This question was asked elsewhere and I didn't know the answer so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Let's say I want to stay at a casino where I have a player's club account and a history that gets me satisfactory comps.

But I have no intention of playing there at all while I'm staying there this time, so I book a room using the best publicly available deal I can find.

Should I associate my player account with the stay when I check in, in order to get the mostly-but-not-totally useless tier credits for hotel spend? Or will that cause the trip to go in the books as a no-play stay because they know I was there and didn't play?

The value of those extra points for cash spending is so minimal, I would not do it. So little gain - maybe even nothing unless it gets you to another level. BUT - it may/will/could lower your ADT seriously.

if your using your own credit card to book your room they might already link it to your player number. i did this at the harrahs here once for someone and the reservation still showed my total rewards number even though i didn't give it to them , so you should check with the hotel about that.

why would you ever pay for a room at a place that you can get comped? that's crazy. take the comp, play or don't play as you want. one low/no play trip isn't going to affect you pretty much at all. again that would be absolutely crazy to me to pay for the room in that situation.

If you can get the room comped, I would most probably use the comp and not worry about the theo for one visit.

This has happened to me when I'm in Vegas for a conference. At MGM and Venetian I've had no trouble not associating my players card with the room and it not affecting my average. I could see Caesars somehow linking them though...they are very thorough.

It's somewhat liberating to be in Vegas and not having to earn your keep. Especially, if there are plenty of vendors to wine and dine you.

I'm so glad you asked this. I wondered the same thing.

The last 2 days of my 10 day August trip, I want to do nothing but sit by the pool and relax. The last thing I will want to do is gamble after the first 8 days. I booked those 2 nights at the Mirage for $40 total after all taxes and fees and a $150 resort credit. I am very happy to do that and be able to "recover" in Vegas without having the system watching my gaming.

I will not use my Mlife card on those last 2 days.

    Very good to know. :)

No and I didn't say you could. I am smart enough to realize that that between pool, drinks, and meals most would easily spend $150 over 2 days anyway.

Your post doesn't contribute to the topic at all. But thanks. (Wow, for a minute there I had to check to see if I was on the nice and helpful VMB or the snarky and unhelpful TA....)

When you said "I booked those 2 nights at the Mirage for $40 total after all taxes and fees and a $150 resort credit" it made it seem like it was going to be $190 for the two nights after taxes and fees but by using your $150 resort credit it was only $40 for the room...thats where my confusion arose from.

Back to the topic at hand though, If you book with your players account (using a comp or whatever) and dont gamble at all I think they look at those days as $0 ADT...since they know you are there at their casino. If you dont book using your players card...and dont gamble...then they will have no clue that you are even at their casino...unless the CC things is true as someone else brought up.

So if you are new and dont have much history with that casino a few days at $0 ADT could hurt

Unless you're there for business or something and someone else is footing the bill I don't see any upside to this.

You're paying now or you take the comp room and maybe it doesn't hurt your rating too much to no play one trip as others suggested. Worst case scenario if it does you simply pay the next trip instead and probably get it comped on the back end.

With your method you're just guaranteeing you'll pay. Seems like intentionally leaving money on the table. Though if you're getting an uber-cheap rate like da1chifan is getting that's more understandable.

Ah yes, but the thing I guess I forgot to include is that I've never had a winning trip.

So paying full boat and not playing ends up being cheaper.

The other thing is, I believe I normally play at a level that's right on the cusp of being able to get comps at the places I want to stay. It just so happens that that's a level I'm comfortable at. Enough to be fun, but not enough to make me sweat.

So to me, the choice feels like this:

If I pay and don't play and don't associate my account when I check in, the players club never knows I was there, and my future comps are totally unaffected, but I don't get tier credits.

If I take the comp and don't play, there's a high probability my comp availability goes down (I've seen this happen on a lower-than-normal play trip). Then I have to count on back-end coverage on the next trip, and I'm not at all confident about that.

It just feels like the trade-off of not earning tier credits (like maybe 25k MLife tier credits) vs. a comped no-play stay is worth it. The only way tier credits are useful to me is that at each level you get 10% more in ECs, which is only worth about $25 per trip for me.
