Referring to playing blackjack while tired, that man spoke the truth with such brilliance.

I wonder how that guy is doing up in Seattle.

hell, one time I had a 532 and got an A and hit again because I had been playing Bacc too long that night and I only counted 11 ...

I lost three large on a hand at Joliet Harrah's on Good Friday 1997 against a dealer full house a third of the way into a 10/A rich 6 deck shoe.

Dealer checks his A for blackjack and does not have it.

    Get a 2 on the first 8 (10) and double down, getting a 9 for 19.
    Get a 3 on the second 8 (11) and double down, getting a 7 for 18.

On my second hand, I have 9/2 and get another 9 with my third double down for 20.

Dealer flips a second A underneath, and then draws a third. I'm liking my chances for a dealer bust after he draws a 9 for 12. Lots of tens in the shoe and I haven't seen one yet. Dealer draws the next card and had a concerned look. He said he was sorry as he laid down the ugliest 9 of clubs I have ever seen. The case nine results in a dealer full house, AAA99, and after dropping some more chasing loses (my friend also got creamed that day) at Balmoral Park, I vowed (and have kept my vow) to never, ever gamble on Good Friday again.

Rex has a Seattle (Seattle Rex) blog, but it's not as active. He is a good writer and I miss his Vegas perspective.

I live in Seattle, so I was kind of interested in what he'd do once he moved this direction. I followed his migration through Olympia for a while up to Seattle, where he is now.

He went through a few phases of change here and there. More than a few self indignant mega rants, usually fairly justified, though often a bit hypocritical, in my opinion. As of very recently he seems to possibly have come a bit full circle on the whole hipster-hater side; not that he seems to like them any more than he did before, but he seems to be less inclined to react to them as though they're affront to him, personally. He still hates people that work in Seattle, but don't live within the city, rants about them are commonplace.

Although we've been at the same events at the same time, I haven't run in to him; not that I'd know it if I did (though I might notice a 6'4" white guy in flannel with an Asian family in tow, assuming he's not solo.)

I still follow his blog. It used to be a good source for non-mainstream local commentary and news, though now it's more just rants, which can be entertaining on their own.

I know I'm bringing up an old thread, but I felt it important to mention that he goes through spurts of activity on his blog; certainly not dead.

^^thanks for the update. Glad to hear he's still blogging. I haven't checked his forums in a while though because they mostly degenerated into 2 or 3 guys arguing about going pro with video poker.. or something.

That was a fun trip when a bunch of us took limo's down to the Gold Spike! We sort of overwhelmed the place. I had forgotten about this blog entry though and I had a couple of comments at the bottom!

Although I used to read his blog frequently, I felt it was no big loss when he left, as he seemed to turn into quite the hater. I would guess more than half his posts in the last year were angry gripes, past the point of rants. I will admit it was good while it lasted.

On another note, as I was driving to LaConnor, WA I passed through a little (and I mean little) town of Rexville.

Used to read him frequently when he lived in Vegas and did follow for a while when he moved to Seattle but basically lost interest. His pics and videos were great. Too bad he soured so much on Vegas, but I guess the town can do that to you. Still don't know what he actually does for a living.

Oh, I almost forgot. His blog got pretty popular for a while when he sued Apple and won. Apparently that doesn't happen often.

definitely miss Rex's Vegas coverage. very cool guy. I certainly enjoy his rants most of all. I think he wrote copy for west coast news organization at one point. Not sure why I think that, but its somewhere in my memory.

I remember that trip well. What a fun time. Miss hanging out with group. I still remember mgm vip asking me more than once if we were sure that was where we wanted to go.
