Post Trip Remarks

I just got back from my 1 week staying at the Flamingo and I came across some things that I want to share. While this is not a trip report (that is coming later) it is a collection of things I witnessed and society in general.

1) Strollers and young kids: Now I already made a post earlier about this and I took some flak for it but I'm bringing it up again. I don't mind kids in Vegas at all. I only notice them when attention is drawn to them or of situations of poor parenting. Take for example my first night in town. I was playing an Alice machine at the Flamingo. The machine was gladly taking my donation of funds. I was getting a little frustrated at the machine and I dropped the f word after a bonus gave me nothing back in return. As soon as I say the word this mother with her kid in a stroller yells at me and gets in my face stating that I should not be using that language in front of her children. This was around 2:30 in the morning and I had a few to drink so I told her to take her kids to bed and mind her own business. She huffed and puffed and left.

2)"That's my machine, not yours": The other night I was on a machine when this lady comes up to me screaming and yelling that I took her machine. I apologized and told her that I was almost done and then she could play. She then flashes her Diamond card and proceeds to tell me that they have priority over machines. I told her that's not true and that I am a platinum member myself and she would have to wait. She then proceeds to take my card out of my machine and hits the cashout button. I get angry and flag down security and they come over but they don't do anything and tell me I was in the wrong. I ask for his supervisor and they review the tape and see what she did and finally they kick her out of the casino. I was a little upset but CET did me right and gave me $100 in free play and a meal comp for the ordeal since I was wrongly accused.

3)"Why would anyone gamble, and why do you get comped rooms, free meals, and skip lines?" : This one was rather amusing, I was waiting in line to check in late at night on the night of my arrival next to these young people. They were constantly saying things like "why would anyone gamble?" and casinos are no fun. I politely ask them what they in town for, what are your plans, etc, while we waited in line. I was in the Diamond/Plat line and they were in the normal line. They proceeded to tell me they were in town to party, etc. I told them it would be an epic trip since it was there first time. Shortly thereafter I get called to be helped next and there was a big groan and angry people at me since I got to jump the line. Then when the registration clerk told me that my room was comped and of no charge, the lady next to me gets angry and yells out loud that why doesn't he have to pay but we do. I just told her to gamble a little and see what CET has to offer. She gets angry and says gambling is for losers.

These are my collection of stories about the general public during my trip. Now my spelling and grammar is probably off but I'm recovering from my trip and trying to plan out my next one so I apologize. I just find it amusing that people feel so entitled anymore. I work directly with the public daily so I see it all the time. What's your thoughts on any of this?

No worries with the long post, I didn't feel it was excessive. Regarding the lady berating you at 2:30am, I probably would have done the same as you. If you have your child out at 2:30am, you have to know that walking through a casino that you may hear that kind of thing.

As for the second situation, you probably handled it better than I would have. I'm honestly not quite sure what would have happened if somebody took my card and cashed me out without my permission, but it may have been something I would have regretted the next day. I'm glad that she got kicked out and that the casino gave you some free play for your troubles.

#3 wouldn't have really bothered me, I just would have gone on my way and let her be all pissed for however long she may have let it affect her.

 

2 and 3) Entitlement and DYKWIA issues. :rollseyes:

 

You did have some strange interactions. Any one would be annoying----but all three that you mentioned???? Very odd.

 

Wow, people are very strange aren't they? I would have done the same exact things you did, but perhaps even louder. Below is an excerpt from my 6/2011 trip

