Apparently it can happen at any age.
Just goes to show, better make the best of what you can now because you never know.

I never watched the Sopranos (no cable), but I'll always remember his uncut scene with Patricia Arquette in True Romance.

wow that is pretty sad especially since he just had a baby not too long back

I was not into the show when it was first out and everyone was really hyping it and talking all about it because I just don't pay for things like HBO any longer

then when it came on A&E a few years later I was hooked......that show was incredible and I have since watched it again throughout online

I always hoped for, but never expected another few seasons, but now I wonder of they could not actually be prompted to make some new seasons......it would be terrible without him, but it would open up a ton of story lines

now I feel bad for talking about a real person in terms of his TV character

RIP and prayers for his family especially his wife and young child

I got like half a dozen texts over the last half hour about this. That's really young. I'm a huge Sopranos fan as are most people I grew up with. Those were the neighborhoods we grew up in and so much was shot on location. I just started rewatching from season 5 last week after taking a break from it for a while cuz I've seen each episode so many times.

I saw him in 'God of Carnage' on Broadway. He was hysterical.

    RIP

Damn that sucks, I'm a die hard Sopranos fan and spent hundreds of hours watching that show.

It's a shame, he was a relatively young guy. I feel really bad for his child growing up without a father, that really sucks.

I'm right in the middle of season 5, going to be weird to finish the series now.

There's some pretty big fellows on that show, just looked on IMDB and everyone else is still alive, even the old man.

Yeah, but when you get to the last season you can see that Gandolfini is really out of shape: there are times where he is gasping for breath and wheezing pretty good and through almost the whole season he has that "throat whistle" thing going when he is breathing every time he walks more than 5 feet in a scene.

And thats the shape he was in when he was the lead actor and big star on what was easily the hottest show on cable TV... if that was the shape he kept himself in then you can maybe guess that with just doing a few character roles the last few years he probably just let everything go.

    A true "Jersey Guy"

Born and bred ,went to Rutgers, apparently a quiet, gentle ,friendly man.
I've always said that guys seem to have these sudden unexpected heart attacks between 45-55 years of age and if you make it thru this age group you have a good chance to live a long life.
This is based solely on my friends and family dying and probably no real basis in medical fact, but it's my opinion.
    RIP Jimmy

There is medical research to prove what you just said.
If you pass that age -- chances are better to not
    have a heart attack.
    .
    And this news -
    Dying at age 51.
is that EXACT REASON I took off work yesterday.
I played golf very early + quickly -
Then, took my wife + 18 mos old son to my 90 yr. old
father's house where we spent the afternoon.
My sister was there w/ her daughter ( from AZ ) and
my brother's son -- we took video of my son with all
    his relatives.
I had a wonderful day !
Because......LIFE IS TOO DAMN SHORT !
