegas and am still a “college kid”...and I was and am pretty damn knowledgeable about the different reward programs.

So check yourself before you start talking shit to people who know more than you about the topic!

i know more about it than you do i'm diamond cet and platinum mlife and my dad is diamond and sometimes seven star and high platinum mlife. i didnt say gold is chump change but if you think gold makes anyone think your a bigshot than you dont know about gambling. there are not 4 tiers there are 5,just because noir is invite only doesnt mean its not a tier. seven star is also invite only but its 150000 tier plus you have to be in good standing and be invited. noir might change this year but its 1000000 tier and you get invited if your in good standing. there are 4 earned tiers(sapphire is not earned) and gold is second lowest, the amount of gambling you do for gold would get you platinum at cet. do you think platinum at cet is bigshot gambler?

but if you want to feel like a bigshot for having gold at mlife than thats your business but they wont even let you cut a taxi line with gold so your lumped in with people who dont even have a card. you can cut a buffet line though which is the same thing they let people with pearl do. also your wrong a lot of people dont know anything about the cards at cet almost half of the people gamble without cards and they have more card users than mgm.

honestly, gold isn't much, but it's definitely going to be more after this year than it is now. with the new rules and slower point earning, a lot of previously platinum guests will find themselves at gold for next year. but based on last year's earning rate, gold was pretty easy to attain if you made a few trips even if you didn't play very high.

I think at CET its about 70% of players use cards, pretty sure that's the number I recently read in Addiction by Design. Though the number in Vegas is probably lower than the number at their local markets. The Vegas locals casinos are considered to have a high card utilization rate of about 80%. Though I agree card usage at MGM is probably lower than CET just because CET pushes the program much harder and has a lot of local markets.

On my last trip at MGM at a $100 table there was this guy who didn't have a card. Me and the dealer talked to him about it and he actually didn't know what the player card was about. I told him he should get one because with black chip play he could probably get free rooms, etc. He had no clue so he gave his license to the PB who made a card for him.

I do find it surprising when I see someone who doesn't have a card, especially when they're playing at levels where they'd get decent comps. But I guess the case is usually them just not knowing what its about, not a case where they have privacy concerns or something like that.