"Another random memory. I was in Flamingo before one my slot tourneys, playing some machines and had a ticket. After the tourny, I went to cash it in, and all of the kioks weren't working for tito's so I had to go the cashier, just like everyone else in the casino. So, like all CET cashiers, there are two lines, one for Diamond/Platinum cards, and one for everyone else. Only there were so many people, you couldn't read the signs stating this. So people were in all lines. NO BIGGIE, the line is going to move as fast at the cashiers can work, period. Must have been fifty people in line, all just quietly standing there waiting their turns. There were only three cashiers at the time. Whatever. So then this heavily made up woman walks up, looks at everyone standing there, looks at the sign and loudly says "THIS is the Platinum line! Are you ALL Platinum players?" Everyone kind of rolled thier eyes and ignored her. So then she gets louder and when no one answers her she jumps the line, goes to a cashier who is in the middle of a transaction and demands that they make an announcement about the Platinum line. Cashier finishes up what she is doing, and announces that this one line is Platinum and Diamond only. One young lady asks what is a Diamond and then goes to the other line. This woman then starts going up and down the line demanding to see everyone's cards. Everyone is just ignoring her. OMG. She then gets to me and in my face, was like "this is a Platinum line only, you have to go in the other line". WOW. I look at her holding her Platinum card and I hold up my Diamond Card and don't say a word. She is getting totally worked up. The funny thing is, is that the regular line is moving twice as fast as our line, and had she not said a word, she would have been thru by then. THEN, a woman walks up, cuts thru everyone in line, walks up to an empty cage, and one of the cashier's stops what she is doing and goes to wait on her. I thought the one woman was going to have a coronary until the woman who just went ahead of everyone, shot her a look, started laughing and put her 7-Star card in this woman's face. HAVE to love it! You had to be there I guess, but another Vegas moment. "

Holy crap I gotta give you props for keeping your composure. I hope I would've remained as civil but I would've probably ended up in handcuffs and on YouTube beating up an old lady!

Just kidding folks....but that's seriously nuts.

 

Love these stories. Watching how some supposed adults behave makes me wonder how the human race has survived this long.

 

Not surprised about any of the three.

1. Society has become more crass over the years, and I catch myself uttering profanities when I shouldn't but parents need to put their kids in bed at the appropriate time and she should have kept going in this instance. This would be a different story in the middle of church service, at an IHOP at 10AM or at an amusement park or playground.

2. I've seen many people go batshit crazy over "their machine", saving "their machine". I would not be surprised to one day find someone perched on top of "their machine" squatting down and marking "their machine" similar to how a dog would mark "their machine".

3. The one woman had a point (about gamblers) but it was a rude comment and shouldn't have been offered to a stranger. As far as the other yahoo yelling "why doesn't he have to pay but we do?", she was not only rude but also clueless.

Interesting stories for sure, your post validates a theory I have been stating for years. There are increasingly more and more folks that are coming to LV to party and have no interest in gambling. I began posting this a couple years ago and was often called crazy, but it is becoming more and more commonplace.

 

I admire the way you handed each occurrence... I'm not sure I couldda remained as civil with #2, that's just crazy, but you did the right thing. I shake my head more and more at what people think they can get away with or are entitled to, but I draw the line when they become bullies about it.

I am all for adults watching their language in front of kids....there is nothing I can't stand worse than idiots screaming profanities at sports games and the like.....but once it is in an "adult" setting that changes.....when it is 2:30 am on a CASINO FLOOR no less well that wind bag will just have her kids learn some new words and if she had gotten in my face they would have learned a lot of new words especially ones to call their "mom"

the second one would have possibly lead to physical violence.....the wrong thing to do of course, but you start going for something with my money involved and all bets are off....or on.....take the 44yo guy over the old lady on that one folks....although in hind site $100 and a meal is a nice reward for holding your cool and you should be commended for that and I suppose it is a lesson for those like me that might be less inclined to do so...watching her get tossed = bonus round

the third one I would have told the person at the checkin counter that paying for hotel rooms in Vegas was for losers.....the club kiddies I would have just laughed at and told them the stories of what I did to their moms back when Vegas was much more wild

 

OMG most of you guys are so much more composed than me. If you could only see me loosing my shit at the idiots on the road every day you'd have a clue how badly I would have handled most of those situations.

Thanks for the stories though. All of them were too funny!

 

Houston, TX city of my birth ......all the new idiots don't realize no one cares about your stupid signal just look and if it is clear make your move....and on the freeway is if 5+ in the slow lane 10-15+ in the middle lane and the left lane is the Texas Autobahn GTFO of the way!

 

I think the thing that would bother me the most was the fact that initially casino security took her side! At least they did you right with the comp upon realizing their error.

 

Going to Vegas and not gambling is like going to a brothel just for some coffee.

As for #2, I would have taken that lady down with an elbow or knee to the throat. What she did is the same thing as reaching into your wallet and taking out a hundo.
Subduing her would be necessary while I hit the service button with my free hand and wait for security to arrive.

After reading all these 'reports', I can't wait until my next trip in 2 weeks. This is sure gonna be fun!

 

we should take up a collection and get some GoPros for members to wear so we can see all the "action" live :evillaugh
