They spent $2.4 billion on the place and are frequently dead last or next-to-last in revenue in Atlantic City since opening a year ago. "Hurting" is an understatement.

Too far up the boardwalk, no smoking, very expensive rooms and a not a very friendly place to visit doesn't help.

I didn't stay long but I liked the view of the Boardwalk taking the escalator out to leave. The Marina properties (Borgata, Harrah's or Golden Nugget) and center Boardwalk (Caesar's, maybe Bally's though not sure about their rooms) would be my preferred options for a future AC trip.

They saw themselves as more of a resort rather than a casino. They didnt seem to encourage gamblers to come there. Sort of like how some of the Vegas casino's are seeing their properties as less and less a casino and look to other areas for revenue. Ive read their poor gambling rules and lack of emphasis on gaming, kept the gamblers from coming there. Would anyone go to AC for just a resort without gambling there? Nope. I was in AC last winter and had read that the gambling sucked at Revel so I never even went in there. Revel found the hard reality is that gambling cannot be de-emphasized. I hope the Vegas "resorts" discover that same thing.

This is the same problem that the Cosmopolitan in Vegas is having. These places are too expensive to survive on only non-gaming revenue. The casino is the MOST important income generator, not the LEAST!!!

Yeah, Cosmo isnt making money now. But once they arent the newest hip place on the strip, they are going to be in real trouble. A resort that de-emphasizes gambling has a better chance in Vegas than AC, but I still believe they are doomed using that model.

    +1.

Even though they don't like it, they have to built a bus area so that they can get some of the transient gamblers. If not, here comes another bankruptcy!

    MY idea for Revel

Instead of where they built ,I would have bought the property,if available that MGM passed on between Borgata and Harrahs . Would have poached people from both properties. Theres a boardwalk there already that you can walk between hotels. Also the Golden Nugget is a 15 min .walk from Harrahs.

What a terrible idea (for them as a business). All this is going to attract is either a) locals looking to fully take advantage of the system - generally the most unprofitable gamblers, or b) tourists that didn't read the fine print and are going to feel slighted by the misleading advertising.

Revel sucks. Trying to be something in Vegas but it is not going to work since the whole atmosphere and clientele are different. I find the Showboat next door to be light years ahead and better in terms of the whole experience. Only good thing about it was that the floor was once smoke free but not anymore.

Wow just saw this and its pretty crazy. I have to hand it to them for at least admitting they've made mistakes right at the beginning of that video. Big shift from the arrogance they showed for such a long time in the beginning when they were suffering. But like MangoPort said I think this promo will just bring in a lot of locals who will game the system and then go back to their normal casinos. Revel still needs to offer the right gaming environment and conditions.

I do like the idea of them matching freeplay offers from other casinos. I get like $200 most months from some of the CET casinos but they're split into vouchers for like $20 on 10 different days so they're kind of useless to me. I wonder if Revel will just match the entire $200 in one shot.

And it sounds like this loss rebate works for VP also. That makes it a no-brainer for a lot of the nearby locals who play VP.
