Need help with off strip

I'll be in Vegas for a week in November. I usually stay downtown and probably will this time. We've done the strip but never spent any time "off strip". Looking at renting a car and going to some of the areas we have never been like Rio, Silverton, South Point, maybe a Station casino, etc. I would like your input on where I should make sure to stop by and check out. Gambling, restaurants, buffets, and site-seeing are of interest. Mostly I play VP.

Everyone has their favorites. Mine include the Boyd/Coast off-Strip properties: Orleans, Gold Coast, Sam's Town, and Suncoast. Of those, Sam's has a very nice atrium and Suncoast has the nicest rooms. I also like Boulder Station, if for no other reason than they have Gorden Biersch Marzen in the casino. Have fun!

 

I KNOW this isn't going to help much but there is something I like about each and every off strip house from the smallest to the most opulent. I have stayed at some of the ones near he strip........Rio Orleans and really like them ( Orleans for the value play esp.) If you were narrowing it down to an area for an afternoon it might be more helpful ( Bpulder strip Summerlin area NLV for an example). I don't wanna say go to Sante Fe Station then go to Sams. That a bit of hike.

 

Two areas I would consider are as follows:

Summerlin:You can check out Red Rock Canyon via car and or hiking depending on your preference followed by a trip to Red Rock Resort, Sun Coast and or JW Marriott. All three offer great video poker and dining options. Red Rock has a nice food court, popular buffet, full pay VP and nice restaurants and is right near the RR Canyon park.

South Las Vegas Blvd: South Point and Silverton are close by and worth a visit while M Resort is several miles further south. All three cater to locals and offer great video poker options. M Resort has one of the best buffets in Vegas, and all three have decent dining options.

The various Boyd casinos are nice as well. A trip to Orleans/Gold Coast coupled with Rio and Palms is easy to knock out.

The Boulder Strip offers Sam's Town, Eastside Cannery and several other smaller casinos.

Many off strip casinos offer full pay video poker (9/6 JOB, 10/7DB, FPDW) and you can find these machines at the VPFree website.

 

I would recommend the M Resort. It's a bit of a hike going south on I15. We like the buffet, good video poker and fun Pai Gow tables.

Orleans might be the most appealing off-Strip casino in the affordable price range. It is close to the Strip, it has some playable VP, the casino is visually pleasing, food choices are decent, rooms are quaint in appearance and better than many in that price range, and you can get a good rate with minimal play. Orleans hosts minor league hockey if you like that.

Rio is in that same general area. It is also pleasing visually and has nice rooms with good beds but the gambling stinks.

South Point is nice but not distinctive. Rooms are pleasant. It has somewhat better VP than Orleans. It is fun around rodeo time, as is Orleans, but you're going in between the October PBR and the December NFR. South Point has other horse-related events at other times.

There is not much of particular sightseeing interest near the places you have mentioned.

 

I like orleans,silverton,southpoint.

sam`s town is neat with the 2 story casino and as others mentioned the atrium area is a nice break.

red rock resort is a few miles further but a beautiful place and you can do a drive thru red rock canyon.

If you are into it you can visit the pinball hall of fame also.

 

All very good suggestions so far.

Mine is going to be iffy since you are going in November and their might be snow, but I would say take a ride up to Mt Charleston Lodge. Have lunch sitting near the big 360 degree fireplace, enjoy the view and if it's not too cold, step outside and just enjoy the view even more.

Bring a jacket. They do have bartop VP also. It's a great ride up there.
