I love when people re-make songs. IF and only IF they do it right, some are absolute garbage and should have never been re-done. Here are some I really love, and IMO bury the originals. I have posted both:

Randy Newman, Mama Told Me Not To Come:

    Three Dog Night:

Randy has said the Three Dog Night versions better than his, and I agree, but then I heard this:

Tom Jones w/ Streophonics. It is the best of the 3:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a HUGE Eagles fan, HUGE, I saw them at MGM last November. I love their solo work as well, But Don Henleys version gets destroyed:

The Ataris Killed it, knocked it out of the park:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is pretty darn close. Both excellent:

    MJ, Smooth Criminal:

    Alien Ant Farm:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Simon and Garfunkel:

The Bangles. Susanna Hoffs. Best looking female rock star, ever. Don't even argue with me!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

People are going to disagree, but I love the drumming and guitar work in the re-make so much better.

    Golden Earring:

    White Lion:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

What happens when some suburban white dudes take an iconic, classic gangster rap song and do it on acoustic guitar? They make it even better, duh.

    Eazy- E:

Fun topic. I'll add "All Along the Watchtower," by Dylan, covered by Hendrix.

"It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day."

-Dylan, describing his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version.

Oh well, I guess I don't have clearance to post videos.

EDIT: Got the links to work, still don't have the fancy screenshots though.

There's one more step to take in the Hazy Shade of Winter progression.

You've got the Simon and the Garfunkle version.

And then the Bangles rock that thing up.

And then Body Jar turns it up to 11, grabs you by the throat and doesn't let the gas off.

Great topic, I love finding covers that are better than the original.

Nice Tom Jones cover there, yeah it's pretty solid. Sure nice to hear a Rhodes again...

I expect very little (if any) agreement on this one but absolutely love Metallica's cover and can't stand Seger's.

I totally forgot about Whiskey In The Jar. That was my ringtone for awhile.

My favorite 70's song, didn't think it could get done any better, I was wrong:

In kind of a strange, hodge podge of musicians, this really works, and for a country woman, Gretchen Wilson OWNS it. Nancy Wilson is still hot, BTW.

Can a single man take a rap song and just play drums to it and make it better? You be the judge, but Travis Barker shows why he is one of the best drummers on the planet:

I would add the following remakes that are better than the original:

    1. Nirvana's version of Bowie's the Man who Sold the World.

    2. Chilli Peppers' version Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground.

Travis Barker is a very competent drummer; to call him one of the best in the world is VASTLY overstating his skill level. Aside from that, how does this particular video showcase his drumming abilities? As a drummer myself, I can tell you that, on a scale of 1 to 10, the technical proficiency/difficulty level displayed here is about a 2. Though I haven't looked, I would guess that one could find dozens of videos online that showcase Barker's talents better than this particular clip.

Smashmouth's version of "I'm a believer" is better than the Monkee's version which is better than Neil Diamond's version.
